Lurnea sits about 29.3 km west of the CBD in the South West Sydney, and postcode 2170 is one we are in most weeks. We cover Lurnea on scheduled runs through the South West Sydney, and we will give you a firm time rather than a window.
The Lurnea addresses we attend cluster around Munro Park and Baker Park. Elouera Bushland Reserve is another part of the suburb we are called to often.
Liverpool, Fairfield and Cumberland is the council area for Lurnea, and we treat Cartwright, Liverpool and Sadleir on the same schedule. Estate blocks are compact with narrow side passages, so access and the perimeter are where most of the work happens.
Lurnea jobs tend to be recently built homes where the activity started at the boundary. Let us know which when you ring and we will plan the visit around it.
The rest of 2170 is covered too, including the pockets around Westfield Liverpool and Casula Mall.
We confirm your slot the day before and arrive at a stated time. Cartwright and Liverpool sit on the same run, so earlier appointments in 2170 come up regularly.
Cockroach calls climb from October and peak through February, because warmth shortens the time a nymph needs to reach breeding age. The same population that was manageable in a Lurnea kitchen in winter can double over a hot month.
The egg case is what beats most people. Forty young in a case the female keeps with her until hatching is close, and nothing you spray on a surface gets near it. A Lurnea kitchen can go quiet for two weeks and then be busier than before.
A cockroach can last weeks on almost nothing to eat but only days without water. That is why perfectly clean Lurnea kitchens still get them: a dripping tap, a sweating pipe or a damp dishwasher seal is enough.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, roughly 12 to 15 mm long. It lives indoors near warmth, food and moisture, and it is the species that breeds fastest inside a kitchen.

Large and reddish-brown, up to about 4 cm. It lives in sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps and subfloors, and comes up through drains at night rather than breeding in the kitchen.

As big as the American but marked with pale yellow along the edge of the wings and behind the head. The name misleads: this one lives outside in mulch and garden beds and only comes indoors to look about.

A small banded cockroach that favours warmth and dryness rather than moisture. Look for it high up: behind frames, inside electrical enclosures and in cupboards well away from the sink.

An Elite inspection photo showing German cockroach activity in Sydney. What we look for is the evidence - droppings, cast skins, egg cases - because it identifies the species and how long it has been there.

Photo from an Elite job: cockroach harbourage inside commercial kitchen equipment. Motor housings, door seals and hollow legs stay warm overnight and are rarely cleaned.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches moving about in daylight, and droppings like ground pepper along shelf edges | German cockroach, well established by the time they show in the day | Door hinges, the voids behind white goods, the kickboard space, the inside of appliances | Indoor work: bait rotation, a growth regulator, and placement into every crack and crevice |
| Big cockroaches at night in the wet areas, never a crowd of them in the kitchen | American cockroach | Down in the pits and the subfloor, coming up through floor wastes with no water in them | We treat the pits and drain lines and the subfloor, then seal where the pipes come through |
| Sizeable cockroaches with pale edging that appear in the garage or at a back door | Australian cockroach | Leaf litter and mulch, stacked timber, and the roof cavity | Treating the perimeter, dusting the roof void, and reducing harbourage in the garden |
| Little banded cockroaches behind a picture frame or inside the TV unit, away from any water | Brown-banded cockroach | Dry warm spots in furniture and inside electrical gear | Targeted baiting in the rooms you live and sleep in, not the kitchen |
| A unit that goes quiet for a couple of weeks and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach coming through from another lot | The risers, bin room and wall cavities the units have in common | A treatment coordinated across the building. See strata pest control |

One call to a licensed Sydney technician gets you honest advice and a fixed quote within 30 minutes.
A German cockroach egg case holds around 30 eggs, and the female carries it until shortly before hatching. Killing adults on the surface leaves the next generation untouched.
Each female can produce several egg cases in her life, and the young mature in weeks in a warm kitchen. A few cockroaches become an infestation quickly.
Supermarket sprays and bombs repel. The colony moves further into the cavity, or next door, and your benchtops end up with residue on them.
Cast skins, droppings and saliva are recognised asthma and allergy triggers, which makes a long-running infestation a health issue rather than just an annoyance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
First we establish which cockroach it is, then map where it lives - torch and mirror into hinges, motor cavities, behind kickboards and into wall voids. Everything after this depends on that map.
Where grease or food build-up is feeding the colony, we show you what to clean first. Bait works far better when it is the most attractive food in the room.
Dots of professional gel are placed in the cracks they run through. One feeds, carries it back to the harbourage, and it works through the colony from the inside.
A growth regulator shuts down the next generation, and dust goes into the voids and cavities where gel simply cannot be placed.
American and Australian cockroaches are treated at source: pits, floor wastes, subfloor and roof void. Treating the kitchen alone just handles the ones that already made it in.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Quick on a cockroach you can actually reach | No effect on egg cases or harbourage, and it pushes the others deeper into cavities |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Reaches open floor and bench area without effort | Misses the harbourage entirely, leaves residue where you prepare food, and disperses them |
| Retail bait stations | A sensible first try on a light problem | Bait volume is too low for a colony, and competing food beats it |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Taken back into the harbourage and passed on; we can change formulation if they go off one | Wants a clean kitchen behind it, and takes days to a fortnight rather than minutes |
| Insect growth regulator | Blocks nymphs from maturing into breeders and shuts the egg-case cycle down | Takes time to show, so it is always applied together with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Cockroaches coming out in daylight and moving sluggishly is the normal first sign. The bait and growth regulator are working. Sweep up what you find and carry on.
Numbers should drop away through this period. Do not wipe the bait out of hinges and cracks, and do not spray over it - cockroaches will stop taking bait that has been sprayed.
Tell your agent or building manager if activity continues, as cockroaches often travel between lots. Our apartment pest control page explains building-wide options.
Ring 1300 313 373 for a warranty re-treatment if steady activity continues past two weeks, or if cockroaches return within 6 months of a general treatment.
If cockroaches keep appearing in a Lurnea bathroom rather than the kitchen, the drain is the first thing we check. They travel the pipework between units and come up wherever the seal has dried out.
Where Lurnea housing shares walls and roof voids - semis, terraces, unit blocks - the population is usually shared too. We say so up front rather than treating one flat and letting you discover it a month later.
We are around Westfield Liverpool and the streets behind it most weeks, and we cover every address in 2170, not just the main roads.
What we use depends on what you have: baits and growth regulators for German cockroaches, pit and subfloor treatment for the drain species.
Gel goes into the cracks and hinges. Nothing gets sprayed across the bench you prepare food on.
Apartments through to commercial kitchens, with food businesses serviced when they are closed.
A general treatment is covered for 6 months. Cockroaches inside that period mean a free return visit.
