Expect more sightings, not fewer - slow-moving cockroaches out in the open or dead on the floor. That is the bait and growth regulator taking effect. Sweep them up.

What we cover in Whale Beach, and how quickly we can get there.
If you are in Whale Beach or anywhere else in 2107, you are in our Northern Beaches patch, 30.6 km north of the CBD. We cover Whale Beach on scheduled runs through the Northern Beaches, and we will give you a firm time rather than a window.
Most weeks we are somewhere between Whale Beach and Whale Beach Reserve in Whale Beach, and Dark Gully Reserve is close enough to be on the same run.
Under Northern Beaches, we cover Whale Beach and Palm Beach, Avalon Beach and Clareville alike. Salt air and sandy ground keep sub-floors damp here, and damp is what sustains a population.
Around Whale Beach the pattern is fairly consistent: unit blocks a street or two back from the water, plus the odd beachfront cafe. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
The whole of 2107 is on our regular run.
We confirm your slot the day before and arrive at a stated time. Palm Beach and Avalon Beach sit on the same run, so earlier appointments in 2107 come up regularly.
Nobody gets bitten by a cockroach. The risk is what comes off their feet onto a Whale Beach benchtop after a trip through the drain line, which matters most in a house with small children or anyone with a weakened immune system.
A large German cockroach population has a distinct musty, oily smell that gets into cupboards, drawer liners and anything cardboard. It comes from their droppings and secretions, and it lingers until the harbourage itself is cleaned out.
If your Whale Beach neighbour has cockroaches, you have a supply line. The treatment still works, but it needs the entry points sealed and ideally the adjoining property done at the same time.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, roughly 12 to 15 mm long. It lives indoors near warmth, food and moisture, and it is the species that breeds fastest inside a kitchen.

Up to roughly 4 cm long and reddish-brown. You find it in sewers, pits, grease traps and under the floor, and it travels up through drains after dark rather than nesting indoors.

Similar in size to the American cockroach but with pale yellow edges near the head and along the wings. Despite the name it is an outdoor species that comes in from gardens, mulch and subfloors.

Small and marked with pale bands. It is the one that does not want water, so it settles high and dry - behind pictures, inside electrical housings, in the top cupboards.

One of our Sydney inspections, showing German cockroach activity. The harbourage itself tells the story: droppings, cast skins and egg cases give us both the species and the scale.

Photo from an Elite job: cockroach harbourage inside commercial kitchen equipment. Motor housings, door seals and hollow legs stay warm overnight and are rarely cleaned.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches moving about in daylight, and droppings like ground pepper along shelf edges | German cockroach, well established by the time they show in the day | Door hinges, the voids behind white goods, the kickboard space, the inside of appliances | Indoor work: bait rotation, a growth regulator, and placement into every crack and crevice |
| The occasional large cockroach at night in a wet area rather than a group in the kitchen | American cockroach | Pits, the subfloor, and floor wastes that are no longer holding water | Drain and pit treatment plus subfloor work, with pipe gaps sealed afterwards |
| Yellow-edged cockroaches in the garage, or coming through a door from the garden | Australian cockroach | Mulch and leaf litter, woodpiles, and the roof void | External perimeter, a dusting through the roof void, and clearing garden harbourage |
| Small cockroaches in bedrooms, in the TV unit or behind frames, away from the kitchen | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm, dry furniture and electrical appliances | Targeted baiting in living and sleeping areas |
| Cockroaches that always come back to the flat no matter how well you treat your own kitchen | German cockroach moving around the block | Shared service risers, the bin room, and cavities inside the party walls | Treating the whole building together. See strata pest control |

Each German cockroach egg case carries roughly 30 eggs and stays with the female almost until they hatch. Surface sprays never reach it, so the following generation arrives regardless.
One female produces several egg cases, and in a warm kitchen the young reach maturity within weeks. That is how a handful becomes a serious problem in a short time.
Foggers and retail sprays drive the population further into cavities and across into neighbouring units, while leaving residue on the surfaces you cook on.
Cast skins, droppings and saliva are recognised asthma and allergy triggers, which makes a long-running infestation a health issue rather than just an annoyance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Step one is knowing which cockroach you have. Step two is finding where it shelters: torch and inspection mirror through hinges, appliance cavities, kickboards and wall voids.
If grease or food residue is sustaining the population, we point out exactly what to clean and in what order. Bait competes with whatever else is available, so this step changes the result.
Rather than spray, we put small amounts of gel exactly where they travel. They eat and return to shelter, and that is how the treatment reaches the ones you never see.
Two products with different jobs: the growth regulator stops nymphs maturing, and dust carries the treatment into voids and cavities beyond the reach of gel.
With American and Australian cockroaches the work is outside the kitchen: the pits, the floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void, because that is where they breed.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Works on a cockroach you can actually see | Egg cases and harbourage are untouched, and it repels the others further in |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers open surfaces in a room | Misses harbourage, leaves residue on benches, and can scatter the colony |
| Retail bait stations | Fine as a first step on a small problem | Not enough bait to matter, and any food left about is more attractive |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Fed on where they shelter and passed between them, with formulations rotated as needed | Only works once competing food is gone, and takes days to a couple of weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Keeps nymphs from becoming breeding adults, so the egg-case cycle stops | It acts gradually, which is why it is always paired with a bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Expect more sightings, not fewer - slow-moving cockroaches out in the open or dead on the floor. That is the bait and growth regulator taking effect. Sweep them up.
Expect activity to taper off. The bait dots in hinges and cracks need to stay put, and nothing should be sprayed over them - that is what makes cockroaches avoid bait.
Where activity continues, raise it with your agent or strata manager, because they cross between lots. See apartment pest control for how a building-wide treatment runs.
Two weeks on and still seeing them regularly, or back inside 6 months of a general treatment? That is a warranty call - 1300 313 373.
For a Whale Beach cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
The pattern we see across Whale Beach and the wider Northern Beaches is a surge after the first properly warm week, then steady pressure until autumn. Treating before that surge is far cheaper than treating after it.
We are around Dark Gully Reserve and the streets behind it most weeks, and we cover every address in 2107, not just the main roads.
Treatment follows identification. Indoor German cockroaches need bait and a growth regulator; drain-dwelling species need the pits and subfloor treated.
Gel baits in cracks and hinges, not blanket spraying across benches where you prepare food.
From single apartments to commercial kitchens serviced outside trading hours.
General treatments carry 6 months: a return within that window brings us back at no cost.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. What changes the figure is the size of the building, how many areas are affected and the access. You get that number up front for Whale Beach 2107, with no call-out fee. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
At roughly 30.6 km north of the city, Whale Beach is on a route we run regularly. We cover it on scheduled runs, so a day's notice gets you the best slot. You will be given a time, not a window.
Humidity close to the coast does not fall away in winter the way it does inland, so cockroaches here get a longer active season than they would further west.
Apartments near the beach and houses behind them. Either way the sub-floor and the lower level are the parts that matter.
We do. A lot of our Whale Beach work is rentals and strata, so the report, the products used and the areas treated are all recorded in writing for whoever needs them.
Yes, applied correctly. Products are registered for this use, placed out of reach rather than across open surfaces, and you will know what to stay off and for how long.
In the great majority of jobs, no. If one area needs to be left for an hour or two we say so before we start rather than after.
Typically one to two hours on site. What extends it is size, access and how far the problem has gone, all of which are accounted for in the quote.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. If activity continues past the expected period, call us and we will come back.
All of them. Whale Beach sits alongside Palm Beach, Avalon Beach, Clareville and Bilgola Beach in our coverage, and they are serviced on the same schedule.
