We treat cockroaches right across 2232. Kirrawee is roughly 22.5 km south-west of the city, which puts it well inside the Sutherland Shire run our technicians work. We run Kirrawee on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
If you are near Ninth Avenue Reserve, Kareela Golf Course or Kirrawee station, that is ground we cover constantly - it is the busiest part of Kirrawee for us.
The suburb sits in the Sutherland Shire area. Sutherland, Gymea and Gymea Bay are all covered on the same day, so a problem that has spread across a boundary can be handled in one visit. Bush edges keep re-supplying the problem, which is why we treat the boundary rather than only the interior.
What we see in Kirrawee is houses backing onto a reserve, where the pressure is constant from outside. Describing it accurately when you book saves a second visit.
We also work the streets near Pollard Park and across toward Sutherland Leisure Center - the whole of 2232 is covered.
You get a confirmed time, not a window. We plan the 2232 run the day before, and if Sutherland or Gymea is on the same round there is often an earlier slot going.
Heat is an accelerator. Through a Kirrawee summer the cycle from egg case to breeding adult runs weeks faster than it does in July, which is why a small problem noticed in spring is worth dealing with before Christmas.
In older Kirrawee buildings a cockroach population can live entirely in the drain line and come up at night. Treating the kitchen and ignoring the pipework means you are treating the visitors, not the residents.
Cockroach numbers do not climb steadily, they jump. A single egg case hatching behind a Kirrawee dishwasher puts forty juveniles into the room at once, and those reach breeding age in about ten weeks. Treating only what is visible resets nothing.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

The small indoor one - about 12 to 15 mm, light brown, with a pair of dark bands just behind the head. It stays close to warmth and water, which is why kitchens and bathrooms are where it establishes.

Up to roughly 4 cm long and reddish-brown. You find it in sewers, pits, grease traps and under the floor, and it travels up through drains after dark rather than nesting indoors.

Similar in size to the American cockroach, told apart by the yellow margins at the head and wing edges. An outdoor species - gardens, mulch, the subfloor - that makes its way in.

A small species with pale bands across the body that prefers warm, dry spots higher up, such as behind picture frames, in electrical housings and inside cupboards away from water.

Photo from an Elite job: German cockroach activity found during a Sydney inspection. Droppings, cast skins and egg cases in the harbourage tell us the species and how established it is.

From an Elite commercial job: harbourage found inside kitchen equipment. The motor housing, the door seal and the hollow leg hold warmth after close and almost never get cleaned out.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daytime sightings near the sink, plus specks of droppings along the joins in cupboards | German cockroach - the one species that lives and breeds indoors | Hinges and drawer runners, the gap behind fridge and dishwasher, behind kickboards, inside motor housings | A bait rotation paired with a growth regulator, placed into cracks rather than sprayed about |
| A single big one after dark by the laundry tub, the bathroom or a floor drain | American cockroach | Stormwater and sewer pits, the space under the floor, floor wastes that have dried out | Treating the pits and drains, the subfloor, and sealing the gaps where pipes pass through |
| Sizeable cockroaches with pale edging that appear in the garage or at a back door | Australian cockroach | Leaf litter and mulch, stacked timber, and the roof cavity | Treating the perimeter, dusting the roof void, and reducing harbourage in the garden |
| Small cockroaches turning up in bedrooms and living rooms, never around the sink | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry furniture, and the inside of electrical appliances | Bait placed through the living and sleeping areas where they actually are |
| An apartment where they come back a few weeks after you treated it yourself | German cockroach travelling between lots | The service risers, the bin room and the wall cavities the units share | Treating the building as one job. See strata pest control |

One call to a licensed Sydney technician gets you honest advice and a fixed quote within 30 minutes.
The egg case - around 30 eggs, carried by the female until just before hatching - is shielded from anything applied to a surface. That is why the population reappears after a DIY attempt.
Multiply several egg cases per female by nymphs that mature in a few warm weeks and you have the reason a minor sighting turns into an infestation.
A repellent product scatters rather than clears - deeper into the wall void, through to the unit next door - and leaves residue where food is prepared.
Cockroach droppings, saliva and cast skins are recognised triggers for allergies and asthma, so a lingering infestation is a health issue as well as a nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
We confirm the species and use a torch and inspection mirror to find harbourage: hinges, appliance housings, kickboards and wall voids. The treatment follows what we find, not a standard routine.
Where grease or food build-up is feeding the colony, we show you what to clean first. Bait works far better when it is the most attractive food in the room.
We place gel in precise dots along their travel routes rather than spraying. They feed, return to the harbourage, and the effect spreads through the population by contact and feeding.
Two products with different jobs: the growth regulator stops nymphs maturing, and dust carries the treatment into voids and cavities beyond the reach of gel.
With American and Australian cockroaches the work is outside the kitchen: the pits, the floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void, because that is where they breed.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Works on a cockroach you can actually see | Egg cases and harbourage are untouched, and it repels the others further in |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers a whole room's open surfaces at once | Harbourage is untouched, benches end up with residue, and the population spreads out |
| Retail bait stations | Worth using when numbers are genuinely low | There is very little bait in them, and crumbs or grease will beat them every time |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Eaten and shared in the hiding places; formulations can be rotated if cockroaches avoid one | Needs a clean kitchen and time to work, usually days to a couple of weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Keeps nymphs from becoming breeding adults, so the egg-case cycle stops | It acts gradually, which is why it is always paired with a bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.

You should see a steady decline. Leave the gel where we put it in hinges and cracks, and keep your own insecticide away from it, or they will refuse to feed.
Where activity continues, raise it with your agent or strata manager, because they cross between lots. See apartment pest control for how a building-wide treatment runs.
Steady activity at the two-week mark, or a return inside 6 months of a general treatment, means a warranty re-treatment - ring 1300 313 373.
Humidity is the driver. In the Sutherland Shire the summer months bring the fastest breeding, and the mild winters mean a population indoors never really slows - it just gets quieter.
We are around Ninth Avenue Reserve and the streets behind it most weeks, and we cover every address in 2232, not just the main roads.
Council officers want records, not reassurance. For food premises around Kirrawee we provide the treatment schedule, the products used, the monitoring point locations and the findings from each visit, in a form you can hand over.
German cockroaches get baits and growth regulators, and drain species get pit and subfloor work. The species decides the treatment.
Gel goes into the cracks and hinges. Nothing gets sprayed across the bench you prepare food on.

Backing onto bush means constant pressure from outside. cockroaches are already established in the reserve, and the house is simply the next thing they reach.
Mostly detached housing backing onto reserve. Proofing and the perimeter are what actually hold here.
We do all of those. A good share of the Kirrawee jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
Yes. The products are registered for this use and applied at label rates, and placement keeps them away from where children and animals go. Let us know at booking about pets, fish tanks or anyone with asthma and we will plan the visit around it.
Usually not. Most cockroach control work is done with you there, and anything that needs the room vacated is for a short period we will tell you about beforehand.
Allow one to two hours for a typical Kirrawee property. Larger homes, or ones where the problem has spread, take longer and we will say so when we quote.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. A return visit within the warranty period costs you nothing.
