OVERVIEW

Expert Rat Control You Can Trust

Rats are the pest most likely to cause real structural damage to a Sydney home. They gnaw electrical cable in roof voids, chew through water lines, foul insulation and build populations fast in the sheltered roofline of a terrace, semi or apartment block.

Rat control is different from mouse control in almost every practical respect - the bait placements, the station sizes, the entry gaps that matter and the level of caution the animal shows. We treat rats as rats, which is why the results hold rather than fading after a fortnight.

SPECIES WE TREAT

What We Treat

Our licensed technicians are trained across every variety you're likely to encounter in Sydney.

Roof Rat

Roof Rat

The black rat, and by a wide margin the most common in Sydney. An outstanding climber that lives in roof voids, wall cavities and trees.

Norway Rat

Norway Rat

The larger brown or sewer rat. It burrows rather than climbs, favouring sub-floors, drains, compost heaps and the ground beneath decking.

Bush Rat

Bush Rat

A protected native species found in bushland-fringe suburbs. Correct identification matters, because it must not be treated as a pest rat.

Swamp Rat

Swamp Rat

Another native, associated with wetland margins and dense ground cover, and again a species that needs identifying rather than baiting.

Juvenile Rats

Juvenile Rats

Frequently mistaken for mice, which leads to the wrong bait and station sizes being used and the treatment quietly failing.

Commensal Rat Colonies

Commensal Rat Colonies

Established populations moving between neighbouring properties, shared walls and strata buildings, which need a coordinated approach.

SIGNS OF AN INFESTATION

Know the Warning Signs

Spotting the problem early makes treatment faster, easier and far less costly.

Night Noise in the Ceiling

Heavy scurrying, dragging and thumping overhead after dark - noticeably louder and slower than the light skittering of mice.

Large Capsule Droppings

Dark droppings around 12 to 18mm long with blunt or pointed ends, found along beams, in cupboards and beside entry points.

Gnaw Marks on Cable and Timber

Chewed electrical cable, water pipe, roof timber and stored goods, with gnaw marks noticeably coarser than mouse damage.

Greasy Rub Marks

Dark smears along beams, pipes, wall edges and entry holes where rats travel the same route repeatedly.

Burrows and Runways

Holes around 60 to 90mm across near foundations, decking, compost or sheds, with worn tracks in soil or grass.

Disturbed Insulation

Flattened runs, tunnelling and nesting hollows in ceiling insulation, often with shredded material dragged in from elsewhere.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why Rat Control Can't Wait

01

Genuine Fire Risk

Rats gnaw cable insulation constantly to wear their incisors down, and rodent damage is a recognised cause of house fires.

02

Serious Disease Risk

Rats carry leptospirosis, salmonella and other pathogens in urine and droppings that contaminate roof spaces, insulation and stored food.

03

Structural and Water Damage

Chewed pipework and flexible hose causes leaks that go undetected inside a ceiling until the damage is expensive.

04

Rapid Colony Growth

A pair of rats can produce several litters a year, so a small roof void population becomes an entrenched colony within a season.

How much does rat control cost?

Rat treatments start from $89 with a fixed quote confirmed before work begins. The price depends on the size of the property, how many bait stations and traps are required, and whether entry-point proofing is included. Proofing is quoted separately after inspection because it depends entirely on what we find - a couple of gaps is a small job, a whole roofline is not.

What is the difference between rat and mouse control?

More than most people expect. Rats are larger, warier and need bigger tamper-resistant stations, different bait formulations and placements along their established runways. Rats also show bait shyness, meaning they sample cautiously before committing, so stations need to stay undisturbed for longer. Mice are curious and explore widely, so they need many small placements instead.

Will you find how they are getting in?

Yes. Every rat job includes an entry-point inspection covering the roofline, eaves, weep holes, vents, sub-floor, service penetrations and overhanging branches. A rat only needs a gap around 20mm. We give you a written list of the entry points we find, and we can carry out the proofing work or you can pass the list to your builder.

Is baiting safe with pets and children in the house?

Yes, when it is done properly. All bait goes into locked, tamper-resistant stations secured in place, positioned in roof voids, sub-floors and concealed runways rather than anywhere accessible. Your technician records where every station is and returns to check and remove them. We also discuss trapping as an alternative where you would prefer no bait at all.

What about a dead rat smell in the wall?

It is the honest downside of any baiting program, and we will tell you that upfront. Where the risk matters - a food business, a bedroom wall, a client-facing office - we prioritise trapping and proofing over bait so the animal can be removed rather than dying in a cavity. Where odour does occur it typically settles within one to two weeks.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes. Rat treatments carry our 6-month warranty. If covered activity returns inside that period we come back and re-treat at no charge and no call-out fee. Warranty cover assumes recommended entry-point proofing has been carried out, because an open roofline simply lets the next population walk straight back in.
