Where Westmead sits, who covers it and what it costs.
Westmead is part of the Greater Parramatta & Cumberland, 21.6 km or so west of the GPO, and 2145 is a postcode we know well. We run Westmead on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
Most weeks we are somewhere between Parramatta Aquatic Centre and Otto Losco Reserve in Westmead, and Westfield Parramatta is close enough to be on the same run.
Westmead is in the City of Parramatta and Cumberland area, and we cover Parramatta, North Parramatta and Constitution Hill on the same runs - handy if you own more than one property or your cockroach problem has come from next door. The building stock is close-packed, so we look at what the property adjoins before deciding where product goes.
Around Westmead the pattern is fairly consistent: apartments and converted blocks where the kitchen backs onto a service riser. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
The rest of 2145 is covered too, including the pockets around Westmead station and Maple Tree Road Reserve.
Your appointment is confirmed the day before with a real arrival time. Because Parramatta and North Parramatta are covered on the same round, 2145 often has an earlier slot available.
They are active all year indoors - a heated kitchen never really has a winter - but the rate of increase is seasonal. Treating in the cooler months means working against a slower population.
They need three things: warmth, damp and somewhere tight to wedge into. In a Westmead kitchen that describes the back of the fridge, the cavity behind the splashback and the joint where the bench meets the wall, and that is exactly where product has to go.
The usual route into a Westmead home is carried, not crawled. Appliance deliveries, recycled cartons and second-hand white goods are the three we trace most often.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

The small indoor one - about 12 to 15 mm, light brown, with a pair of dark bands just behind the head. It stays close to warmth and water, which is why kitchens and bathrooms are where it establishes.

The largest one we deal with, around 4 cm and reddish-brown. Pits, sewers, grease traps and subfloors are where it breeds; the kitchen is somewhere it passes through at night.

Similar in size to the American cockroach but with pale yellow edges near the head and along the wings. Despite the name it is an outdoor species that comes in from gardens, mulch and subfloors.

A small banded cockroach that favours warmth and dryness rather than moisture. Look for it high up: behind frames, inside electrical enclosures and in cupboards well away from the sink.

An Elite inspection photo showing German cockroach activity in Sydney. What we look for is the evidence - droppings, cast skins, egg cases - because it identifies the species and how long it has been there.

From an Elite commercial job: harbourage found inside kitchen equipment. The motor housing, the door seal and the hollow leg hold warmth after close and almost never get cleaned out.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches in the kitchen during the day, plus pepper-like droppings in cupboard corners | German cockroach, usually a heavy infestation | Hinges, dishwasher and fridge cavities, behind the kickboards, inside appliances | Gel bait rotation, growth regulator and crack-and-crevice treatment inside |
| The occasional large cockroach at night in a wet area rather than a group in the kitchen | American cockroach | Pits, the subfloor, and floor wastes that are no longer holding water | Drain and pit treatment plus subfloor work, with pipe gaps sealed afterwards |
| Large cockroaches with yellow edging, seen in the garage or coming in from the garden | Australian cockroach | Mulch, leaf litter, woodpiles, roof void | External perimeter, roof void dusting, garden harbourage |
| Small cockroaches found upstairs or in bedrooms rather than around the sink | Brown-banded cockroach | Dry, warm furniture and the inside of electrical appliances | Targeted bait placement through living and sleeping spaces |
| A flat that clears for a fortnight and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach moving through the building | Shared risers, the bin room, and cavities running between walls | A coordinated treatment across the block. See strata pest control |

The egg case - around 30 eggs, carried by the female until just before hatching - is shielded from anything applied to a surface. That is why the population reappears after a DIY attempt.
A female will make several egg cases, and in kitchen warmth her young are breeding within weeks. Small numbers do not stay small.
Because they repel, bombs and aerosols spread the problem: deeper into the walls, into the neighbouring unit, and over the surfaces you prepare food on.
Cast skins, droppings and saliva are recognised asthma and allergy triggers, which makes a long-running infestation a health issue rather than just an annoyance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
We identify the species, then go looking with a torch and mirror - hinges, inside appliances, behind the kickboards, into the wall voids. What we find decides the treatment, not a set routine.
Grease and food residue keep a colony going, so we show you the spots that matter most. Bait only wins if it is the best meal in the room.
Small dots of professional gel bait go into the cracks cockroaches travel through. They eat, return to harbourage and the effect passes through the population.
A growth regulator shuts down the next generation, and dust goes into the voids and cavities where gel simply cannot be placed.
The outdoor species need outdoor treatment - stormwater pits, floor wastes, under the floor and the roof cavity, which is where they actually live before they reach your kitchen.
You get a written summary. If activity is still heavy after two weeks or returns within 6 months of a general treatment, we come back at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Kills on contact, so the visible one goes | Cannot reach an egg case or a void, and repels the remainder into the walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Reaches open floor and bench area without effort | Misses the harbourage entirely, leaves residue where you prepare food, and disperses them |
| Retail bait stations | Can help if you have only seen a few | The bait volume is small, and competing food such as grease wins out |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Taken into the harbourage and shared around; if they tire of one gel we change it | Needs the kitchen clean behind it, and works over days rather than hours |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops nymphs maturing into breeding adults, which breaks the egg-case cycle | Works slowly, so it is always paired with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Cockroaches coming out in daylight and moving sluggishly is the normal first sign. The bait and growth regulator are working. Sweep up what you find and carry on.
Activity should fall steadily. Leave bait spots in hinges and cracks alone, and avoid spraying your own insecticide over them, which can make cockroaches refuse the bait.
Still seeing them? Tell the agent or building manager, since the source is often a neighbouring lot. Apartment pest control explains what a building-wide job involves.
Call 1300 313 373 if activity is still steady after a fortnight, or if they come back within the 6 months a general treatment covers. The re-treatment is under warranty.
Where Westmead housing shares walls and roof voids - semis, terraces, unit blocks - the population is usually shared too. We say so up front rather than treating one flat and letting you discover it a month later.
Sydney does not give cockroaches an off-season. Around Westmead the warm, humid stretch from October through March drives breeding hardest, but a heated Greater Parramatta & Cumberland home keeps a kitchen population going through winter without pause.
In older Westmead buildings a cockroach population can live entirely in the drain line and come up at night. Treating the kitchen and ignoring the pipework means you are treating the visitors, not the residents.
German cockroaches get baits and growth regulators, and drain species get pit and subfloor work. The species decides the treatment.
Precise gel placement into cracks and hinges rather than spraying the surfaces you cook on.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. Two things move it: how big the place is, and how far it has already spread. We work that out on the phone or on site and tell you the figure before anything starts in Westmead. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
Same-day attendance is usually available. Westmead sits roughly 21.6 km west of the CBD, inside our Greater Parramatta & Cumberland run, so we book a time and keep to it.
Joined housing is the reason. Where walls, roof voids and sub-floors are continuous between properties, cockroaches are a street-level problem rather than a house-level one.
Terraces and semis that share walls, roof voids and drainage - so we look at what the property adjoins before deciding where product goes.
Yes. Houses, townhouses, units, strata common property, rentals and commercial sites in Westmead 2145 are all part of what we do, and the paperwork is the kind agents accept.
Yes, with the usual care. Everything is APVMA-registered and used to label, and we will work around pets, aquariums and anyone in the house with a respiratory condition if you tell us when you book.
Normally you can stay. Some treatments mean keeping out of a particular room briefly, and we will flag that when we arrive so you can plan around it.
Typically one to two hours on site. What extends it is size, access and how far the problem has gone, all of which are accounted for in the quote.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. If activity continues past the expected period, call us and we will come back.
We do. Westmead and Parramatta, North Parramatta, Constitution Hill and Northmead are all on the same route, which helps if you own more than one property in the area.
