Local technicians, fixed prices and a written report for every job in Northmead.
Our Hills District technicians cover Northmead and the rest of 2152 as a matter of course - it is only about 21.9 km north-west of the city. We run Northmead on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
A lot of our Northmead jobs are in the streets around Childrens Hospital station and Hammers Road Reserve, and we are out near Otto Losco Reserve regularly enough that the technician usually knows the access before they arrive.
Our runs through Northmead also take in Constitution Hill, North Parramatta and Winston Hills. Bush edges keep re-supplying the problem, which is why we treat the boundary rather than only the interior.
The bulk of our Northmead work is homes on sloping blocks with a sub-floor and bush on the boundary. Mention the detail when you call 1300 313 373 - it decides how long we need on site.
Every part of 2152 is covered as standard.
We confirm your slot the day before and arrive at a stated time. Constitution Hill and North Parramatta sit on the same run, so earlier appointments in 2152 come up regularly.
People assume it is about crumbs. It is mostly about moisture. The leaking waste under a Northmead sink, condensation behind the fridge or a shower recess that never dries will hold a population on its own.
Two very different problems get called the same thing. Indoors and small means German cockroach and a resident population. Large and occasional means an outdoor species that walked in - and in Northmead that usually traces back to a drain, a vent or a gap under a door.
Cockroaches avoid light, so seeing one in daylight is not a chance encounter - it usually means the harbourage is crowded enough to push individuals out into the open. A daytime sighting in a Northmead kitchen is a sign of scale, not bad luck.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Small, 12 to 15 mm, light brown, marked with two dark stripes behind the head. This is the indoor breeder: it wants warmth, food and damp, and a kitchen supplies all three.

Up to roughly 4 cm long and reddish-brown. You find it in sewers, pits, grease traps and under the floor, and it travels up through drains after dark rather than nesting indoors.

About the same size as the American, distinguished by pale yellow margins behind the head and along the wing edges. It is an outdoor cockroach - mulch, garden beds and subfloors - that wanders inside.

Small and marked with pale bands. It is the one that does not want water, so it settles high and dry - behind pictures, inside electrical housings, in the top cupboards.

One of our Sydney inspections, showing German cockroach activity. The harbourage itself tells the story: droppings, cast skins and egg cases give us both the species and the scale.

Taken on an Elite commercial job - harbourage inside the equipment itself. Motor cavities, door seals and hollow legs stay warm all night and rarely see a cloth.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cockroaches barely 15 mm out in the open by day, with dark pepper-like specks where cupboards meet | German cockroach, and an established one | Inside hinges, appliance cavities, the kickboard void, the housings of the appliances themselves | Gel baits rotated through the job, a growth regulator, and crack-and-crevice application indoors |
| The occasional large cockroach at night in a wet area rather than a group in the kitchen | American cockroach | Pits, the subfloor, and floor wastes that are no longer holding water | Drain and pit treatment plus subfloor work, with pipe gaps sealed afterwards |
| Big yellow-margined cockroaches that seem to come from the garden rather than the kitchen | Australian cockroach | Garden mulch, leaf litter and woodpiles, plus the roof cavity | Treating outside: the perimeter, the roof void, and the harbourage in the beds themselves |
| Small ones in a bedroom or living room - behind a picture, inside the TV cabinet - not near water | Brown-banded cockroach | Furniture and electrical gear that stays warm and dry | Baiting aimed at the living and sleeping rooms rather than the kitchen |
| A flat that clears for a fortnight and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach moving through the building | Shared risers, the bin room, and cavities running between walls | A coordinated treatment across the block. See strata pest control |

A licensed Sydney technician will talk it through with you and give you a fixed quote within half an hour.
A German cockroach egg case holds about 30 eggs and travels with the female until hatching is close. Kill the adults you can see and the next generation still arrives.
Each female can produce several egg cases in her life, and the young mature in weeks in a warm kitchen. A few cockroaches become an infestation quickly.
A repellent product scatters rather than clears - deeper into the wall void, through to the unit next door - and leaves residue where food is prepared.
Cockroach droppings, saliva and cast skins are recognised triggers for allergies and asthma, so a lingering infestation is a health issue as well as a nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
We confirm the species and use a torch and inspection mirror to find harbourage: hinges, appliance housings, kickboards and wall voids. The treatment follows what we find, not a standard routine.
Where build-up is feeding them, you will get a short list of what to clean and the order to do it in - bait has to out-compete everything else available.
Small dots of professional gel bait go into the cracks cockroaches travel through. They eat, return to harbourage and the effect passes through the population.
The growth regulator keeps nymphs from ever breeding; dust handles the wall voids and cavities that no gel dot can reach.
Pits, floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void get treated for the American and Australian species - they come in from there, so that is where it has to be done.
We leave you a written record of the job. If it is still heavy at two weeks, or comes back inside the 6 months a general treatment carries, we return at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Kills the cockroach you can see | Does not reach egg cases or voids, and repels others deeper into walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Easy coverage of the exposed parts of a room | Never reaches the hiding places, leaves residue where you cook, and scatters them |
| Retail bait stations | Useful for a light problem | Low bait volume, and easily out-competed by crumbs and grease |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Carried home and shared where they shelter; if they start refusing one gel we rotate to another | Requires a clean kitchen and patience - days to a couple of weeks, not overnight |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops nymphs maturing into breeding adults, which breaks the egg-case cycle | Works slowly, so it is always paired with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Seeing more of them at first is expected. They come out, move slowly and die - the bait and growth regulator doing their job. Sweep up and leave everything else alone.
Expect activity to taper off. The bait dots in hinges and cracks need to stay put, and nothing should be sprayed over them - that is what makes cockroaches avoid bait.
Tell your agent or building manager if activity continues, as cockroaches often travel between lots. Our apartment pest control page explains building-wide options.
Call 1300 313 373 if activity is still steady after a fortnight, or if they come back within the 6 months a general treatment covers. The re-treatment is under warranty.
A good share of our Northmead work sits close to Otto Losco Reserve, though the back streets and the Constitution Hill boundary are just as familiar.
Council officers want records, not reassurance. For food premises around Northmead we provide the treatment schedule, the products used, the monitoring point locations and the findings from each visit, in a form you can hand over.
Sydney does not give cockroaches an off-season. Around Northmead the warm, humid stretch from October through March drives breeding hardest, but a heated Hills District home keeps a kitchen population going through winter without pause.
German cockroaches get baits and growth regulators, and drain species get pit and subfloor work. The species decides the treatment.
Gel goes into the cracks and hinges. Nothing gets sprayed across the bench you prepare food on.
From single apartments to commercial kitchens serviced outside trading hours.
If cockroaches return inside 6 months of a general treatment, we come back free of charge.

Same-day attendance is usually available. Northmead is about 21.9 km north-west of the CBD in the Hills District, and we give you a firm arrival time rather than an all-day window.
Where bushland adjoins the block, the question is not how cockroaches got in but how often. The perimeter is what decides that.
Homes with sub-floors and roof voids backing onto reserve - we inspect all three plus the boundary.
We do. A lot of our Northmead work is rentals and strata, so the report, the products used and the areas treated are all recorded in writing for whoever needs them.
Yes. Everything we use is registered for the purpose and applied at label rates, and we place product where people and animals do not go. Tell us about pets, aquariums or anyone with a respiratory condition at booking.
Normally you can stay. Some treatments mean keeping out of a particular room briefly, and we will flag that when we arrive so you can plan around it.

We do. Northmead and Constitution Hill, North Parramatta, Winston Hills and Westmead are all on the same route, which helps if you own more than one property in the area.
