You may see cockroaches out in daylight, moving slowly or dying on the floor. This is the bait and growth regulator starting to work. Sweep them up and keep going.
Cockroach treatment for Sydney kitchens, bathrooms, units and food businesses, built around how each species breeds, from $89 with a 6-month warranty.
Real, verified feedback from people we've helped — straight from Google.
Two very different cockroach problems turn up in Sydney. The first is the small German cockroach living inside the kitchen: behind the dishwasher, in cupboard hinges and inside the fridge motor housing. The second is the big American or Australian cockroach that walks in from the drain, the subfloor or the garden at night. They need different treatments, and using the wrong one is the main reason people keep seeing cockroaches after spraying.
German cockroaches are the hard ones. A female carries her egg case with her until a day or two before the young hatch, so surface sprays kill adults while the next generation is protected. We use professional gel baits the cockroaches eat and share, plus an insect growth regulator that stops young cockroaches becoming breeding adults, applied into the cracks where they actually live.
For the larger species we work outside and underneath: sewer inspection pits, floor wastes, subfloors, roof voids and weep holes. Every general cockroach treatment is priced before we start and backed by a 6-month warranty.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, roughly 12 to 15 mm long. It lives indoors near warmth, food and water, breeds year-round and is the species behind most kitchen and restaurant infestations in Sydney.

Large and reddish-brown, up to about 4 cm. It lives in sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps and subfloors, and comes up through floor wastes or dry drain traps on warm, humid nights.

Similar in size to the American cockroach but with pale yellow edges near the head and along the wings. Despite the name it is an introduced species, found in gardens, leaf litter, roof voids and subfloors.

A small species with pale bands across the body that prefers warm, dry spots higher up, such as behind picture frames, inside electrical appliances and in bedroom furniture. It is less common than the German cockroach but easily mistaken for it.

Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches in the kitchen during the day, plus pepper-like droppings in cupboard corners | German cockroach, usually a heavy infestation | Hinges, dishwasher and fridge cavities, behind the kickboards, inside appliances | Gel bait rotation, growth regulator and crack-and-crevice treatment inside |
| One or two large cockroaches at night near the laundry, bathroom or floor waste | American cockroach | Sewer and stormwater pits, subfloor, dry floor-waste traps | Drain and pit treatment, subfloor, sealing gaps around pipes |
| Large cockroaches with yellow edging, seen in the garage or coming in from the garden | Australian cockroach | Mulch, leaf litter, woodpiles, roof void | External perimeter, roof void dusting, garden harbourage |
| Small cockroaches in bedrooms, in the TV unit or behind frames, away from the kitchen | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm, dry furniture and electrical appliances | Targeted baiting in living and sleeping areas |
| Cockroaches in a unit that keep returning weeks after your own treatment | German cockroach moving between units | Shared service risers, bin rooms and wall cavities | A coordinated building treatment. See strata pest control |

A German cockroach egg case holds around 30 eggs, and the female carries it until shortly before hatching. Kill the adults with a surface spray and the next batch still emerges.
Each female can produce several egg cases in her life, and the young mature in weeks in a warm kitchen. A few cockroaches seen in daylight usually means many more hidden.
Bombs and supermarket sprays push cockroaches deeper into wall voids and into the unit next door, and can contaminate bait so they avoid it.
Cockroach droppings, saliva and cast skins are recognised triggers for allergies and asthma, so a lingering infestation affects the air in your home, not just the benches.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
We confirm the species and use a torch and inspection mirror to find harbourage: hinges, appliance cavities, kickboards, floor wastes and service penetrations.
Where grease or food build-up is feeding the colony, we show you what to clean first. Bait works best when it is the easiest food available.
Small dots of professional gel bait go into the cracks cockroaches travel through. They eat it, return to hiding and pass it on to others.
An insect growth regulator stops nymphs becoming breeding adults, and dust goes into wall voids and appliance cavities we cannot bait directly.
For American and Australian cockroaches we treat pits, floor wastes, the subfloor, roof void and the external perimeter.
You get a written summary. If activity is still heavy after two weeks or returns within 6 months, we come back and re-treat free.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Kills the cockroach you can see | Does not reach egg cases or voids, and repels others deeper into walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers open surfaces in a room | Misses harbourage, leaves residue on benches, and can scatter the colony |
| Retail bait stations | Useful for a light problem | Low bait volume, and easily out-competed by crumbs and grease |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Eaten and shared in the hiding places; formulations can be rotated if cockroaches avoid one | Needs a clean kitchen and time to work, usually days to a couple of weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops nymphs maturing into breeding adults, which breaks the egg-case cycle | Works slowly, so it is always paired with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
You may see cockroaches out in daylight, moving slowly or dying on the floor. This is the bait and growth regulator starting to work. Sweep them up and keep going.
Activity should fall steadily. Leave bait spots in hinges and cracks alone, and avoid spraying your own insecticide over them, which can make cockroaches refuse the bait.
Tell your agent or building manager if activity continues, as cockroaches often travel between lots. Our apartment pest control page explains building-wide options.
If you still see steady activity after two weeks, or cockroaches return within 6 months of a general treatment, call 1300 313 373 for a warranty re-treatment.
Sydney's humid summers suit German cockroaches, but heated kitchens keep them breeding right through winter. The worst infestations we see are in older apartment blocks with shared risers and garbage chutes, in terraces that share wall cavities, and in commercial kitchens where equipment is rarely moved. American cockroaches are most noticeable on warm, muggy nights after rain, when they come up from drains and stormwater pits.
For businesses, see our restaurant and cafe pest control and commercial programs. If cockroaches are one of several pests in your home, a residential pest treatment covers ants and spiders in the same visit.

Get a Free QuoteCockroach treatment starts from $89. The fixed price depends on the size of the home, how many rooms are affected, whether we need to treat drains, subfloor or roof void, and how established a German cockroach infestation is. You get the price before any work starts, and a general treatment includes a 6-month warranty.
For the first days to two weeks this is expected. Baits and growth regulators affect cockroaches over time, and treated insects often come out into the open before they die. Leave the bait spots alone and keep cleaning normally. If activity is still heavy after two weeks, call us under your warranty.
Usually because the egg cases survived, the treatment only reached surfaces, or cockroaches are coming from a neighbouring unit. The female carries the egg case until just before hatching, so a program needs bait plus a growth regulator. In apartments, a building-wide treatment is often the lasting fix.
Professional gel baits are applied in very small amounts inside hinges, cracks and appliance cavities where children and pets cannot reach. We use APVMA-registered products applied to label. Tell us about toddlers, birds, reptiles or fish tanks so we can adjust placement.
They rarely fix a German cockroach problem. Foggers settle on open surfaces, but cockroaches and their egg cases are deep in cracks and voids. The repellent effect can also drive them into walls or next door. Targeted baiting usually works better and uses far less product.
Most homes and units take 30 to 60 minutes. Heavily infested kitchens, homes needing subfloor or roof void work, and commercial kitchens take longer. You can usually stay nearby, and we tell you when treated areas are ready to use.
Large cockroaches that appear at night near a shower, laundry tub or floor waste are usually American cockroaches from the sewer or stormwater system. A dry floor-waste trap lets them walk straight in. Run water in rarely used drains, and we treat pits and the subfloor.
Clearing under the sink and the cupboards with the most activity helps a lot. You do not need to empty every cupboard for a gel bait treatment, but put food, cutlery and dishes away and wipe up grease so the bait is the most attractive thing on offer.
Yes. Commercial kitchens need regular, documented servicing rather than a one-off spray. We treat before opening or after close and provide service records for your food safety file, which auditors and council officers ask to see. See our restaurant and commercial pest control programs for details.
If cockroaches covered by your general treatment return within 6 months, we come back and re-treat at no charge. Warranty conditions, such as following the preparation and hygiene advice, are confirmed in writing on your service summary, so you know exactly what is covered.
