Days 1 to 3
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.

What we cover in Seven Hills, and how quickly we can get there.
Postcode 2147 covers Seven Hills and the streets immediately around it. At about 27.5 km west of the CBD it falls in the Blacktown & Mount Druitt, where we have vans out daily. We cover Seven Hills on scheduled runs through the Blacktown & Mount Druitt, and we will give you a firm time rather than a window.
If you are near Seven Hills Plaza, Seven Hills station or Grantham Heritage Park, that is ground we cover constantly - it is the busiest part of Seven Hills for us.
The suburb sits in the Blacktown City area. Lalor Park, Toongabbie and Prospect are all covered on the same day, so a problem that has spread across a boundary can be handled in one visit. On a newer estate the houses are near-identical and tightly spaced, which means a problem in one tends to turn up in the ones either side.
Around Seven Hills the pattern is fairly consistent: newer homes on small blocks where next door has the same problem. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
We also work the area near Landen Stadium, and the rest of 2147 with it.
When you book, we confirm the 2147 run the day before and give you an arrival time rather than a window. If we are already out at Lalor Park or Toongabbie that morning, we will usually offer you the earlier slot.
German cockroaches rarely walk in from outside. They arrive in things: cardboard delivery boxes, a second-hand fridge or microwave, a toolbox, grocery crates, or in the luggage of a visitor whose own kitchen has them.
Heat is an accelerator. Through a Seven Hills summer the cycle from egg case to breeding adult runs weeks faster than it does in July, which is why a small problem noticed in spring is worth dealing with before Christmas.
If cockroaches keep appearing in a Seven Hills bathroom rather than the kitchen, the drain is the first thing we check. They travel the pipework between units and come up wherever the seal has dried out.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, roughly 12 to 15 mm long. It lives indoors near warmth, food and moisture, and it is the species that breeds fastest inside a kitchen.

The largest one we deal with, around 4 cm and reddish-brown. Pits, sewers, grease traps and subfloors are where it breeds; the kitchen is somewhere it passes through at night.

Similar in size to the American cockroach but with pale yellow edges near the head and along the wings. Despite the name it is an outdoor species that comes in from gardens, mulch and subfloors.

Small, with light bands across the back. Unlike the others it avoids damp, preferring warm dry places up high - behind wall hangings, inside appliance housings and in upper cupboards.

An Elite job photo of German cockroach activity on a Sydney inspection. Egg cases, shed skins and droppings in the harbourage are how we work out what we are dealing with.

From an Elite commercial job: harbourage found inside kitchen equipment. The motor housing, the door seal and the hollow leg hold warmth after close and almost never get cleaned out.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches in the kitchen during the day, plus pepper-like droppings in cupboard corners | German cockroach, usually a heavy infestation | Hinges, dishwasher and fridge cavities, behind the kickboards, inside appliances | Gel bait rotation, growth regulator and crack-and-crevice treatment inside |
| Big cockroaches at night in the wet areas, never a crowd of them in the kitchen | American cockroach | Down in the pits and the subfloor, coming up through floor wastes with no water in them | We treat the pits and drain lines and the subfloor, then seal where the pipes come through |
| Big yellow-margined cockroaches that seem to come from the garden rather than the kitchen | Australian cockroach | Garden mulch, leaf litter and woodpiles, plus the roof cavity | Treating outside: the perimeter, the roof void, and the harbourage in the beds themselves |
| Little cockroaches well away from the kitchen: bedrooms, the TV unit, behind wall hangings | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry spots in furniture and inside appliances | Bait placed where they actually are, in the living and sleeping areas |
| A flat that clears for a fortnight and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach moving through the building | Shared risers, the bin room, and cavities running between walls | A coordinated treatment across the block. See strata pest control |

A licensed Sydney technician will talk it through with you and give you a fixed quote within half an hour.
A German cockroach egg case holds around 30 eggs, and the female carries it until shortly before hatching. Killing adults on the surface leaves the next generation untouched.
Several egg cases per female, and nymphs maturing in weeks where it is warm - the arithmetic is why cockroach numbers climb so steeply once they are established.
Supermarket sprays and bombs repel. The colony moves further into the cavity, or next door, and your benchtops end up with residue on them.
Cockroach droppings, saliva and cast skins are recognised triggers for allergies and asthma, so a lingering infestation is a health issue as well as a nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Species confirmation comes first, then the search. Torch and inspection mirror into cupboard hinges, appliance housings, the kickboard void and the wall cavity, so the treatment is aimed rather than general.
Grease and food residue keep a colony going, so we show you the spots that matter most. Bait only wins if it is the best meal in the room.
Rather than spray, we put small amounts of gel exactly where they travel. They eat and return to shelter, and that is how the treatment reaches the ones you never see.
The growth regulator keeps nymphs from ever breeding; dust handles the wall voids and cavities that no gel dot can reach.
Pits, floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void get treated for the American and Australian species - they come in from there, so that is where it has to be done.
We leave you a written record of the job. If it is still heavy at two weeks, or comes back inside the 6 months a general treatment carries, we return at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Effective on the one you are aiming at | Leaves egg cases and wall voids untouched, and scatters the rest further in |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Puts product across everything out in the open | Does not get into harbourage, coats your benchtops, and can split the colony up |
| Retail bait stations | Can help if you have only seen a few | The bait volume is small, and competing food such as grease wins out |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Taken into the harbourage and shared around; if they tire of one gel we change it | Needs the kitchen clean behind it, and works over days rather than hours |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops the young ever reaching breeding age, which ends the egg-case cycle | Acts slowly by design, so bait always goes in with it |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.
Through the second week activity should fall away. Leave the bait in place in hinges and cracks, and resist spraying anything over it, which puts cockroaches off feeding.
Tell your agent or building manager if activity continues, as cockroaches often travel between lots. Our apartment pest control page explains building-wide options.
Ring 1300 313 373 for a warranty re-treatment if steady activity continues past two weeks, or if cockroaches return within 6 months of a general treatment.
A good share of our Seven Hills work sits close to Seven Hills Plaza, though the back streets and the Lalor Park boundary are just as familiar.
For a Seven Hills cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
If your Seven Hills neighbour has cockroaches, you have a supply line. The treatment still works, but it needs the entry points sealed and ideally the adjoining property done at the same time.
What we use depends on what you have: baits and growth regulators for German cockroaches, pit and subfloor treatment for the drain species.
We bait into cracks and hinges instead of spraying benchtops, because that is where food is prepared.
We cover everything from one apartment to a full commercial kitchen, scheduled around your trading hours.
A general treatment is covered for 6 months. Cockroaches inside that period mean a free return visit.
