Where Davidson sits, who covers it and what it costs.
We treat cockroaches right across 2085. Davidson is roughly 14.6 km north of the city, which puts it well inside the Upper North Shore run our technicians work. We run Davidson on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
Around Davidson we work the pockets near Wayne Schimanski Reserve, Old She-Oak Reserve and Glenrose Village Shopping Centre most often, so the van is rarely far away when a job comes in.
Davidson is in the Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby area, and we cover East Killara, St Ives and Forestville on the same runs - handy if you own more than one property or your cockroach problem has come from next door. Backing onto bush means re-entry is the issue, so proofing and the perimeter do the real work here.
Around Davidson the pattern is fairly consistent: homes on sloping blocks with a sub-floor and bush on the boundary. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
Where Davidson housing shares walls and roof voids - semis, terraces, unit blocks - the population is usually shared too. We say so up front rather than treating one flat and letting you discover it a month later.
If cockroaches keep appearing in a Davidson bathroom rather than the kitchen, the drain is the first thing we check. They travel the pipework between units and come up wherever the seal has dried out.
The allergen is the part people underestimate. Cockroach droppings and shed skins are a recognised asthma trigger, and in a Davidson unit with an established population the load builds up in soft furnishings.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, roughly 12 to 15 mm long. It lives indoors near warmth, food and moisture, and it is the species that breeds fastest inside a kitchen.

The largest one we deal with, around 4 cm and reddish-brown. Pits, sewers, grease traps and subfloors are where it breeds; the kitchen is somewhere it passes through at night.

Close to the American cockroach in size, with yellow edging near the head and down the wings. It belongs outdoors in gardens, mulch and subfloor areas, and enters the house rather than breeding in it.

A small banded cockroach that favours warmth and dryness rather than moisture. Look for it high up: behind frames, inside electrical enclosures and in cupboards well away from the sink.

One of our Sydney inspections, showing German cockroach activity. The harbourage itself tells the story: droppings, cast skins and egg cases give us both the species and the scale.

From an Elite commercial job: harbourage found inside kitchen equipment. The motor housing, the door seal and the hollow leg hold warmth after close and almost never get cleaned out.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Little ones out on the bench while the lights are on, with gritty black specks in cupboard corners | German cockroach - daytime activity means a large population | Cupboard hinges, the warm cavities behind the dishwasher and fridge, under kickboards, inside appliance housings | Rotated gel baits, an insect growth regulator, and product worked into cracks and crevices |
| A single big one after dark by the laundry tub, the bathroom or a floor drain | American cockroach | Stormwater and sewer pits, the space under the floor, floor wastes that have dried out | Treating the pits and drains, the subfloor, and sealing the gaps where pipes pass through |
| Big yellow-margined cockroaches that seem to come from the garden rather than the kitchen | Australian cockroach | Garden mulch, leaf litter and woodpiles, plus the roof cavity | Treating outside: the perimeter, the roof void, and the harbourage in the beds themselves |
| Small cockroaches in bedrooms, in the TV unit or behind frames, away from the kitchen | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm, dry furniture and electrical appliances | Targeted baiting in living and sleeping areas |
| A flat that clears for a fortnight and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach moving through the building | Shared risers, the bin room, and cavities running between walls | A coordinated treatment across the block. See strata pest control |

A licensed Sydney technician will talk it through with you and give you a fixed quote within half an hour.
Roughly 30 eggs sit in a single case, and the female keeps it with her until it is nearly ready to hatch. Nothing you spray on a surface touches it.
One female produces several egg cases, and in a warm kitchen the young reach maturity within weeks. That is how a handful becomes a serious problem in a short time.
Supermarket sprays and bombs repel. The colony moves further into the cavity, or next door, and your benchtops end up with residue on them.
Cast skins, droppings and saliva are recognised asthma and allergy triggers, which makes a long-running infestation a health issue rather than just an annoyance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
First we establish which cockroach it is, then map where it lives - torch and mirror into hinges, motor cavities, behind kickboards and into wall voids. Everything after this depends on that map.
Where grease or food build-up is feeding the colony, we show you what to clean first. Bait works far better when it is the most attractive food in the room.
Small dots of professional gel bait go into the cracks cockroaches travel through. They eat, return to harbourage and the effect passes through the population.
An insect growth regulator stops nymphs becoming breeding adults, and dust goes into wall voids and cavities where gel cannot reach.
For American and Australian cockroaches we treat pits, floor wastes, the subfloor and roof void, because those species live outside the kitchen and travel in.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Kills the cockroach you can see | Does not reach egg cases or voids, and repels others deeper into walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Treats the exposed surfaces of a room in one go | Nothing reaches the hiding places, residue settles on food surfaces, and the colony scatters |
| Retail bait stations | Can help if you have only seen a few | The bait volume is small, and competing food such as grease wins out |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Carried home and shared where they shelter; if they start refusing one gel we rotate to another | Requires a clean kitchen and patience - days to a couple of weeks, not overnight |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops the young ever reaching breeding age, which ends the egg-case cycle | Acts slowly by design, so bait always goes in with it |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
You may see cockroaches out in daylight, moving slowly or dying on the floor. This is the bait and growth regulator starting to work. Sweep them up and keep going.
Expect activity to taper off. The bait dots in hinges and cracks need to stay put, and nothing should be sprayed over them - that is what makes cockroaches avoid bait.
Keep the agent or building manager informed if it does not settle; cockroaches travel between flats. Our apartment pest control page covers the options for a whole block.
Call 1300 313 373 if activity is still steady after a fortnight, or if they come back within the 6 months a general treatment covers. The re-treatment is under warranty.
From Old She-Oak Reserve through to the East Killara side of Davidson, it is all one service area for us - same price, same response time.
For a Davidson cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
Sydney does not give cockroaches an off-season. Around Davidson the warm, humid stretch from October through March drives breeding hardest, but a heated Upper North Shore home keeps a kitchen population going through winter without pause.
German cockroaches get baits and growth regulators, and drain species get pit and subfloor work. The species decides the treatment.
We bait into cracks and hinges instead of spraying benchtops, because that is where food is prepared.
One flat or a whole commercial kitchen - food premises are done outside trading hours.
Six months on a general treatment - if they come back inside it, so do we, at no charge.
