Days 1 to 3
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.

Local technicians, fixed prices and a written report for every job in Cecil Park.
We treat cockroaches right across 2178. Cecil Park is roughly 34.3 km west of the city, which puts it well inside the South West Sydney run our technicians work. We cover Cecil Park on scheduled runs through the South West Sydney, and we will give you a firm time rather than a window.
A good share of our Cecil Park work is in the streets around Edensor Park Plaza and Kemps Creek Nature Reserve.
The suburb sits in the Liverpool, Fairfield and Cumberland area. Cecil Hills, Abbotsbury and Horsley Park are all covered on the same day, so a problem that has spread across a boundary can be handled in one visit. On a newer estate the houses are near-identical and tightly spaced, which means a problem in one tends to turn up in the ones either side.
Cecil Park jobs tend to be estate houses with narrow side access and a shared fence line. Let us know which when you ring and we will plan the visit around it.
Wherever you are in 2178, you are inside the area our technicians cover.
You get a confirmed time, not a window. We plan the 2178 run the day before, and if Cecil Hills or Abbotsbury is on the same round there is often an earlier slot going.
People assume it is about crumbs. It is mostly about moisture. The leaking waste under a Cecil Park sink, condensation behind the fridge or a shower recess that never dries will hold a population on its own.
Get the species wrong and the treatment fails. The small ones breeding under your Cecil Park sink want gel bait placed where they feed. The big ones wandering in from the garden want a perimeter barrier. Doing the second when you needed the first wastes the visit.
If cockroaches keep appearing in a Cecil Park bathroom rather than the kitchen, the drain is the first thing we check. They travel the pipework between units and come up wherever the seal has dried out.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

At 12 to 15 mm and light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, this is the species we find living permanently indoors. Warmth, food and moisture are all it needs, and it reproduces faster than any other cockroach here.

Large and reddish-brown, up to about 4 cm. It lives in sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps and subfloors, and comes up through drains at night rather than breeding in the kitchen.

Similar in size to the American cockroach but with pale yellow edges near the head and along the wings. Despite the name it is an outdoor species that comes in from gardens, mulch and subfloors.

A small banded cockroach that favours warmth and dryness rather than moisture. Look for it high up: behind frames, inside electrical enclosures and in cupboards well away from the sink.

Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cockroaches barely 15 mm out in the open by day, with dark pepper-like specks where cupboards meet | German cockroach, and an established one | Inside hinges, appliance cavities, the kickboard void, the housings of the appliances themselves | Gel baits rotated through the job, a growth regulator, and crack-and-crevice application indoors |
| A single big one after dark by the laundry tub, the bathroom or a floor drain | American cockroach | Stormwater and sewer pits, the space under the floor, floor wastes that have dried out | Treating the pits and drains, the subfloor, and sealing the gaps where pipes pass through |
| Large cockroaches with yellow edging, seen in the garage or coming in from the garden | Australian cockroach | Mulch, leaf litter, woodpiles, roof void | External perimeter, roof void dusting, garden harbourage |
| Little cockroaches well away from the kitchen: bedrooms, the TV unit, behind wall hangings | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry spots in furniture and inside appliances | Bait placed where they actually are, in the living and sleeping areas |
| Cockroaches in a unit that keep returning weeks after your own treatment | German cockroach moving between units | Shared service risers, bin rooms and wall cavities | A coordinated building treatment. See strata pest control |

A German cockroach egg case holds about 30 eggs and travels with the female until hatching is close. Kill the adults you can see and the next generation still arrives.
Each female can produce several egg cases in her life, and the young mature in weeks in a warm kitchen. A few cockroaches become an infestation quickly.
A repellent product scatters rather than clears - deeper into the wall void, through to the unit next door - and leaves residue where food is prepared.
Cast skins, droppings and saliva are recognised asthma and allergy triggers, which makes a long-running infestation a health issue rather than just an annoyance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Species confirmation comes first, then the search. Torch and inspection mirror into cupboard hinges, appliance housings, the kickboard void and the wall cavity, so the treatment is aimed rather than general.
Where build-up is feeding them, you will get a short list of what to clean and the order to do it in - bait has to out-compete everything else available.
Rather than spray, we put small amounts of gel exactly where they travel. They eat and return to shelter, and that is how the treatment reaches the ones you never see.
A growth regulator prevents the young reaching breeding age, while dust treats the wall voids and cavities that gel placement cannot get into.
The outdoor species need outdoor treatment - stormwater pits, floor wastes, under the floor and the roof cavity, which is where they actually live before they reach your kitchen.
You get a written summary. If activity is still heavy after two weeks or returns within 6 months of a general treatment, we come back at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Quick on a cockroach you can actually reach | No effect on egg cases or harbourage, and it pushes the others deeper into cavities |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers open surfaces in a room | Misses harbourage, leaves residue on benches, and can scatter the colony |
| Retail bait stations | Has a place when you have only seen one or two | Very little bait in each, and any crumbs or grease will out-compete it |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Carried home and shared where they shelter; if they start refusing one gel we rotate to another | Requires a clean kitchen and patience - days to a couple of weeks, not overnight |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops the next generation maturing, breaking the cycle of egg cases | Deliberately slow, so bait does the knockdown alongside it |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.
Through the second week activity should fall away. Leave the bait in place in hinges and cracks, and resist spraying anything over it, which puts cockroaches off feeding.
If it keeps going, let the agent or building manager know - cockroaches move between units readily. There is more on co-ordinated work on our apartment pest control page.
Two weeks on and still seeing them regularly, or back inside 6 months of a general treatment? That is a warranty call - 1300 313 373.
Cockroaches do not respect a lease boundary. In a Cecil Park block they move through service risers, shared drains and the cavity between units, so treating one kitchen in a building with a problem is money spent on a holding pattern.
Humidity is the driver. In the South West Sydney the summer months bring the fastest breeding, and the mild winters mean a population indoors never really slows - it just gets quieter.
Council officers want records, not reassurance. For food premises around Cecil Park we provide the treatment schedule, the products used, the monitoring point locations and the findings from each visit, in a form you can hand over.
The species sets the method - gel and growth regulator indoors for German cockroaches, pits and subfloor for the drain dwellers.
Gel baits in cracks and hinges, not blanket spraying across benches where you prepare food.
One flat or a whole commercial kitchen - food premises are done outside trading hours.
General treatments carry 6 months: a return within that window brings us back at no cost.
