What we cover in Guildford, and how quickly we can get there.
Postcode 2161 covers Guildford and the streets immediately around it. At about 19.8 km west of the CBD it falls in the Greater Parramatta & Cumberland, where we have vans out daily. We run Guildford on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
Around Guildford we work the pockets near Woodville Golf Course, Guildford station and Maurice O'Connell Reserve most often, so the van is rarely far away when a job comes in.
City of Parramatta and Cumberland is the council area for Guildford, and we treat Merrylands, Fairfield East and Yennora on the same schedule. Terraces, semis and converted blocks share cavities and risers, which is why a single-unit treatment often does not hold on its own.
The bulk of our Guildford work is older semis with a paved rear courtyard and a sub-floor that no longer dries out. Mention the detail when you call 1300 313 373 - it decides how long we need on site.
Every part of 2161 is covered as standard.
The 2161 run is set the day before and you are given an arrival time. Where Merrylands and Fairfield East fall on the same round, we can usually bring the visit forward.
They need three things: warmth, damp and somewhere tight to wedge into. In a Guildford kitchen that describes the back of the fridge, the cavity behind the splashback and the joint where the bench meets the wall, and that is exactly where product has to go.
People assume it is about crumbs. It is mostly about moisture. The leaking waste under a Guildford sink, condensation behind the fridge or a shower recess that never dries will hold a population on its own.
Cockroaches do not respect a lease boundary. In a Guildford block they move through service risers, shared drains and the cavity between units, so treating one kitchen in a building with a problem is money spent on a holding pattern.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Small, 12 to 15 mm, light brown, marked with two dark stripes behind the head. This is the indoor breeder: it wants warmth, food and damp, and a kitchen supplies all three.

Up to roughly 4 cm long and reddish-brown. You find it in sewers, pits, grease traps and under the floor, and it travels up through drains after dark rather than nesting indoors.

Similar in size to the American cockroach but with pale yellow edges near the head and along the wings. Despite the name it is an outdoor species that comes in from gardens, mulch and subfloors.

A small banded cockroach that favours warmth and dryness rather than moisture. Look for it high up: behind frames, inside electrical enclosures and in cupboards well away from the sink.

An Elite job photo of German cockroach activity on a Sydney inspection. Egg cases, shed skins and droppings in the harbourage are how we work out what we are dealing with.

Photo from an Elite job: cockroach harbourage inside commercial kitchen equipment. Motor housings, door seals and hollow legs stay warm overnight and are rarely cleaned.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches in the kitchen during the day, plus pepper-like droppings in cupboard corners | German cockroach, usually a heavy infestation | Hinges, dishwasher and fridge cavities, behind the kickboards, inside appliances | Gel bait rotation, growth regulator and crack-and-crevice treatment inside |
| Big cockroaches at night in the wet areas, never a crowd of them in the kitchen | American cockroach | Down in the pits and the subfloor, coming up through floor wastes with no water in them | We treat the pits and drain lines and the subfloor, then seal where the pipes come through |
| Large cockroaches with yellow edging, seen in the garage or coming in from the garden | Australian cockroach | Mulch, leaf litter, woodpiles, roof void | External perimeter, roof void dusting, garden harbourage |
| Small cockroaches behind frames and in the TV cabinet, nowhere near a tap | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry furniture, and electrical appliances that run warm | Baiting concentrated in the rooms you live and sleep in |
| An apartment where they come back a few weeks after you treated it yourself | German cockroach travelling between lots | The service risers, the bin room and the wall cavities the units share | Treating the building as one job. See strata pest control |

A German cockroach egg case holds about 30 eggs and travels with the female until hatching is close. Kill the adults you can see and the next generation still arrives.
Each female can produce several egg cases in her life, and the young mature in weeks in a warm kitchen. A few cockroaches become an infestation quickly.
Because they repel, bombs and aerosols spread the problem: deeper into the walls, into the neighbouring unit, and over the surfaces you prepare food on.
Cockroach droppings, saliva and cast skins are recognised triggers for allergies and asthma, so a lingering infestation is a health issue as well as a nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
We confirm the species and use a torch and inspection mirror to find harbourage: hinges, appliance housings, kickboards and wall voids. The treatment follows what we find, not a standard routine.
We identify the build-up that is feeding them and tell you what to deal with first. The less competing food there is, the harder the bait works.
Small dots of professional gel bait go into the cracks cockroaches travel through. They eat, return to harbourage and the effect passes through the population.
A growth regulator prevents the young reaching breeding age, while dust treats the wall voids and cavities that gel placement cannot get into.
With American and Australian cockroaches the work is outside the kitchen: the pits, the floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void, because that is where they breed.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Works on a cockroach you can actually see | Egg cases and harbourage are untouched, and it repels the others further in |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Treats the exposed surfaces of a room in one go | Nothing reaches the hiding places, residue settles on food surfaces, and the colony scatters |
| Retail bait stations | Useful for a light problem | Low bait volume, and easily out-competed by crumbs and grease |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Carried home and shared where they shelter; if they start refusing one gel we rotate to another | Requires a clean kitchen and patience - days to a couple of weeks, not overnight |
| Insect growth regulator | Prevents nymphs maturing, so the cycle of egg cases stops | Slow on its own, which is why it is never used without bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Cockroaches coming out in daylight and moving sluggishly is the normal first sign. The bait and growth regulator are working. Sweep up what you find and carry on.
You should see a steady decline. Leave the gel where we put it in hinges and cracks, and keep your own insecticide away from it, or they will refuse to feed.
Keep the agent or building manager informed if it does not settle; cockroaches travel between flats. Our apartment pest control page covers the options for a whole block.

From Woodville Golf Course through to the Merrylands side of Guildford, it is all one service area for us - same price, same response time.
Council officers want records, not reassurance. For food premises around Guildford we provide the treatment schedule, the products used, the monitoring point locations and the findings from each visit, in a form you can hand over.
The pattern we see across Guildford and the wider Greater Parramatta & Cumberland is a surge after the first properly warm week, then steady pressure until autumn. Treating before that surge is far cheaper than treating after it.
Treatment follows identification. Indoor German cockroaches need bait and a growth regulator; drain-dwelling species need the pits and subfloor treated.
Gel goes into the cracks and hinges. Nothing gets sprayed across the bench you prepare food on.
Single units through to commercial kitchens, with food premises worked outside trading hours.
A general treatment is covered for 6 months. Cockroaches inside that period mean a free return visit.

These houses were built joined together, and they have aged that way. Party walls, continuous roof voids and shared drainage give cockroaches a route your front door has no bearing on.
Mostly terrace and semi. We look at the party wall, the sub-floor and the roof space, because those are the routes between houses.
