Budding splits the colony
Argentine ants and a number of house ants carry multiple queens. Spray them with a repellent and a queen plus a few hundred workers simply moves out and starts again nearby.

We treat ants right across 2558. Eagle Vale is roughly 41.2 km south-west of the city, which puts it well inside the Macarthur run our technicians work. We travel out to Eagle Vale on planned runs through the Macarthur, so booking a day ahead gets you the best slot.
Most weeks we are somewhere between Leumeah station and Brady Park in Eagle Vale, and Eschol Park Sports Complex is close enough to be on the same run.
We work under the Campbelltown and Camden area here, and Eschol Park, Claymore and Kearns are all on the same route, which matters when ant problems are moving between adjoining properties. Newer estate housing sits close together on small blocks, so what happens next door matters. We check the boundary and the fence line, not just the house.
What we see in Eagle Vale is recently built homes where the activity started at the boundary. Describing it accurately when you book saves a second visit.
We also work the streets near Macarthur Grange Country Club and across toward Eagle Vale Marketplace - the whole of 2558 is covered.
Some species excavate soft, damp timber rather than eat it. Finding them in a Eagle Vale window frame or bathroom wall usually means moisture has been getting into that timber for a while.
A colony's preference also shifts with the season. Spring brood-rearing wants protein; later in summer the same Eagle Vale colony wants sugars.
The reason the trail returns to the same spot in a Eagle Vale kitchen is that it is marked chemically. Wiping it buys hours. Treating the colony that maintains it is the only thing that ends it.
Each of these behaves differently, so the bait and the placement change too. Two photos come from our own jobs.

Small and shiny black. It is the usual kitchen ant here, trailing along skirting boards, window frames and power cables from nests in wall voids, roof spaces and the garden edge, and it takes sweet bait easily.

Minute brown ants with larger-headed soldiers among them. Fine sand in paving joints, at slab edges and in grout is the tell. Because a colony holds many nests, oil-based granular baits are the right approach.

Fast-moving, small and dull brown, in thick trails. Its nests are multi-queen and interconnected with neighbouring nests, so it spreads across properties - and repellent sprays accelerate exactly that.

These are the large night-active ants that nest in soil, hollow trees and timber that has softened with damp. Structural damage is uncommon in Australia, but a wall nest points to a leak worth chasing.

An Elite job photo showing a nest in masonry. Weep holes and cracked mortar lead into the wall cavity - the spot black house ants most often choose.

Gel bait on a working trail, from one of our jobs. Ants feed and carry it to the nest, so wiping or spraying the trail afterwards undoes the treatment.
Where ants appear usually tells us where the nest is and which species we are dealing with.
Ants entering from the external wall point to a cavity or garden-edge nest. Finding that entry is the first step.
That fine sandy soil appearing between pavers, along the driveway and at slab joints is the classic coastal brown ant sign - they are nesting below.
A nest in a power point or appliance is about warmth. Spraying into electrical fittings is dangerous - tell us and we will treat it the right way.
Those spring and summer swarms of winged ants are mating flights. If they are coming out inside the house, there may be a mature colony in the building.
When trails appear around the shower, vanity or toilet, moisture is the reason - often a slow leak the colony is drinking from.
Bull and jumper ants live in lawn and garden-bed nests. The sting hurts, and for some people it brings on a serious allergic reaction.

The difference matters. Retail sprays are repellent - ants sense them and avoid the treated area. Non-repellent products cannot be detected, so foragers cross them, pick up the active and take it back to the nest.
A colony's appetite shifts between sugar and protein with the brood cycle. Bait only works when it matches, which is why we test preferences on site.
It takes days for bait to move through a colony. Spraying the trail the day after our visit kills the very ants delivering it.
Tracing first, then baits and non-repellent products that do the work after we leave.
We identify the ant and follow trails back to entry points and nests in walls, paving, garden edges and roof spaces.
A test with small amounts of each bait type - sweet, protein, oil-based - tells us what the colony wants at this point in its cycle.
Inside, gel bait follows the trails: window frames, skirting, the routes they already use, always placed where children and pets cannot get to it.
The perimeter gets a non-repellent product - foundation, weep holes, door frames, paths - which intercepts ants before they are inside.
Granular bait or direct treatment for coastal brown ant nests under pavers and in lawn edges.
A written summary, clear advice on what not to spray afterwards, and a 6-month warranty on the general treatment.
The same bait does not suit every ant. This is how we choose.
| Species | Usually feeding on | Treatment approach | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black house ant | Honeydew and sugary liquids, switching to protein when there is brood | Sweet gel on active trails and a non-repellent perimeter at frames and weep holes | Washing the trail down each day, which only relocates the foraging route |
| Coastal brown ant | Oils and protein rather than sugars | Granular bait with an oil base, spread on paving and at the lawn edge | Boiling water down one hole - there are dozens of other nests |
| Argentine ant | Sugars primarily, sometimes protein | Slow-acting baits combined with non-repellent treatment across the boundary | A repellent barrier, which splits nests that hold many queens |
| Sugar ants (Camponotus) | Insects and sweet foods, taken mainly at night | A night inspection of the trails, bait near the nest, and moisture in timber repaired | Daytime-only treatment, which misses them entirely |
| Bull ants and jumper ants | Nectar and insects, outdoors | Treating the nest directly where it sits in lawn or garden bed | Digging the nest out by hand, which is how people get stung |
| Time of year | What is happening | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Early spring (Sept to Oct) | Colonies become active and start on brood, which shifts them onto protein | Early indoor trails, and sand piles returning to the paving |
| Late spring to summer (Nov to Feb) | Foraging peaks, and warm humid spells trigger mating flights | Swarms of winged ants, and heavy trails following storms or heatwaves |
| Autumn (Mar to May) | Colonies are at full size and stock up before cooler weather | Trails into pantries and pet food |
| Winter (Jun to Aug) | Outdoor activity slows, but nests in heated walls keep going | Ants around heaters, hot water units and kitchens |
Most failed ant treatments come down to what happens in the week after.
If your Eagle Vale paving keeps developing little sand volcanoes, sweeping them away is treating the spoil rather than the nest. The colony is in the bedding sand under the slab.
Ants in the cavity of a Eagle Vale house will appear at power points, architraves and ceiling roses - anywhere the cavity opens into the room.
Heavy rain floods shallow nests, and the colony moves to the nearest dry cavity - which is usually a wall, a subfloor or under a slab. A sudden indoor trail in Eagle Vale after a storm is almost always this.
The trail gets traced to its source. Spraying where you saw ants achieves very little.
Sweet, protein or oil-based baits chosen for the ant and the season.
Non-repellent products that foragers carry home, instead of sprays that scatter the colony.
If ants return within 6 months of a general treatment, we return at no charge.

Get a Free QuoteAnt treatment starts from $89. We quote on the property rather than the postcode, so a unit in Eagle Vale and a large house are priced differently. The figure is fixed before any work starts. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
We cover it on scheduled runs, so a day's notice gets you the best slot. Eagle Vale is about 41.2 km south-west of the CBD in the Macarthur, and we give you a firm arrival time rather than an all-day window.
The ground here was cleared and rebuilt recently, which displaced whatever lived in it, and the blocks are close enough that ants move between them along the fence lines.
Estate housing on small lots, which means the outside of the building matters as much as the inside.
We do all of those. A good share of the Eagle Vale jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
It is, provided the instructions are followed. We will tell you what to keep clear of and for how long before we leave. Let us know about children, pets or fish tanks when you book.
In most cases you can stay. Where an area does need to be left clear it is for a couple of hours at most, and we say so before we start.
Allow one to two hours for a typical Eagle Vale property. Larger homes, or ones where the problem has spread, take longer and we will say so when we quote.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. So if they turn up again within the warranty, ring us and we will attend.
