Expect more sightings, not fewer - slow-moving cockroaches out in the open or dead on the floor. That is the bait and growth regulator taking effect. Sweep them up.

What we cover in Coogee, and how quickly we can get there.
We treat cockroaches right across 2034. Coogee is roughly 7 km south-east of the city, which puts it well inside the Eastern Suburbs run our technicians work. Our technicians are through Coogee most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
If you are near Ernest Collins Reserve, Coogee Beach or Royal Randwick Shopping Centre, that is ground we cover constantly - it is the busiest part of Coogee for us.
We work under the Waverley, Randwick and Woollahra area here, and Clovelly, Randwick and South Coogee are all on the same route, which matters when cockroach problems are moving between adjoining properties. The coastal damp is the part that matters: sub-floors and ground-floor wet areas rarely dry out properly.
Coogee jobs tend to be ground-floor units with a damp sub-floor, and houses where the garage sits below the living level. Let us know which when you ring and we will plan the visit around it.
We also work the area near North Goldstein Reserve, and the rest of 2034 with it.
Your appointment is confirmed the day before with a real arrival time. Because Clovelly and Randwick are covered on the same round, 2034 often has an earlier slot available.
Heat is an accelerator. Through a Coogee summer the cycle from egg case to breeding adult runs weeks faster than it does in July, which is why a small problem noticed in spring is worth dealing with before Christmas.
Floor wastes, overflow pipes and the gap where a waste pipe passes through a cupboard base are all cockroach routes. A dry floor waste in a Coogee laundry is an open door, and a cup of water down it once a week closes it.
Two very different problems get called the same thing. Indoors and small means German cockroach and a resident population. Large and occasional means an outdoor species that walked in - and in Coogee that usually traces back to a drain, a vent or a gap under a door.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Around 12 to 15 mm, light brown, two dark stripes running back from the head. It never really leaves the building - warmth, a food source and a little moisture keep it going, and it out-breeds every other cockroach in a kitchen.

Up to roughly 4 cm long and reddish-brown. You find it in sewers, pits, grease traps and under the floor, and it travels up through drains after dark rather than nesting indoors.

About the same size as the American, distinguished by pale yellow margins behind the head and along the wing edges. It is an outdoor cockroach - mulch, garden beds and subfloors - that wanders inside.

A small species with pale bands across the body that prefers warm, dry spots higher up, such as behind picture frames, in electrical housings and inside cupboards away from water.

An Elite inspection photo showing German cockroach activity in Sydney. What we look for is the evidence - droppings, cast skins, egg cases - because it identifies the species and how long it has been there.

An Elite photo of cockroaches living inside commercial equipment. Warm motor cavities, perished door seals and hollow legs are the three places we open first on a kitchen job.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches you can see without a torch, plus droppings like coarse pepper on cupboard edges | German cockroach - daytime sightings mean a lot of them | Hinges, the cavity behind the fridge, under the kickboards, in the housings of the appliances | Gel bait rotated through the job, a growth regulator, and crack-and-crevice work indoors |
| A single big one after dark by the laundry tub, the bathroom or a floor drain | American cockroach | Stormwater and sewer pits, the space under the floor, floor wastes that have dried out | Treating the pits and drains, the subfloor, and sealing the gaps where pipes pass through |
| Large ones marked with yellow near the head, found in the garage or wandering in from the yard | Australian cockroach | Mulched beds, leaf litter, woodpiles, and the roof space above | Work outside: the perimeter, the roof void, and the harbourage in the garden itself |
| Small ones in a bedroom or living room - behind a picture, inside the TV cabinet - not near water | Brown-banded cockroach | Furniture and electrical gear that stays warm and dry | Baiting aimed at the living and sleeping rooms rather than the kitchen |
| Cockroaches in a unit that keep returning weeks after your own treatment | German cockroach moving between units | Shared service risers, bin rooms and wall cavities | A coordinated building treatment. See strata pest control |

A licensed Sydney technician will talk it through with you and give you a fixed quote within half an hour.
A German cockroach egg case holds about 30 eggs and travels with the female until hatching is close. Kill the adults you can see and the next generation still arrives.
Multiply several egg cases per female by nymphs that mature in a few warm weeks and you have the reason a minor sighting turns into an infestation.
A repellent product scatters rather than clears - deeper into the wall void, through to the unit next door - and leaves residue where food is prepared.
Droppings, saliva and shed skins are established asthma and allergy triggers. An infestation left in place is a health problem, not only an unpleasant one.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
We identify the species, then go looking with a torch and mirror - hinges, inside appliances, behind the kickboards, into the wall voids. What we find decides the treatment, not a set routine.
If grease or food residue is sustaining the population, we point out exactly what to clean and in what order. Bait competes with whatever else is available, so this step changes the result.
Small dots of professional gel bait go into the cracks cockroaches travel through. They eat, return to harbourage and the effect passes through the population.
A growth regulator prevents the young reaching breeding age, while dust treats the wall voids and cavities that gel placement cannot get into.
American and Australian cockroaches are treated at source: pits, floor wastes, subfloor and roof void. Treating the kitchen alone just handles the ones that already made it in.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Quick on a cockroach you can actually reach | No effect on egg cases or harbourage, and it pushes the others deeper into cavities |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Gets product onto every open surface at once | Harbourage is missed, benches end up with residue, and the colony splits up |
| Retail bait stations | Fine as a first step on a small problem | Not enough bait to matter, and any food left about is more attractive |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Fed on inside the harbourage and shared through the colony, with the option to swap formulations | Only works with the food competition removed, and needs days to two weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops the young ever reaching breeding age, which ends the egg-case cycle | Acts slowly by design, so bait always goes in with it |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.

Activity should fall steadily. Leave bait spots in hinges and cracks alone, and avoid spraying your own insecticide over them, which can make cockroaches refuse the bait.
Where activity continues, raise it with your agent or strata manager, because they cross between lots. See apartment pest control for how a building-wide treatment runs.
Steady activity at the two-week mark, or a return inside 6 months of a general treatment, means a warranty re-treatment - ring 1300 313 373.
Where Coogee housing shares walls and roof voids - semis, terraces, unit blocks - the population is usually shared too. We say so up front rather than treating one flat and letting you discover it a month later.
Council officers want records, not reassurance. For food premises around Coogee we provide the treatment schedule, the products used, the monitoring point locations and the findings from each visit, in a form you can hand over.
The pattern we see across Coogee and the wider Eastern Suburbs is a surge after the first properly warm week, then steady pressure until autumn. Treating before that surge is far cheaper than treating after it.
The species sets the method - gel and growth regulator indoors for German cockroaches, pits and subfloor for the drain dwellers.
Precise gel placement into cracks and hinges rather than spraying the surfaces you cook on.
Apartments through to commercial kitchens, with food businesses serviced when they are closed.
General treatments carry 6 months: a return within that window brings us back at no cost.

Same-day attendance is usually available. Our Eastern Suburbs technicians cover Coogee daily, and you get a confirmed arrival time when you book.
Humidity close to the coast does not fall away in winter the way it does inland, so cockroaches here get a longer active season than they would further west.
Walk-up blocks and free-standing houses, with moisture the common factor. The sub-floor gets as much attention as the kitchen.
We do all of those. A good share of the Coogee jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
Yes. The products are registered for this use and applied at label rates, and placement keeps them away from where children and animals go. Let us know at booking about pets, fish tanks or anyone with asthma and we will plan the visit around it.
Usually not. Most cockroach control work is done with you there, and anything that needs the room vacated is for a short period we will tell you about beforehand.
Usually between one and two hours on site. Bigger properties and heavier infestations take more, and that is included in the quote rather than added afterwards.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. So if they turn up again within the warranty, ring us and we will attend.
All of them. Coogee sits alongside Clovelly, Randwick, South Coogee and Bronte in our coverage, and they are serviced on the same schedule.
