Expect more sightings, not fewer - slow-moving cockroaches out in the open or dead on the floor. That is the bait and growth regulator taking effect. Sweep them up.

What we cover in Lane Cove, and how quickly we can get there.
Lane Cove sits about 7.2 km north-west of the CBD in the Lower North Shore, and postcode 2066 is one we are in most weeks. Our technicians are through Lane Cove most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
The Lane Cove addresses we attend cluster around Lane Cove Country Club and Cameraygal Park. Lane Cove Aquatic Leisure Centre is another part of the suburb we are called to often.
Under North Sydney, Mosman, Willoughby, Lane Cove and Hunters Hill, we cover Lane Cove and Lane Cove North, Riverview and Lane Cove West alike. The mix here is older houses and converted blocks near the water, where moisture under the floor is usually part of the story.
What we see in Lane Cove is period houses and converted blocks where the lower level is the problem. Describing it accurately when you book saves a second visit.
Beyond that we are regularly around Batten Reserve, and out as far as The Village Shopping Centre. If you are anywhere in 2066, you are inside the area we run.
Bookings for 2066 are confirmed the day before with a set arrival time, not an all-day window. Jobs at Lane Cove North and Riverview often share the same run, which is how earlier slots come up.
A cockroach can last weeks on almost nothing to eat but only days without water. That is why perfectly clean Lane Cove kitchens still get them: a dripping tap, a sweating pipe or a damp dishwasher seal is enough.
German cockroaches are small, light brown, and stay indoors near warmth and water. Australian and smoky-brown cockroaches are bigger, darker and come in from outside. In Lane Cove we see both, and they need completely different treatments - one is a kitchen job, the other is a perimeter job.
Find the harbourage and the job is most of the way done. We look for the places that stay warm overnight and are never cleaned: appliance housings, the underside of drawers, cable entries and the back of the kickboard.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, roughly 12 to 15 mm long. It lives indoors near warmth, food and moisture, and it is the species that breeds fastest inside a kitchen.

Reddish-brown and as long as 4 cm. It belongs to the drainage system - sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps, the subfloor - and arrives in the kitchen overnight from there.

Similar in size to the American cockroach but with pale yellow edges near the head and along the wings. Despite the name it is an outdoor species that comes in from gardens, mulch and subfloors.

Small and marked with pale bands. It is the one that does not want water, so it settles high and dry - behind pictures, inside electrical housings, in the top cupboards.

Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches moving about in daylight, and droppings like ground pepper along shelf edges | German cockroach, well established by the time they show in the day | Door hinges, the voids behind white goods, the kickboard space, the inside of appliances | Indoor work: bait rotation, a growth regulator, and placement into every crack and crevice |
| The occasional large cockroach at night in a wet area rather than a group in the kitchen | American cockroach | Pits, the subfloor, and floor wastes that are no longer holding water | Drain and pit treatment plus subfloor work, with pipe gaps sealed afterwards |
| Yellow-edged cockroaches in the garage, or coming through a door from the garden | Australian cockroach | Mulch and leaf litter, woodpiles, and the roof void | External perimeter, a dusting through the roof void, and clearing garden harbourage |
| Small cockroaches turning up in bedrooms and living rooms, never around the sink | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry furniture, and the inside of electrical appliances | Bait placed through the living and sleeping areas where they actually are |
| Cockroaches that always come back to the flat no matter how well you treat your own kitchen | German cockroach moving around the block | Shared service risers, the bin room, and cavities inside the party walls | Treating the whole building together. See strata pest control |

A licensed Sydney technician will talk it through with you and give you a fixed quote within half an hour.
Roughly 30 eggs sit in a single case, and the female keeps it with her until it is nearly ready to hatch. Nothing you spray on a surface touches it.
A female will make several egg cases, and in kitchen warmth her young are breeding within weeks. Small numbers do not stay small.
Because they repel, bombs and aerosols spread the problem: deeper into the walls, into the neighbouring unit, and over the surfaces you prepare food on.
Droppings, saliva and shed skins are established asthma and allergy triggers. An infestation left in place is a health problem, not only an unpleasant one.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
We identify the species, then go looking with a torch and mirror - hinges, inside appliances, behind the kickboards, into the wall voids. What we find decides the treatment, not a set routine.
Grease and food residue keep a colony going, so we show you the spots that matter most. Bait only wins if it is the best meal in the room.
We place gel in precise dots along their travel routes rather than spraying. They feed, return to the harbourage, and the effect spreads through the population by contact and feeding.
A growth regulator shuts down the next generation, and dust goes into the voids and cavities where gel simply cannot be placed.
With American and Australian cockroaches the work is outside the kitchen: the pits, the floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void, because that is where they breed.
A written summary comes with the job. Heavy activity still there after two weeks, or a return within 6 months of a general treatment, and we come back for nothing.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Kills on contact, so the visible one goes | Cannot reach an egg case or a void, and repels the remainder into the walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Reaches open floor and bench area without effort | Misses the harbourage entirely, leaves residue where you prepare food, and disperses them |
| Retail bait stations | Worth using when numbers are genuinely low | There is very little bait in them, and crumbs or grease will beat them every time |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Eaten in the hiding place and passed between cockroaches; formulations rotate if one is avoided | Depends on a clean kitchen, and the result comes over days to a fortnight |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops nymphs maturing into breeding adults, which breaks the egg-case cycle | Works slowly, so it is always paired with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Expect more sightings, not fewer - slow-moving cockroaches out in the open or dead on the floor. That is the bait and growth regulator taking effect. Sweep them up.
Numbers should drop away through this period. Do not wipe the bait out of hinges and cracks, and do not spray over it - cockroaches will stop taking bait that has been sprayed.
Keep the agent or building manager informed if it does not settle; cockroaches travel between flats. Our apartment pest control page covers the options for a whole block.
Call 1300 313 373 if activity is still steady after a fortnight, or if they come back within the 6 months a general treatment covers. The re-treatment is under warranty.
If cockroaches keep appearing in a Lane Cove bathroom rather than the kitchen, the drain is the first thing we check. They travel the pipework between units and come up wherever the seal has dried out.
Cockroaches do not respect a lease boundary. In a Lane Cove block they move through service risers, shared drains and the cavity between units, so treating one kitchen in a building with a problem is money spent on a holding pattern.
Council officers want records, not reassurance. For food premises around Lane Cove we provide the treatment schedule, the products used, the monitoring point locations and the findings from each visit, in a form you can hand over.
German cockroaches get baits and growth regulators, and drain species get pit and subfloor work. The species decides the treatment.
Gel goes into the cracks and hinges. Nothing gets sprayed across the bench you prepare food on.
We cover everything from one apartment to a full commercial kitchen, scheduled around your trading hours.
General treatments carry 6 months: a return within that window brings us back at no cost.

Yes. Houses, townhouses, units, strata common property, rentals and commercial sites in Lane Cove 2066 are all part of what we do, and the paperwork is the kind agents accept.
It is, applied properly. We put product into cracks, voids and stations rather than across open surfaces, and we will tell you what to stay off and for how long before we leave.
Normally you can stay. Some treatments mean keeping out of a particular room briefly, and we will flag that when we arrive so you can plan around it.
Allow an hour to two hours for most properties. A bigger building, or one where the problem has spread, takes longer - and we would rather tell you that when quoting than rush it.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. That is the point of the warranty - you do not pay twice for the same problem.
We do. Lane Cove and Lane Cove North, Riverview, Lane Cove West and Artarmon are all on the same route, which helps if you own more than one property in the area.
