What we cover in North Sydney, and how quickly we can get there.
We treat cockroaches right across 2055. North Sydney is roughly 3.3 km north of the city, which puts it well inside the Lower North Shore run our technicians work. Our technicians are through North Sydney most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
Most weeks we are somewhere between North Sydney station and Sydney Harbour National Park in North Sydney, and Quarantine Boat Depot Beach is close enough to be on the same run.
We work under the North Sydney, Mosman, Willoughby, Lane Cove and Hunters Hill area here, and Lavender Bay, McMahons Point and Waverton are all on the same route, which matters when cockroach problems are moving between adjoining properties. A lot of the housing here is older and close to the water, so sub-floors and lower levels hold damp - and damp is what keeps a population going.
What we see in North Sydney is period houses and converted blocks where the lower level is the problem. Describing it accurately when you book saves a second visit.
Our North Sydney runs also take in Greenwood Plaza and the area near Cammeray Golf Course, so the whole postcode is served.
The 2055 run is set the day before and you are given an arrival time. Where Lavender Bay and McMahons Point fall on the same round, we can usually bring the visit forward.
Worth knowing before you blame yourself: this species is almost always introduced. Flatten cardboard rather than storing it, and check any used appliance before it comes inside.
A large German cockroach population has a distinct musty, oily smell that gets into cupboards, drawer liners and anything cardboard. It comes from their droppings and secretions, and it lingers until the harbourage itself is cleaned out.
Two very different problems get called the same thing. Indoors and small means German cockroach and a resident population. Large and occasional means an outdoor species that walked in - and in North Sydney that usually traces back to a drain, a vent or a gap under a door.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, roughly 12 to 15 mm long. It lives indoors near warmth, food and moisture, and it is the species that breeds fastest inside a kitchen.

The largest one we deal with, around 4 cm and reddish-brown. Pits, sewers, grease traps and subfloors are where it breeds; the kitchen is somewhere it passes through at night.

Similar in size to the American cockroach but with pale yellow edges near the head and along the wings. Despite the name it is an outdoor species that comes in from gardens, mulch and subfloors.

Small and marked with pale bands. It is the one that does not want water, so it settles high and dry - behind pictures, inside electrical housings, in the top cupboards.

Photo from an Elite job: German cockroach activity found during a Sydney inspection. Droppings, cast skins and egg cases in the harbourage tell us the species and how established it is.

An Elite photo of cockroaches living inside commercial equipment. Warm motor cavities, perished door seals and hollow legs are the three places we open first on a kitchen job.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches moving about in daylight, and droppings like ground pepper along shelf edges | German cockroach, well established by the time they show in the day | Door hinges, the voids behind white goods, the kickboard space, the inside of appliances | Indoor work: bait rotation, a growth regulator, and placement into every crack and crevice |
| One or two large cockroaches at night near the laundry, bathroom or floor waste | American cockroach | Sewer and stormwater pits, subfloor, dry floor-waste traps | Drain and pit treatment, subfloor, sealing gaps around pipes |
| Sizeable cockroaches with pale edging that appear in the garage or at a back door | Australian cockroach | Leaf litter and mulch, stacked timber, and the roof cavity | Treating the perimeter, dusting the roof void, and reducing harbourage in the garden |
| Small ones in a bedroom or living room - behind a picture, inside the TV cabinet - not near water | Brown-banded cockroach | Furniture and electrical gear that stays warm and dry | Baiting aimed at the living and sleeping rooms rather than the kitchen |
| A unit where the problem never quite ends, weeks after a DIY attempt | German cockroach spreading from a neighbouring lot | Shared risers and bin rooms, plus the cavities inside shared walls | A building-wide, coordinated treatment. See strata pest control |

A German cockroach egg case holds around 30 eggs, and the female carries it until shortly before hatching. Killing adults on the surface leaves the next generation untouched.
A female will make several egg cases, and in kitchen warmth her young are breeding within weeks. Small numbers do not stay small.
Bombs and supermarket sprays push cockroaches deeper into wall voids and into the unit next door, and can contaminate the surfaces you prepare food on.
The allergen load - droppings, saliva, cast skins - is a recognised trigger for asthma and allergies, which is why clearing an infestation properly matters beyond the nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Step one is knowing which cockroach you have. Step two is finding where it shelters: torch and inspection mirror through hinges, appliance cavities, kickboards and wall voids.
We identify the build-up that is feeding them and tell you what to deal with first. The less competing food there is, the harder the bait works.
Professional gel goes down as small dots inside the cracks they already use. A cockroach feeds, goes home, and the product moves through the rest of the colony from there.
Two products with different jobs: the growth regulator stops nymphs maturing, and dust carries the treatment into voids and cavities beyond the reach of gel.
American and Australian cockroaches are treated at source: pits, floor wastes, subfloor and roof void. Treating the kitchen alone just handles the ones that already made it in.
We leave you a written record of the job. If it is still heavy at two weeks, or comes back inside the 6 months a general treatment carries, we return at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Works on a cockroach you can actually see | Egg cases and harbourage are untouched, and it repels the others further in |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Easy coverage of the exposed parts of a room | Never reaches the hiding places, leaves residue where you cook, and scatters them |
| Retail bait stations | Worth using when numbers are genuinely low | There is very little bait in them, and crumbs or grease will beat them every time |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Taken back into the harbourage and passed on; we can change formulation if they go off one | Wants a clean kitchen behind it, and takes days to a fortnight rather than minutes |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops the next generation maturing, breaking the cycle of egg cases | Deliberately slow, so bait does the knockdown alongside it |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Seeing more of them at first is expected. They come out, move slowly and die - the bait and growth regulator doing their job. Sweep up and leave everything else alone.
Numbers should drop away through this period. Do not wipe the bait out of hinges and cracks, and do not spray over it - cockroaches will stop taking bait that has been sprayed.
Still seeing them? Tell the agent or building manager, since the source is often a neighbouring lot. Apartment pest control explains what a building-wide job involves.
Call 1300 313 373 if activity is still steady after a fortnight, or if they come back within the 6 months a general treatment covers. The re-treatment is under warranty.
A cockroach sighting in a North Sydney food business is a compliance problem before it is a pest problem. The program we run is built so the paperwork exists before anyone asks for it.
A good share of our North Sydney work sits close to Sydney Harbour National Park, though the back streets and the Lavender Bay boundary are just as familiar.
Floor wastes, overflow pipes and the gap where a waste pipe passes through a cupboard base are all cockroach routes. A dry floor waste in a North Sydney laundry is an open door, and a cup of water down it once a week closes it.
The species sets the method - gel and growth regulator indoors for German cockroaches, pits and subfloor for the drain dwellers.
Precise gel placement into cracks and hinges rather than spraying the surfaces you cook on.
We cover everything from one apartment to a full commercial kitchen, scheduled around your trading hours.
Six months on a general treatment - if they come back inside it, so do we, at no charge.

Same-day attendance is usually available. North Sydney is about 3.3 km north of the CBD in the Lower North Shore, and we give you a firm arrival time rather than an all-day window.
Established gardens, original timber and sub-floors that no longer breathe - that is the profile of a harbourside house, and it suits cockroaches very well.
Period homes with sub-floors and mature gardens. The inspection covers the sub-floor, the perimeter and the planting, not just the interior.
Yes. Houses, townhouses, units, strata common property, rentals and commercial sites in North Sydney 2055 are all part of what we do, and the paperwork is the kind agents accept.
Yes. The products are registered for this use and applied at label rates, and placement keeps them away from where children and animals go. Let us know at booking about pets, fish tanks or anyone with asthma and we will plan the visit around it.
In the great majority of jobs, no. If one area needs to be left for an hour or two we say so before we start rather than after.
Allow one to two hours for a typical North Sydney property. Larger homes, or ones where the problem has spread, take longer and we will say so when we quote.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. If activity continues past the expected period, call us and we will come back.
