Days 1 to 3
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.

What we cover in Denistone, and how quickly we can get there.
If you are in Denistone or anywhere else in 2114, you are in our Ryde & the Northern District patch, 13.6 km north-west of the CBD. We run Denistone on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
Most weeks we are somewhere between West Ryde Marketplace and Eastwood Shopping Centre in Denistone, and Denistone station is close enough to be on the same run.
Our runs through Denistone also take in West Ryde, Denistone West and Denistone East. Most of the housing here shares a wall, a roof void or a sub-floor with something else, so we check what adjoins the property rather than treating it in isolation.
The bulk of our Denistone work is older semis with a paved rear courtyard and a sub-floor that no longer dries out. Mention the detail when you call 1300 313 373 - it decides how long we need on site.
We also work the streets near West Ryde station and across toward Darvall Park - the whole of 2114 is covered.
Floor wastes, overflow pipes and the gap where a waste pipe passes through a cupboard base are all cockroach routes. A dry floor waste in a Denistone laundry is an open door, and a cup of water down it once a week closes it.
Remove the water and you remove most of the harbourage value. We point out the damp spots in a Denistone kitchen for that reason, not as a criticism of the cleaning.
Two very different problems get called the same thing. Indoors and small means German cockroach and a resident population. Large and occasional means an outdoor species that walked in - and in Denistone that usually traces back to a drain, a vent or a gap under a door.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, roughly 12 to 15 mm long. It lives indoors near warmth, food and moisture, and it is the species that breeds fastest inside a kitchen.

Large and reddish-brown, up to about 4 cm. It lives in sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps and subfloors, and comes up through drains at night rather than breeding in the kitchen.

Similar in size to the American cockroach, told apart by the yellow margins at the head and wing edges. An outdoor species - gardens, mulch, the subfloor - that makes its way in.

Small, with light bands across the back. Unlike the others it avoids damp, preferring warm dry places up high - behind wall hangings, inside appliance housings and in upper cupboards.

From one of our own inspections: German cockroach harbourage in a Sydney kitchen. The droppings, shed skins and egg cases are what we read to judge the species and the size of the population.

Taken on an Elite commercial job - harbourage inside the equipment itself. Motor cavities, door seals and hollow legs stay warm all night and rarely see a cloth.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daytime sightings near the sink, plus specks of droppings along the joins in cupboards | German cockroach - the one species that lives and breeds indoors | Hinges and drawer runners, the gap behind fridge and dishwasher, behind kickboards, inside motor housings | A bait rotation paired with a growth regulator, placed into cracks rather than sprayed about |
| A large cockroach or two after dark, always near a drain, the laundry or the bathroom | American cockroach | The sewer and stormwater pits, the subfloor, and floor-waste traps that have dried out | Pit and drain treatment, the subfloor, and sealing the gaps around pipe penetrations |
| Yellow-edged cockroaches in the garage, or coming through a door from the garden | Australian cockroach | Mulch and leaf litter, woodpiles, and the roof void | External perimeter, a dusting through the roof void, and clearing garden harbourage |
| Little cockroaches well away from the kitchen: bedrooms, the TV unit, behind wall hangings | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry spots in furniture and inside appliances | Bait placed where they actually are, in the living and sleeping areas |
| A flat that clears for a fortnight and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach moving through the building | Shared risers, the bin room, and cavities running between walls | A coordinated treatment across the block. See strata pest control |

A licensed Sydney technician will talk it through with you and give you a fixed quote within half an hour.
A German cockroach egg case holds about 30 eggs and travels with the female until hatching is close. Kill the adults you can see and the next generation still arrives.
A female will make several egg cases, and in kitchen warmth her young are breeding within weeks. Small numbers do not stay small.
A repellent product scatters rather than clears - deeper into the wall void, through to the unit next door - and leaves residue where food is prepared.
Cast skins, droppings and saliva are recognised asthma and allergy triggers, which makes a long-running infestation a health issue rather than just an annoyance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
We identify the species, then go looking with a torch and mirror - hinges, inside appliances, behind the kickboards, into the wall voids. What we find decides the treatment, not a set routine.
Where build-up is feeding them, you will get a short list of what to clean and the order to do it in - bait has to out-compete everything else available.
Rather than spray, we put small amounts of gel exactly where they travel. They eat and return to shelter, and that is how the treatment reaches the ones you never see.
An insect growth regulator stops nymphs becoming breeding adults, and dust goes into wall voids and cavities where gel cannot reach.
With American and Australian cockroaches the work is outside the kitchen: the pits, the floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void, because that is where they breed.
You get a written summary. If activity is still heavy after two weeks or returns within 6 months of a general treatment, we come back at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Kills the cockroach you can see | Does not reach egg cases or voids, and repels others deeper into walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers a whole room's open surfaces at once | Harbourage is untouched, benches end up with residue, and the population spreads out |
| Retail bait stations | Can help if you have only seen a few | The bait volume is small, and competing food such as grease wins out |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Fed on inside the harbourage and shared through the colony, with the option to swap formulations | Only works with the food competition removed, and needs days to two weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops nymphs maturing into breeding adults, which breaks the egg-case cycle | Works slowly, so it is always paired with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.
You should see a steady decline. Leave the gel where we put it in hinges and cracks, and keep your own insecticide away from it, or they will refuse to feed.
If it keeps going, let the agent or building manager know - cockroaches move between units readily. There is more on co-ordinated work on our apartment pest control page.
Ring 1300 313 373 for a warranty re-treatment if steady activity continues past two weeks, or if cockroaches return within 6 months of a general treatment.
We are around West Ryde Marketplace and the streets behind it most weeks, and we cover every address in 2114, not just the main roads.
The pattern we see across Denistone and the wider Ryde & the Northern District is a surge after the first properly warm week, then steady pressure until autumn. Treating before that surge is far cheaper than treating after it.
For a Denistone cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
Identify first, then treat: bait and growth regulator for German cockroaches, pit and subfloor work for the species that come up the drains.
Bait placed in cracks and hinges, not a blanket spray over food preparation surfaces.
Apartments through to commercial kitchens, with food businesses serviced when they are closed.
General treatments carry 6 months: a return within that window brings us back at no cost.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. Two things move it: how big the place is, and how far it has already spread. We work that out on the phone or on site and tell you the figure before anything starts in Denistone. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
Same-day attendance is usually available. We are about 13.6 km north-west of the city here, and Denistone is covered by the Ryde & the Northern District team.
Older inner suburbs combine shared structure with ageing drainage, and cockroaches exploit both. Rear courtyards that have been paved over make it worse by trapping damp against the walls.
Terraces and semis, often with a paved rear courtyard that traps damp against the wall - both of which shape the job.
We do all of those. A good share of the Denistone jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
It is, applied properly. We put product into cracks, voids and stations rather than across open surfaces, and we will tell you what to stay off and for how long before we leave.
Most of the time you can carry on as normal. If a particular area needs to be empty we will flag it when we arrive and it is rarely more than a couple of hours.
An hour to two hours covers most jobs. The size of the building and the extent of the problem are what change it.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. That is the point of the warranty - you do not pay twice for the same problem.
We cover the whole of Denistone, from the streets around West Ryde Marketplace out to the suburb boundary and on into West Ryde.
