Days 1 to 3
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.

What we cover in South Coogee, and how quickly we can get there.
Our Eastern Suburbs technicians cover South Coogee and the rest of 2034 as a matter of course - it is only about 8.5 km south-east of the city. Our technicians are through South Coogee most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
A lot of our South Coogee jobs are in the streets around Ernest Collins Reserve and Coogee Beach, and we are out near Popplewell Park regularly enough that the technician usually knows the access before they arrive.
The suburb sits in the Waverley, Randwick and Woollahra area. Coogee, Maroubra and Clovelly are all covered on the same day, so a problem that has spread across a boundary can be handled in one visit. The coastal damp is the part that matters: sub-floors and ground-floor wet areas rarely dry out properly.
Most South Coogee bookings come in as apartments where the problem is really in the building rather than the flat. Say which one applies when you call 1300 313 373 and the technician will have the right products on the van.
All of 2034 falls inside the area we service.
Your appointment is confirmed the day before with a real arrival time. Because Coogee and Maroubra are covered on the same round, 2034 often has an earlier slot available.
There is a particular smell to a bad one - stale and slightly greasy, strongest when you open a cupboard that has been shut. If you can smell it in a South Coogee kitchen, the population is well past a few.
One German cockroach egg case holds about forty young, and a female carries it until days before they hatch. That is why a kitchen in South Coogee can look clear for a fortnight and then be worse than when you started. Kill the adults you can see and you have removed maybe a tenth of what is living behind the kickboards.
Cockroach calls climb from October and peak through February, because warmth shortens the time a nymph needs to reach breeding age. The same population that was manageable in a South Coogee kitchen in winter can double over a hot month.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

The small indoor one - about 12 to 15 mm, light brown, with a pair of dark bands just behind the head. It stays close to warmth and water, which is why kitchens and bathrooms are where it establishes.

Reddish-brown and as long as 4 cm. It belongs to the drainage system - sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps, the subfloor - and arrives in the kitchen overnight from there.

Similar in size to the American cockroach, told apart by the yellow margins at the head and wing edges. An outdoor species - gardens, mulch, the subfloor - that makes its way in.

A small cockroach with light bands across the body, found away from water in warm dry positions: behind frames, in electrical fittings, in cupboards at height.

Photo from an Elite job: German cockroach activity found during a Sydney inspection. Droppings, cast skins and egg cases in the harbourage tell us the species and how established it is.

From an Elite commercial job: harbourage found inside kitchen equipment. The motor housing, the door seal and the hollow leg hold warmth after close and almost never get cleaned out.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cockroaches barely 15 mm out in the open by day, with dark pepper-like specks where cupboards meet | German cockroach, and an established one | Inside hinges, appliance cavities, the kickboard void, the housings of the appliances themselves | Gel baits rotated through the job, a growth regulator, and crack-and-crevice application indoors |
| Big cockroaches seen after dark near a floor waste, the bathroom or the laundry | American cockroach | Sewer and stormwater pits and the subfloor - plus dried-out waste traps as the way in | We treat the pits, the drain lines and the subfloor, then seal around the pipework |
| Large ones marked with yellow near the head, found in the garage or wandering in from the yard | Australian cockroach | Mulched beds, leaf litter, woodpiles, and the roof space above | Work outside: the perimeter, the roof void, and the harbourage in the garden itself |
| Small cockroaches behind frames and in the TV cabinet, nowhere near a tap | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry furniture, and electrical appliances that run warm | Baiting concentrated in the rooms you live and sleep in |
| A unit that goes quiet for a couple of weeks and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach coming through from another lot | The risers, bin room and wall cavities the units have in common | A treatment coordinated across the building. See strata pest control |

A German cockroach egg case holds about 30 eggs and travels with the female until hatching is close. Kill the adults you can see and the next generation still arrives.
A female will make several egg cases, and in kitchen warmth her young are breeding within weeks. Small numbers do not stay small.
Because they repel, bombs and aerosols spread the problem: deeper into the walls, into the neighbouring unit, and over the surfaces you prepare food on.
Cockroach droppings, saliva and cast skins are recognised triggers for allergies and asthma, so a lingering infestation is a health issue as well as a nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
First we establish which cockroach it is, then map where it lives - torch and mirror into hinges, motor cavities, behind kickboards and into wall voids. Everything after this depends on that map.
If grease or food residue is sustaining the population, we point out exactly what to clean and in what order. Bait competes with whatever else is available, so this step changes the result.
We place gel in precise dots along their travel routes rather than spraying. They feed, return to the harbourage, and the effect spreads through the population by contact and feeding.
The growth regulator keeps nymphs from ever breeding; dust handles the wall voids and cavities that no gel dot can reach.
Pits, floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void get treated for the American and Australian species - they come in from there, so that is where it has to be done.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Effective on the one you are aiming at | Leaves egg cases and wall voids untouched, and scatters the rest further in |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Reaches open floor and bench area without effort | Misses the harbourage entirely, leaves residue where you prepare food, and disperses them |
| Retail bait stations | Has a place when you have only seen one or two | Very little bait in each, and any crumbs or grease will out-compete it |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Taken into the harbourage and shared around; if they tire of one gel we change it | Needs the kitchen clean behind it, and works over days rather than hours |
| Insect growth regulator | Prevents the young reaching breeding age, which ends the egg-case cycle | Slow by design, so we never use it on its own - it goes in with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.
Activity should fall steadily. Leave bait spots in hinges and cracks alone, and avoid spraying your own insecticide over them, which can make cockroaches refuse the bait.
Still seeing them? Tell the agent or building manager, since the source is often a neighbouring lot. Apartment pest control explains what a building-wide job involves.
Call 1300 313 373 if activity is still steady after a fortnight, or if they come back within the 6 months a general treatment covers. The re-treatment is under warranty.
In older South Coogee buildings a cockroach population can live entirely in the drain line and come up at night. Treating the kitchen and ignoring the pipework means you are treating the visitors, not the residents.
Council officers want records, not reassurance. For food premises around South Coogee we provide the treatment schedule, the products used, the monitoring point locations and the findings from each visit, in a form you can hand over.
Sydney does not give cockroaches an off-season. Around South Coogee the warm, humid stretch from October through March drives breeding hardest, but a heated Eastern Suburbs home keeps a kitchen population going through winter without pause.
What we use depends on what you have: baits and growth regulators for German cockroaches, pit and subfloor treatment for the drain species.
Bait placed in cracks and hinges, not a blanket spray over food preparation surfaces.
One flat or a whole commercial kitchen - food premises are done outside trading hours.
Six months on a general treatment - if they come back inside it, so do we, at no charge.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. What changes the figure is the size of the building, how many areas are affected and the access. You get that number up front for South Coogee 2034, with no call-out fee. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
Same-day attendance is usually available. Our Eastern Suburbs technicians cover South Coogee daily, and you get a confirmed arrival time when you book.
Being near the water means humidity that never really drops. Sub-floors stay moist, lower levels stay cool and damp, and cockroaches do well in both.
Coastal housing here is a mix, but the damp lower level is consistent across most of it.
We do all of those. A good share of the South Coogee jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
Yes, with the usual care. Everything is APVMA-registered and used to label, and we will work around pets, aquariums and anyone in the house with a respiratory condition if you tell us when you book.
You do not normally need to leave. Anything requiring an empty room is short, and you will know about it before the work starts.
Usually between one and two hours on site. Bigger properties and heavier infestations take more, and that is included in the quote rather than added afterwards.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. If activity continues past the expected period, call us and we will come back.
Yes. As well as South Coogee we cover Coogee, Maroubra, Clovelly and Randwick on the same runs, so a job that crosses a boundary can be handled in one visit.
