Days 1 to 3
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.

Local technicians, fixed prices and a written report for every job in Artarmon.
If you are in Artarmon or anywhere else in 2064, you are in our Lower North Shore patch, 7.1 km north of the CBD. Our technicians are through Artarmon most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
If you are near Artarmon Village Green, Blue Gum Reserve or Westfield Chatswood, that is ground we cover constantly - it is the busiest part of Artarmon for us.
Under North Sydney, Mosman, Willoughby, Lane Cove and Hunters Hill, we cover Artarmon and Willoughby, Chatswood and Lane Cove North alike. Period homes near the harbour tend to have sub-floors, original timber and gardens running down to the boundary, so the inspection covers well beyond the kitchen.
The bulk of our Artarmon work is period houses and converted blocks where the lower level is the problem. Mention the detail when you call 1300 313 373 - it decides how long we need on site.
Lane Cove Country Club and Artarmon station are on the same round, which means every part of 2064 is within our area.
You get a confirmed time, not a window. We plan the 2064 run the day before, and if Willoughby or Chatswood is on the same round there is often an earlier slot going.
Worth knowing before you blame yourself: this species is almost always introduced. Flatten cardboard rather than storing it, and check any used appliance before it comes inside.
Cockroaches do not respect a lease boundary. In a Artarmon block they move through service risers, shared drains and the cavity between units, so treating one kitchen in a building with a problem is money spent on a holding pattern.
Cockroaches walk through drains and then across benchtops, carrying bacteria mechanically rather than biting. For a Artarmon household with young children or anyone immunocompromised that is the real argument for treating properly.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Around 12 to 15 mm, light brown, two dark stripes running back from the head. It never really leaves the building - warmth, a food source and a little moisture keep it going, and it out-breeds every other cockroach in a kitchen.

Reddish-brown and as long as 4 cm. It belongs to the drainage system - sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps, the subfloor - and arrives in the kitchen overnight from there.

As big as the American but marked with pale yellow along the edge of the wings and behind the head. The name misleads: this one lives outside in mulch and garden beds and only comes indoors to look about.

A small banded cockroach that favours warmth and dryness rather than moisture. Look for it high up: behind frames, inside electrical enclosures and in cupboards well away from the sink.

One of our Sydney inspections, showing German cockroach activity. The harbourage itself tells the story: droppings, cast skins and egg cases give us both the species and the scale.

From a commercial kitchen we service: cockroach harbourage inside the machinery. Hollow legs, door seals and motor housings keep their heat overnight and are almost never cleaned.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daytime sightings near the sink, plus specks of droppings along the joins in cupboards | German cockroach - the one species that lives and breeds indoors | Hinges and drawer runners, the gap behind fridge and dishwasher, behind kickboards, inside motor housings | A bait rotation paired with a growth regulator, placed into cracks rather than sprayed about |
| Large cockroaches turning up at night around wet areas, usually one at a time | American cockroach | The pit system, the subfloor, and any floor-waste trap that has lost its water seal | Pit and drain work, subfloor treatment, and closing off pipe penetrations |
| Yellow-edged cockroaches in the garage, or coming through a door from the garden | Australian cockroach | Mulch and leaf litter, woodpiles, and the roof void | External perimeter, a dusting through the roof void, and clearing garden harbourage |
| Little banded cockroaches behind a picture frame or inside the TV unit, away from any water | Brown-banded cockroach | Dry warm spots in furniture and inside electrical gear | Targeted baiting in the rooms you live and sleep in, not the kitchen |
| An apartment where they come back a few weeks after you treated it yourself | German cockroach travelling between lots | The service risers, the bin room and the wall cavities the units share | Treating the building as one job. See strata pest control |

A German cockroach egg case holds about 30 eggs and travels with the female until hatching is close. Kill the adults you can see and the next generation still arrives.
A female will make several egg cases, and in kitchen warmth her young are breeding within weeks. Small numbers do not stay small.
Foggers and retail sprays drive the population further into cavities and across into neighbouring units, while leaving residue on the surfaces you cook on.
Cockroach droppings, saliva and cast skins are recognised triggers for allergies and asthma, so a lingering infestation is a health issue as well as a nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Step one is knowing which cockroach you have. Step two is finding where it shelters: torch and inspection mirror through hinges, appliance cavities, kickboards and wall voids.
Where build-up is feeding them, you will get a short list of what to clean and the order to do it in - bait has to out-compete everything else available.
Small dots of professional gel bait go into the cracks cockroaches travel through. They eat, return to harbourage and the effect passes through the population.
A growth regulator prevents the young reaching breeding age, while dust treats the wall voids and cavities that gel placement cannot get into.
Pits, floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void get treated for the American and Australian species - they come in from there, so that is where it has to be done.
We leave you a written record of the job. If it is still heavy at two weeks, or comes back inside the 6 months a general treatment carries, we return at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Works on a cockroach you can actually see | Egg cases and harbourage are untouched, and it repels the others further in |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers a whole room's open surfaces at once | Harbourage is untouched, benches end up with residue, and the population spreads out |
| Retail bait stations | Can help if you have only seen a few | The bait volume is small, and competing food such as grease wins out |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Carried home and shared where they shelter; if they start refusing one gel we rotate to another | Requires a clean kitchen and patience - days to a couple of weeks, not overnight |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops nymphs maturing into breeding adults, which breaks the egg-case cycle | Works slowly, so it is always paired with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.
Through the second week activity should fall away. Leave the bait in place in hinges and cracks, and resist spraying anything over it, which puts cockroaches off feeding.
Where activity continues, raise it with your agent or strata manager, because they cross between lots. See apartment pest control for how a building-wide treatment runs.
Two weeks on and still seeing them regularly, or back inside 6 months of a general treatment? That is a warranty call - 1300 313 373.
Humidity is the driver. In the Lower North Shore the summer months bring the fastest breeding, and the mild winters mean a population indoors never really slows - it just gets quieter.
A cockroach sighting in a Artarmon food business is a compliance problem before it is a pest problem. The program we run is built so the paperwork exists before anyone asks for it.
A good share of our Artarmon work sits close to Blue Gum Reserve, though the back streets and the Willoughby boundary are just as familiar.
What we use depends on what you have: baits and growth regulators for German cockroaches, pit and subfloor treatment for the drain species.
Precise gel placement into cracks and hinges rather than spraying the surfaces you cook on.
One flat or a whole commercial kitchen - food premises are done outside trading hours.
Six months on a general treatment - if they come back inside it, so do we, at no charge.

Same-day attendance is usually available. We are about 7.1 km north of the city here, and Artarmon is covered by the Lower North Shore team.
Established gardens, original timber and sub-floors that no longer breathe - that is the profile of a harbourside house, and it suits cockroaches very well.
Large older homes and converted apartments, with damp lower levels the recurring theme.
We do. A lot of our Artarmon work is rentals and strata, so the report, the products used and the areas treated are all recorded in writing for whoever needs them.
Yes, applied correctly. Products are registered for this use, placed out of reach rather than across open surfaces, and you will know what to stay off and for how long.
You do not normally need to leave. Anything requiring an empty room is short, and you will know about it before the work starts.
Allow one to two hours for a typical Artarmon property. Larger homes, or ones where the problem has spread, take longer and we will say so when we quote.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. If it is not holding, call us - that is exactly what the warranty is for.
Yes. As well as Artarmon we cover Willoughby, Chatswood, Lane Cove North and Lane Cove on the same runs, so a job that crosses a boundary can be handled in one visit.
