Kingsdene sits about 19.1 km north-west of the CBD in the Ryde & the Northern District, and postcode 2118 is one we are in most weeks. We run Kingsdene on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
Our Kingsdene work takes in the streets by Telopea station and Carlingford station, through to Kingsdene Oval at the other end.
We cover North Rocks, Carlingford and Oatlands on the same runs as Kingsdene, which helps when cockroach problems are moving between neighbouring properties. The building stock is close-packed, so we look at what the property adjoins before deciding where product goes.
Around Kingsdene the pattern is fairly consistent: terraces and semis where the problem has come through a shared wall. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
The rest of 2118 is covered too, including the pockets around Walter Brown Park and North Rocks Shopping Centre.
We confirm your slot the day before and arrive at a stated time. North Rocks and Carlingford sit on the same run, so earlier appointments in 2118 come up regularly.
A cockroach can last weeks on almost nothing to eat but only days without water. That is why perfectly clean Kingsdene kitchens still get them: a dripping tap, a sweating pipe or a damp dishwasher seal is enough.
If you are seeing them with the lights on, the numbers behind the kickboard are substantial. We treat a daytime report in Kingsdene as an established infestation rather than a few strays.
The whole job is finding where they shelter. We go looking for what stays warm overnight and never gets wiped: inside appliance housings, under drawer bases, around cable entries, behind the kickboard in a Kingsdene kitchen.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Around 12 to 15 mm, light brown, two dark stripes running back from the head. It never really leaves the building - warmth, a food source and a little moisture keep it going, and it out-breeds every other cockroach in a kitchen.

Up to roughly 4 cm long and reddish-brown. You find it in sewers, pits, grease traps and under the floor, and it travels up through drains after dark rather than nesting indoors.

Close to the American cockroach in size, with yellow edging near the head and down the wings. It belongs outdoors in gardens, mulch and subfloor areas, and enters the house rather than breeding in it.

A small cockroach with light bands across the body, found away from water in warm dry positions: behind frames, in electrical fittings, in cupboards at height.

Photo from an Elite job: German cockroach activity found during a Sydney inspection. Droppings, cast skins and egg cases in the harbourage tell us the species and how established it is.

Taken on an Elite commercial job - harbourage inside the equipment itself. Motor cavities, door seals and hollow legs stay warm all night and rarely see a cloth.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| A dozen small cockroaches on the bench in broad daylight, with dark specks in the cupboard corners | German cockroach, already a heavy infestation | The hinge of a cupboard door, behind the dishwasher and fridge, the kickboard void, inside appliances | Bait rotation and a growth regulator, applied into cracks and crevices right through the kitchen |
| Big cockroaches seen after dark near a floor waste, the bathroom or the laundry | American cockroach | Sewer and stormwater pits and the subfloor - plus dried-out waste traps as the way in | We treat the pits, the drain lines and the subfloor, then seal around the pipework |
| Big cockroaches with pale yellow margins, usually in the garage or arriving from outside | Australian cockroach | Garden mulch, leaf litter, stacked firewood and the roof cavity | Perimeter treatment outside, dusting the roof void, and dealing with garden harbourage |
| Small cockroaches in bedrooms, in the TV unit or behind frames, away from the kitchen | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm, dry furniture and electrical appliances | Targeted baiting in living and sleeping areas |
| A flat that clears for a fortnight and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach moving through the building | Shared risers, the bin room, and cavities running between walls | A coordinated treatment across the block. See strata pest control |

A licensed Sydney technician will talk it through with you and give you a fixed quote within half an hour.
The egg case - around 30 eggs, carried by the female until just before hatching - is shielded from anything applied to a surface. That is why the population reappears after a DIY attempt.
Multiply several egg cases per female by nymphs that mature in a few warm weeks and you have the reason a minor sighting turns into an infestation.
Foggers and retail sprays drive the population further into cavities and across into neighbouring units, while leaving residue on the surfaces you cook on.
What they leave behind matters: droppings, saliva and cast skins are known asthma and allergy triggers, so this is a health question as much as a comfort one.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Species confirmation comes first, then the search. Torch and inspection mirror into cupboard hinges, appliance housings, the kickboard void and the wall cavity, so the treatment is aimed rather than general.
Where build-up is feeding them, you will get a short list of what to clean and the order to do it in - bait has to out-compete everything else available.
Small dots of professional gel bait go into the cracks cockroaches travel through. They eat, return to harbourage and the effect passes through the population.
A growth regulator shuts down the next generation, and dust goes into the voids and cavities where gel simply cannot be placed.
With American and Australian cockroaches the work is outside the kitchen: the pits, the floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void, because that is where they breed.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Takes care of the one in front of you | Does nothing to egg cases or voids, and drives the rest deeper into the walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Easy coverage of the exposed parts of a room | Never reaches the hiding places, leaves residue where you cook, and scatters them |
| Retail bait stations | Fine as a first step on a small problem | Not enough bait to matter, and any food left about is more attractive |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Fed on inside the harbourage and shared through the colony, with the option to swap formulations | Only works with the food competition removed, and needs days to two weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Prevents the young reaching breeding age, which ends the egg-case cycle | Slow by design, so we never use it on its own - it goes in with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Cockroaches coming out in daylight and moving sluggishly is the normal first sign. The bait and growth regulator are working. Sweep up what you find and carry on.
You should see a steady decline. Leave the gel where we put it in hinges and cracks, and keep your own insecticide away from it, or they will refuse to feed.
If it keeps going, let the agent or building manager know - cockroaches move between units readily. There is more on co-ordinated work on our apartment pest control page.
If you still see steady activity after two weeks, or cockroaches return within 6 months of a general treatment, call 1300 313 373 for a warranty re-treatment.
Cockroaches do not respect a lease boundary. In a Kingsdene block they move through service risers, shared drains and the cavity between units, so treating one kitchen in a building with a problem is money spent on a holding pattern.
Floor wastes, overflow pipes and the gap where a waste pipe passes through a cupboard base are all cockroach routes. A dry floor waste in a Kingsdene laundry is an open door, and a cup of water down it once a week closes it.
Humidity is the driver. In the Ryde & the Northern District the summer months bring the fastest breeding, and the mild winters mean a population indoors never really slows - it just gets quieter.
The species sets the method - gel and growth regulator indoors for German cockroaches, pits and subfloor for the drain dwellers.
Gel goes into the cracks and hinges. Nothing gets sprayed across the bench you prepare food on.

Same-day attendance is usually available. Kingsdene is about 19.1 km north-west of the CBD in the Ryde & the Northern District, and we give you a firm arrival time rather than an all-day window.
The housing stock is old and joined together. A shared wall cavity or a continuous sub-floor lets cockroaches travel from one property to the next, which is why your neighbour matters.
Older joined housing. The treatment takes account of shared walls, continuous sub-floors and roof voids that run between properties.
