Days 1 to 3
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.

Postcode 2068 covers Willoughby and the streets immediately around it. At about 6.9 km north of the CBD it falls in the Lower North Shore, where we have vans out daily. Our technicians are through Willoughby most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
A lot of our Willoughby jobs are in the streets around Harold Reid Reserve and Northbridge Plaza, and we are out near Northbridge Golf Club regularly enough that the technician usually knows the access before they arrive.
This is the North Sydney, Mosman, Willoughby, Lane Cove and Hunters Hill area, and our runs here also take in Willoughby East, Naremburn and Artarmon. Period homes near the harbour tend to have sub-floors, original timber and gardens running down to the boundary, so the inspection covers well beyond the kitchen.
The bulk of our Willoughby work is waterfront and near-waterfront homes with damp sub-floors and mature gardens. Mention the detail when you call 1300 313 373 - it decides how long we need on site.
We also work the streets near Artarmon station and across toward Sanders Park - the whole of 2068 is covered.
When you book, we confirm the 2068 run the day before and give you an arrival time rather than a window. If we are already out at Willoughby East or Naremburn that morning, we will usually offer you the earlier slot.
The whole job is finding where they shelter. We go looking for what stays warm overnight and never gets wiped: inside appliance housings, under drawer bases, around cable entries, behind the kickboard in a Willoughby kitchen.
Roughly forty juveniles come out of one case, and they are breeding themselves inside ten weeks. Unless a Willoughby treatment carries something that stops nymphs maturing, you are only ever resetting the clock.
Cockroaches walk through drains and then across benchtops, carrying bacteria mechanically rather than biting. For a Willoughby household with young children or anyone immunocompromised that is the real argument for treating properly.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, roughly 12 to 15 mm long. It lives indoors near warmth, food and moisture, and it is the species that breeds fastest inside a kitchen.

The largest one we deal with, around 4 cm and reddish-brown. Pits, sewers, grease traps and subfloors are where it breeds; the kitchen is somewhere it passes through at night.

About the same size as the American, distinguished by pale yellow margins behind the head and along the wing edges. It is an outdoor cockroach - mulch, garden beds and subfloors - that wanders inside.

Small, with light bands across the back. Unlike the others it avoids damp, preferring warm dry places up high - behind wall hangings, inside appliance housings and in upper cupboards.

An Elite job photo of German cockroach activity on a Sydney inspection. Egg cases, shed skins and droppings in the harbourage are how we work out what we are dealing with.

Taken on an Elite commercial job - harbourage inside the equipment itself. Motor cavities, door seals and hollow legs stay warm all night and rarely see a cloth.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches in the kitchen during the day, plus pepper-like droppings in cupboard corners | German cockroach, usually a heavy infestation | Hinges, dishwasher and fridge cavities, behind the kickboards, inside appliances | Gel bait rotation, growth regulator and crack-and-crevice treatment inside |
| A large cockroach or two after dark, always near a drain, the laundry or the bathroom | American cockroach | The sewer and stormwater pits, the subfloor, and floor-waste traps that have dried out | Pit and drain treatment, the subfloor, and sealing the gaps around pipe penetrations |
| Large ones marked with yellow near the head, found in the garage or wandering in from the yard | Australian cockroach | Mulched beds, leaf litter, woodpiles, and the roof space above | Work outside: the perimeter, the roof void, and the harbourage in the garden itself |
| Small cockroaches found upstairs or in bedrooms rather than around the sink | Brown-banded cockroach | Dry, warm furniture and the inside of electrical appliances | Targeted bait placement through living and sleeping spaces |
| Cockroaches in a unit that keep returning weeks after your own treatment | German cockroach moving between units | Shared service risers, bin rooms and wall cavities | A coordinated building treatment. See strata pest control |

One call to a licensed Sydney technician gets you honest advice and a fixed quote within 30 minutes.
Roughly 30 eggs sit in a single case, and the female keeps it with her until it is nearly ready to hatch. Nothing you spray on a surface touches it.
Several egg cases per female, and nymphs maturing in weeks where it is warm - the arithmetic is why cockroach numbers climb so steeply once they are established.
Supermarket sprays and bombs repel. The colony moves further into the cavity, or next door, and your benchtops end up with residue on them.
The allergen load - droppings, saliva, cast skins - is a recognised trigger for asthma and allergies, which is why clearing an infestation properly matters beyond the nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
We identify the species, then go looking with a torch and mirror - hinges, inside appliances, behind the kickboards, into the wall voids. What we find decides the treatment, not a set routine.
We identify the build-up that is feeding them and tell you what to deal with first. The less competing food there is, the harder the bait works.
Dots of professional gel are placed in the cracks they run through. One feeds, carries it back to the harbourage, and it works through the colony from the inside.
A growth regulator prevents the young reaching breeding age, while dust treats the wall voids and cavities that gel placement cannot get into.
Pits, floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void get treated for the American and Australian species - they come in from there, so that is where it has to be done.
Everything is recorded in writing. Still seeing heavy activity after a fortnight, or it returns inside the 6-month warranty on a general treatment? We return at no cost.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Effective on the one you are aiming at | Leaves egg cases and wall voids untouched, and scatters the rest further in |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Puts product across everything out in the open | Does not get into harbourage, coats your benchtops, and can split the colony up |
| Retail bait stations | A sensible first try on a light problem | Bait volume is too low for a colony, and competing food beats it |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Taken into the harbourage and shared around; if they tire of one gel we change it | Needs the kitchen clean behind it, and works over days rather than hours |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops the young ever reaching breeding age, which ends the egg-case cycle | Acts slowly by design, so bait always goes in with it |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.
Activity should fall steadily. Leave bait spots in hinges and cracks alone, and avoid spraying your own insecticide over them, which can make cockroaches refuse the bait.
Still seeing them? Tell the agent or building manager, since the source is often a neighbouring lot. Apartment pest control explains what a building-wide job involves.
Call 1300 313 373 if activity is still steady after a fortnight, or if they come back within the 6 months a general treatment covers. The re-treatment is under warranty.
Council officers want records, not reassurance. For food premises around Willoughby we provide the treatment schedule, the products used, the monitoring point locations and the findings from each visit, in a form you can hand over.
A good share of our Willoughby work sits close to Harold Reid Reserve, though the back streets and the Willoughby East boundary are just as familiar.
Sydney does not give cockroaches an off-season. Around Willoughby the warm, humid stretch from October through March drives breeding hardest, but a heated Lower North Shore home keeps a kitchen population going through winter without pause.
Treatment follows identification. Indoor German cockroaches need bait and a growth regulator; drain-dwelling species need the pits and subfloor treated.
Gel baits in cracks and hinges, not blanket spraying across benches where you prepare food.
We cover everything from one apartment to a full commercial kitchen, scheduled around your trading hours.
A general treatment is covered for 6 months. Cockroaches inside that period mean a free return visit.
