Where Mount Kuring-gai sits, who covers it and what it costs.
If you are in Mount Kuring-gai or anywhere else in 2080, you are in our Upper North Shore patch, 25.3 km north of the CBD. We cover Mount Kuring-gai on scheduled runs through the Upper North Shore, and we will give you a firm time rather than a window.
Around Mount Kuring-gai we work the pockets near Asquith Golf Club, Mount Kuring-gai station and Mount Kuring-Gai Park most often, so the van is rarely far away when a job comes in.
The suburb sits in the Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby area. Mount Colah, Berowra and Berowra Heights are all covered on the same day, so a problem that has spread across a boundary can be handled in one visit. Bush edges keep re-supplying the problem, which is why we treat the boundary rather than only the interior.
Around Mount Kuring-gai the pattern is fairly consistent: homes on sloping blocks with a sub-floor and bush on the boundary. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
Berowra Valley National Park and the remainder of 2080 are on the same run.
Bookings for 2080 are confirmed the day before with a set arrival time, not an all-day window. Jobs at Mount Colah and Berowra often share the same run, which is how earlier slots come up.
Cockroaches do not respect a lease boundary. In a Mount Kuring-gai block they move through service risers, shared drains and the cavity between units, so treating one kitchen in a building with a problem is money spent on a holding pattern.
Two very different problems get called the same thing. Indoors and small means German cockroach and a resident population. Large and occasional means an outdoor species that walked in - and in Mount Kuring-gai that usually traces back to a drain, a vent or a gap under a door.
If cockroaches keep appearing in a Mount Kuring-gai bathroom rather than the kitchen, the drain is the first thing we check. They travel the pipework between units and come up wherever the seal has dried out.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

At 12 to 15 mm and light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, this is the species we find living permanently indoors. Warmth, food and moisture are all it needs, and it reproduces faster than any other cockroach here.

Reddish-brown and as long as 4 cm. It belongs to the drainage system - sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps, the subfloor - and arrives in the kitchen overnight from there.

Close to the American cockroach in size, with yellow edging near the head and down the wings. It belongs outdoors in gardens, mulch and subfloor areas, and enters the house rather than breeding in it.

A small cockroach with light bands across the body, found away from water in warm dry positions: behind frames, in electrical fittings, in cupboards at height.

One of our Sydney inspections, showing German cockroach activity. The harbourage itself tells the story: droppings, cast skins and egg cases give us both the species and the scale.

Photo from an Elite job: cockroach harbourage inside commercial kitchen equipment. Motor housings, door seals and hollow legs stay warm overnight and are rarely cleaned.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cockroaches barely 15 mm out in the open by day, with dark pepper-like specks where cupboards meet | German cockroach, and an established one | Inside hinges, appliance cavities, the kickboard void, the housings of the appliances themselves | Gel baits rotated through the job, a growth regulator, and crack-and-crevice application indoors |
| One or two large cockroaches at night near the laundry, bathroom or floor waste | American cockroach | Sewer and stormwater pits, subfloor, dry floor-waste traps | Drain and pit treatment, subfloor, sealing gaps around pipes |
| Big yellow-margined cockroaches that seem to come from the garden rather than the kitchen | Australian cockroach | Garden mulch, leaf litter and woodpiles, plus the roof cavity | Treating outside: the perimeter, the roof void, and the harbourage in the beds themselves |
| Small cockroaches turning up in bedrooms and living rooms, never around the sink | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry furniture, and the inside of electrical appliances | Bait placed through the living and sleeping areas where they actually are |
| A flat that clears for a fortnight and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach moving through the building | Shared risers, the bin room, and cavities running between walls | A coordinated treatment across the block. See strata pest control |

Roughly 30 eggs sit in a single case, and the female keeps it with her until it is nearly ready to hatch. Nothing you spray on a surface touches it.
A female will make several egg cases, and in kitchen warmth her young are breeding within weeks. Small numbers do not stay small.
Supermarket sprays and bombs repel. The colony moves further into the cavity, or next door, and your benchtops end up with residue on them.
What they leave behind matters: droppings, saliva and cast skins are known asthma and allergy triggers, so this is a health question as much as a comfort one.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Step one is knowing which cockroach you have. Step two is finding where it shelters: torch and inspection mirror through hinges, appliance cavities, kickboards and wall voids.
We identify the build-up that is feeding them and tell you what to deal with first. The less competing food there is, the harder the bait works.
Rather than spray, we put small amounts of gel exactly where they travel. They eat and return to shelter, and that is how the treatment reaches the ones you never see.
A growth regulator shuts down the next generation, and dust goes into the voids and cavities where gel simply cannot be placed.
Pits, floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void get treated for the American and Australian species - they come in from there, so that is where it has to be done.
A written summary comes with the job. Heavy activity still there after two weeks, or a return within 6 months of a general treatment, and we come back for nothing.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Deals with the individual in front of you | Never touches the egg cases or the voids, and drives the rest further into the walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Easy coverage of the exposed parts of a room | Never reaches the hiding places, leaves residue where you cook, and scatters them |
| Retail bait stations | Fine as a first step on a small problem | Not enough bait to matter, and any food left about is more attractive |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Fed on inside the harbourage and shared through the colony, with the option to swap formulations | Only works with the food competition removed, and needs days to two weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Prevents the young reaching breeding age, which ends the egg-case cycle | Slow by design, so we never use it on its own - it goes in with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Expect more sightings, not fewer - slow-moving cockroaches out in the open or dead on the floor. That is the bait and growth regulator taking effect. Sweep them up.
Expect activity to taper off. The bait dots in hinges and cracks need to stay put, and nothing should be sprayed over them - that is what makes cockroaches avoid bait.
If it keeps going, let the agent or building manager know - cockroaches move between units readily. There is more on co-ordinated work on our apartment pest control page.
Steady activity at the two-week mark, or a return inside 6 months of a general treatment, means a warranty re-treatment - ring 1300 313 373.
Humidity is the driver. In the Upper North Shore the summer months bring the fastest breeding, and the mild winters mean a population indoors never really slows - it just gets quieter.
For a Mount Kuring-gai cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
We are around Berowra Valley National Park and the streets behind it most weeks, and we cover every address in 2080, not just the main roads.
Treatment follows identification. Indoor German cockroaches need bait and a growth regulator; drain-dwelling species need the pits and subfloor treated.
Gel goes into the cracks and hinges. Nothing gets sprayed across the bench you prepare food on.
We cover everything from one apartment to a full commercial kitchen, scheduled around your trading hours.
A general treatment is covered for 6 months. Cockroaches inside that period mean a free return visit.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. The fixed price depends on the size of the property and how far the problem has spread, and we confirm it before we start - there is no call-out fee in Mount Kuring-gai 2080. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
We cover it on scheduled runs, so a day's notice gets you the best slot. Mount Kuring-gai is about 25.3 km north of the CBD in the Upper North Shore, and we give you a firm arrival time rather than an all-day window.
Undisturbed ground, leaf litter and fallen timber right to the boundary mean cockroaches are always established next to the house. Re-entry, not eradication, is what we are managing here.
Homes with sub-floors, roof voids and bush at the boundary - all three get inspected.
We do all of those. A good share of the Mount Kuring-gai jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
It is, as long as you follow what we tell you on the day - usually keeping off treated surfaces for a couple of hours. Let us know at booking about young children, pets or an aquarium.
Usually not. Most of the work is done with you in the house, and where a room does need to be clear it is for a short period we will tell you about on arrival.
Typically one to two hours on site. What extends it is size, access and how far the problem has gone, all of which are accounted for in the quote.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. If activity continues past the expected period, call us and we will come back.
All of them. Mount Kuring-gai sits alongside Mount Colah, Berowra, Berowra Heights and Hornsby Heights in our coverage, and they are serviced on the same schedule.
