Postcode 2213 covers Panania and the streets immediately around it. At about 21.5 km south-west of the CBD it falls in the Canterbury-Bankstown, where we have vans out daily. We run Panania on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
Around Panania we work the pockets near Revesby station, Amour Park and Bruce Park most often, so the van is rarely far away when a job comes in.
This is the Canterbury-Bankstown area, and our runs here also take in East Hills, Picnic Point and Revesby Heights. Terraces, semis and converted blocks share cavities and risers, which is why a single-unit treatment often does not hold on its own.
Around Panania the pattern is fairly consistent: apartments and converted blocks where the kitchen backs onto a service riser. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
Georges River National Park and Revesby Village Centre are on the same round, which means every part of 2213 is within our area.
When you book, we confirm the 2213 run the day before and give you an arrival time rather than a window. If we are already out at East Hills or Picnic Point that morning, we will usually offer you the earlier slot.
Cockroaches avoid light, so seeing one in daylight is not a chance encounter - it usually means the harbourage is crowded enough to push individuals out into the open. A daytime sighting in a Panania kitchen is a sign of scale, not bad luck.
A large German cockroach population has a distinct musty, oily smell that gets into cupboards, drawer liners and anything cardboard. It comes from their droppings and secretions, and it lingers until the harbourage itself is cleaned out.
Get the species wrong and the treatment fails. The small ones breeding under your Panania sink want gel bait placed where they feed. The big ones wandering in from the garden want a perimeter barrier. Doing the second when you needed the first wastes the visit.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Around 12 to 15 mm, light brown, two dark stripes running back from the head. It never really leaves the building - warmth, a food source and a little moisture keep it going, and it out-breeds every other cockroach in a kitchen.

Reddish-brown and as long as 4 cm. It belongs to the drainage system - sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps, the subfloor - and arrives in the kitchen overnight from there.

About the same size as the American, distinguished by pale yellow margins behind the head and along the wing edges. It is an outdoor cockroach - mulch, garden beds and subfloors - that wanders inside.

A small cockroach with light bands across the body, found away from water in warm dry positions: behind frames, in electrical fittings, in cupboards at height.

An Elite job photo of German cockroach activity on a Sydney inspection. Egg cases, shed skins and droppings in the harbourage are how we work out what we are dealing with.

Taken on an Elite commercial job - harbourage inside the equipment itself. Motor cavities, door seals and hollow legs stay warm all night and rarely see a cloth.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daytime sightings near the sink, plus specks of droppings along the joins in cupboards | German cockroach - the one species that lives and breeds indoors | Hinges and drawer runners, the gap behind fridge and dishwasher, behind kickboards, inside motor housings | A bait rotation paired with a growth regulator, placed into cracks rather than sprayed about |
| A single big one after dark by the laundry tub, the bathroom or a floor drain | American cockroach | Stormwater and sewer pits, the space under the floor, floor wastes that have dried out | Treating the pits and drains, the subfloor, and sealing the gaps where pipes pass through |
| Sizeable cockroaches with pale edging that appear in the garage or at a back door | Australian cockroach | Leaf litter and mulch, stacked timber, and the roof cavity | Treating the perimeter, dusting the roof void, and reducing harbourage in the garden |
| Little banded cockroaches behind a picture frame or inside the TV unit, away from any water | Brown-banded cockroach | Dry warm spots in furniture and inside electrical gear | Targeted baiting in the rooms you live and sleep in, not the kitchen |
| A unit where the problem never quite ends, weeks after a DIY attempt | German cockroach spreading from a neighbouring lot | Shared risers and bin rooms, plus the cavities inside shared walls | A building-wide, coordinated treatment. See strata pest control |

Each German cockroach egg case carries roughly 30 eggs and stays with the female almost until they hatch. Surface sprays never reach it, so the following generation arrives regardless.
Several egg cases per female, and nymphs maturing in weeks where it is warm - the arithmetic is why cockroach numbers climb so steeply once they are established.
Because they repel, bombs and aerosols spread the problem: deeper into the walls, into the neighbouring unit, and over the surfaces you prepare food on.
Droppings, saliva and shed skins are established asthma and allergy triggers. An infestation left in place is a health problem, not only an unpleasant one.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
First we establish which cockroach it is, then map where it lives - torch and mirror into hinges, motor cavities, behind kickboards and into wall voids. Everything after this depends on that map.
Grease and food residue keep a colony going, so we show you the spots that matter most. Bait only wins if it is the best meal in the room.
Small dots of professional gel bait go into the cracks cockroaches travel through. They eat, return to harbourage and the effect passes through the population.
Two products with different jobs: the growth regulator stops nymphs maturing, and dust carries the treatment into voids and cavities beyond the reach of gel.
With American and Australian cockroaches the work is outside the kitchen: the pits, the floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void, because that is where they breed.
You get a written summary. If activity is still heavy after two weeks or returns within 6 months of a general treatment, we come back at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Takes care of the one in front of you | Does nothing to egg cases or voids, and drives the rest deeper into the walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Reaches open floor and bench area without effort | Misses the harbourage entirely, leaves residue where you prepare food, and disperses them |
| Retail bait stations | Has a place when you have only seen one or two | Very little bait in each, and any crumbs or grease will out-compete it |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Taken into the harbourage and shared around; if they tire of one gel we change it | Needs the kitchen clean behind it, and works over days rather than hours |
| Insect growth regulator | Prevents nymphs maturing, so the cycle of egg cases stops | Slow on its own, which is why it is never used without bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.

You should see a steady decline. Leave the gel where we put it in hinges and cracks, and keep your own insecticide away from it, or they will refuse to feed.
Keep the agent or building manager informed if it does not settle; cockroaches travel between flats. Our apartment pest control page covers the options for a whole block.

The pattern we see across Panania and the wider Canterbury-Bankstown is a surge after the first properly warm week, then steady pressure until autumn. Treating before that surge is far cheaper than treating after it.
Cockroaches do not respect a lease boundary. In a Panania block they move through service risers, shared drains and the cavity between units, so treating one kitchen in a building with a problem is money spent on a holding pattern.
In older Panania buildings a cockroach population can live entirely in the drain line and come up at night. Treating the kitchen and ignoring the pipework means you are treating the visitors, not the residents.
Treatment follows identification. Indoor German cockroaches need bait and a growth regulator; drain-dwelling species need the pits and subfloor treated.
Bait placed in cracks and hinges, not a blanket spray over food preparation surfaces.
We cover everything from one apartment to a full commercial kitchen, scheduled around your trading hours.

Same-day attendance is usually available. We are about 21.5 km south-west of the city here, and Panania is covered by the Canterbury-Bankstown team.
These houses were built joined together, and they have aged that way. Party walls, continuous roof voids and shared drainage give cockroaches a route your front door has no bearing on.
Terraces and semis, often with a paved rear courtyard that traps damp against the wall - both of which shape the job.
We do. A lot of our Panania work is rentals and strata, so the report, the products used and the areas treated are all recorded in writing for whoever needs them.
It is, provided the instructions are followed. We will tell you what to keep clear of and for how long before we leave. Let us know about children, pets or fish tanks when you book.
Usually not. Most cockroach control work is done with you there, and anything that needs the room vacated is for a short period we will tell you about beforehand.
Usually between one and two hours on site. Bigger properties and heavier infestations take more, and that is included in the quote rather than added afterwards.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. If activity continues past the expected period, call us and we will come back.
Yes - we work right across the Canterbury-Bankstown area, which takes in Panania and the suburbs around it.
