Days 1 to 3
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.

Local technicians, fixed prices and a written report for every job in Turramurra.
Our Upper North Shore technicians cover Turramurra and the rest of 2074 as a matter of course - it is only about 16.8 km north-west of the city. We run Turramurra on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
Around Turramurra we work the pockets near Turramurra Village Park, Duff Street Reserve and Pymble Golf Club most often, so the van is rarely far away when a job comes in.
The suburb sits in the Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby area. Warrawee, Pymble and Wahroonga are all covered on the same day, so a problem that has spread across a boundary can be handled in one visit. Bush edges keep re-supplying the problem, which is why we treat the boundary rather than only the interior.
Most Turramurra bookings come in as homes on sloping blocks with a sub-floor and bush on the boundary. Say which one applies when you call 1300 313 373 and the technician will have the right products on the van.
Beyond that we cover the rest of 2074, including the streets around Turramurra station.
The 2074 run is set the day before and you are given an arrival time. Where Warrawee and Pymble fall on the same round, we can usually bring the visit forward.
Where Turramurra housing shares walls and roof voids - semis, terraces, unit blocks - the population is usually shared too. We say so up front rather than treating one flat and letting you discover it a month later.
Floor wastes, overflow pipes and the gap where a waste pipe passes through a cupboard base are all cockroach routes. A dry floor waste in a Turramurra laundry is an open door, and a cup of water down it once a week closes it.
Cockroaches walk through drains and then across benchtops, carrying bacteria mechanically rather than biting. For a Turramurra household with young children or anyone immunocompromised that is the real argument for treating properly.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Small, 12 to 15 mm, light brown, marked with two dark stripes behind the head. This is the indoor breeder: it wants warmth, food and damp, and a kitchen supplies all three.

Up to roughly 4 cm long and reddish-brown. You find it in sewers, pits, grease traps and under the floor, and it travels up through drains after dark rather than nesting indoors.

As big as the American but marked with pale yellow along the edge of the wings and behind the head. The name misleads: this one lives outside in mulch and garden beds and only comes indoors to look about.

A small banded cockroach that favours warmth and dryness rather than moisture. Look for it high up: behind frames, inside electrical enclosures and in cupboards well away from the sink.

One of our Sydney inspections, showing German cockroach activity. The harbourage itself tells the story: droppings, cast skins and egg cases give us both the species and the scale.

Taken on an Elite commercial job - harbourage inside the equipment itself. Motor cavities, door seals and hollow legs stay warm all night and rarely see a cloth.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| A dozen small cockroaches on the bench in broad daylight, with dark specks in the cupboard corners | German cockroach, already a heavy infestation | The hinge of a cupboard door, behind the dishwasher and fridge, the kickboard void, inside appliances | Bait rotation and a growth regulator, applied into cracks and crevices right through the kitchen |
| Big cockroaches at night in the wet areas, never a crowd of them in the kitchen | American cockroach | Down in the pits and the subfloor, coming up through floor wastes with no water in them | We treat the pits and drain lines and the subfloor, then seal where the pipes come through |
| Big cockroaches with pale yellow margins, usually in the garage or arriving from outside | Australian cockroach | Garden mulch, leaf litter, stacked firewood and the roof cavity | Perimeter treatment outside, dusting the roof void, and dealing with garden harbourage |
| Small ones in a bedroom or living room - behind a picture, inside the TV cabinet - not near water | Brown-banded cockroach | Furniture and electrical gear that stays warm and dry | Baiting aimed at the living and sleeping rooms rather than the kitchen |
| Cockroaches returning to a unit however often you treat your own kitchen | German cockroach crossing between units | Common service risers, bin rooms, and the wall cavities that link lots | Treatment coordinated building-wide. See strata pest control |

A German cockroach egg case holds around 30 eggs, and the female carries it until shortly before hatching. Killing adults on the surface leaves the next generation untouched.
A female will make several egg cases, and in kitchen warmth her young are breeding within weeks. Small numbers do not stay small.
Because they repel, bombs and aerosols spread the problem: deeper into the walls, into the neighbouring unit, and over the surfaces you prepare food on.
The allergen load - droppings, saliva, cast skins - is a recognised trigger for asthma and allergies, which is why clearing an infestation properly matters beyond the nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Step one is knowing which cockroach you have. Step two is finding where it shelters: torch and inspection mirror through hinges, appliance cavities, kickboards and wall voids.
We identify the build-up that is feeding them and tell you what to deal with first. The less competing food there is, the harder the bait works.
We place gel in precise dots along their travel routes rather than spraying. They feed, return to the harbourage, and the effect spreads through the population by contact and feeding.
The growth regulator keeps nymphs from ever breeding; dust handles the wall voids and cavities that no gel dot can reach.
The outdoor species need outdoor treatment - stormwater pits, floor wastes, under the floor and the roof cavity, which is where they actually live before they reach your kitchen.
We leave you a written record of the job. If it is still heavy at two weeks, or comes back inside the 6 months a general treatment carries, we return at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Effective on the one you are aiming at | Leaves egg cases and wall voids untouched, and scatters the rest further in |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers a whole room's open surfaces at once | Harbourage is untouched, benches end up with residue, and the population spreads out |
| Retail bait stations | Worth using when numbers are genuinely low | There is very little bait in them, and crumbs or grease will beat them every time |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Fed on inside the harbourage and shared through the colony, with the option to swap formulations | Only works with the food competition removed, and needs days to two weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops the young ever reaching breeding age, which ends the egg-case cycle | Acts slowly by design, so bait always goes in with it |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.
Expect activity to taper off. The bait dots in hinges and cracks need to stay put, and nothing should be sprayed over them - that is what makes cockroaches avoid bait.
Tell your agent or building manager if activity continues, as cockroaches often travel between lots. Our apartment pest control page explains building-wide options.
Call 1300 313 373 if activity is still steady after a fortnight, or if they come back within the 6 months a general treatment covers. The re-treatment is under warranty.
Council officers want records, not reassurance. For food premises around Turramurra we provide the treatment schedule, the products used, the monitoring point locations and the findings from each visit, in a form you can hand over.
The pattern we see across Turramurra and the wider Upper North Shore is a surge after the first properly warm week, then steady pressure until autumn. Treating before that surge is far cheaper than treating after it.
We are around Duff Street Reserve and the streets behind it most weeks, and we cover every address in 2074, not just the main roads.
Identify first, then treat: bait and growth regulator for German cockroaches, pit and subfloor work for the species that come up the drains.
Bait placed in cracks and hinges, not a blanket spray over food preparation surfaces.
Apartments through to commercial kitchens, with food businesses serviced when they are closed.
Six months on a general treatment - if they come back inside it, so do we, at no charge.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. Two things move it: how big the place is, and how far it has already spread. We work that out on the phone or on site and tell you the figure before anything starts in Turramurra. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
At roughly 16.8 km north-west of the city, Turramurra is on a route we run regularly. Same-day attendance is usually available. You will be given a time, not a window.
The reserve next door is a permanent population you cannot treat. All that is in question is how easily cockroaches cross from it into the building, which is a perimeter problem.
Detached houses on bush edges, where re-entry is the issue rather than the initial treatment.
Yes. We work in houses, units, strata blocks, rentals and commercial premises across Turramurra 2074, and we provide the written report agents and strata managers ask for.
Yes, when it is applied properly. We use registered products at label rates and tell you which areas to keep clear and for how long. Mention pets, fish tanks or allergies when you book.
Generally no. We will tell you on arrival if any part of the job means keeping out of a room for a while, so there are no surprises.
Allow an hour to two hours for most properties. A bigger building, or one where the problem has spread, takes longer - and we would rather tell you that when quoting than rush it.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. If it is not holding, call us - that is exactly what the warranty is for.
We cover the whole of Turramurra, from the streets around Duff Street Reserve out to the suburb boundary and on into Warrawee.
