What we cover in Rushcutters Bay, and how quickly we can get there.
Rushcutters Bay sits about 1.9 km east of the CBD in the Eastern Suburbs, and postcode 2011 is one we are in most weeks. Our technicians are through Rushcutters Bay most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
Our Rushcutters Bay work takes in the streets by Kings Cross station and Waratah Street Reserve, through to Double Bay Beach at the other end.
Waverley, Randwick and Woollahra is the council area for Rushcutters Bay, and we treat Elizabeth Bay, Woolloomooloo and Edgecliff on the same schedule. The coastal damp is the part that matters: sub-floors and ground-floor wet areas rarely dry out properly.
The cockroach calls we take from Rushcutters Bay are mostly ground-floor units with a damp sub-floor, and houses where the garage sits below the living level. If yours is one of them, mention it when you ring 1300 313 373 - it changes what the technician brings.
We also work the area near Westfield Sydney, and the rest of 2011 with it.
We confirm your slot the day before and arrive at a stated time. Elizabeth Bay and Woolloomooloo sit on the same run, so earlier appointments in 2011 come up regularly.
Think of it as two populations: the adults you see, and the eggs you do not. Clear the first in a Rushcutters Bay kitchen and the second hatches on schedule about ten weeks later, which is why one-off treatments never hold.
Cockroaches avoid light, so seeing one in daylight is not a chance encounter - it usually means the harbourage is crowded enough to push individuals out into the open. A daytime sighting in a Rushcutters Bay kitchen is a sign of scale, not bad luck.
Where Rushcutters Bay housing shares walls and roof voids - semis, terraces, unit blocks - the population is usually shared too. We say so up front rather than treating one flat and letting you discover it a month later.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

At 12 to 15 mm and light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, this is the species we find living permanently indoors. Warmth, food and moisture are all it needs, and it reproduces faster than any other cockroach here.

Reddish-brown and as long as 4 cm. It belongs to the drainage system - sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps, the subfloor - and arrives in the kitchen overnight from there.

Similar in size to the American cockroach, told apart by the yellow margins at the head and wing edges. An outdoor species - gardens, mulch, the subfloor - that makes its way in.

A small banded cockroach that favours warmth and dryness rather than moisture. Look for it high up: behind frames, inside electrical enclosures and in cupboards well away from the sink.

An Elite job photo of German cockroach activity on a Sydney inspection. Egg cases, shed skins and droppings in the harbourage are how we work out what we are dealing with.

Photo from an Elite job: cockroach harbourage inside commercial kitchen equipment. Motor housings, door seals and hollow legs stay warm overnight and are rarely cleaned.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches you can see without a torch, plus droppings like coarse pepper on cupboard edges | German cockroach - daytime sightings mean a lot of them | Hinges, the cavity behind the fridge, under the kickboards, in the housings of the appliances | Gel bait rotated through the job, a growth regulator, and crack-and-crevice work indoors |
| One or two large cockroaches at night near the laundry, bathroom or floor waste | American cockroach | Sewer and stormwater pits, subfloor, dry floor-waste traps | Drain and pit treatment, subfloor, sealing gaps around pipes |
| Big yellow-margined cockroaches that seem to come from the garden rather than the kitchen | Australian cockroach | Garden mulch, leaf litter and woodpiles, plus the roof cavity | Treating outside: the perimeter, the roof void, and the harbourage in the beds themselves |
| Small cockroaches found upstairs or in bedrooms rather than around the sink | Brown-banded cockroach | Dry, warm furniture and the inside of electrical appliances | Targeted bait placement through living and sleeping spaces |
| Cockroaches returning to a unit however often you treat your own kitchen | German cockroach crossing between units | Common service risers, bin rooms, and the wall cavities that link lots | Treatment coordinated building-wide. See strata pest control |

A German cockroach egg case holds around 30 eggs, and the female carries it until shortly before hatching. Killing adults on the surface leaves the next generation untouched.
One female produces several egg cases, and in a warm kitchen the young reach maturity within weeks. That is how a handful becomes a serious problem in a short time.
Bombs and supermarket sprays push cockroaches deeper into wall voids and into the unit next door, and can contaminate the surfaces you prepare food on.
Droppings, saliva and shed skins are established asthma and allergy triggers. An infestation left in place is a health problem, not only an unpleasant one.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
First we establish which cockroach it is, then map where it lives - torch and mirror into hinges, motor cavities, behind kickboards and into wall voids. Everything after this depends on that map.
If grease or food residue is sustaining the population, we point out exactly what to clean and in what order. Bait competes with whatever else is available, so this step changes the result.
Small dots of professional gel bait go into the cracks cockroaches travel through. They eat, return to harbourage and the effect passes through the population.
An insect growth regulator stops nymphs becoming breeding adults, and dust goes into wall voids and cavities where gel cannot reach.
Pits, floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void get treated for the American and Australian species - they come in from there, so that is where it has to be done.
We leave you a written record of the job. If it is still heavy at two weeks, or comes back inside the 6 months a general treatment carries, we return at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Kills the cockroach you can see | Does not reach egg cases or voids, and repels others deeper into walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Treats the exposed surfaces of a room in one go | Nothing reaches the hiding places, residue settles on food surfaces, and the colony scatters |
| Retail bait stations | Can help if you have only seen a few | The bait volume is small, and competing food such as grease wins out |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Eaten in the hiding place and passed between cockroaches; formulations rotate if one is avoided | Depends on a clean kitchen, and the result comes over days to a fortnight |
| Insect growth regulator | Prevents nymphs maturing, so the cycle of egg cases stops | Slow on its own, which is why it is never used without bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Seeing more of them at first is expected. They come out, move slowly and die - the bait and growth regulator doing their job. Sweep up and leave everything else alone.
Through the second week activity should fall away. Leave the bait in place in hinges and cracks, and resist spraying anything over it, which puts cockroaches off feeding.
Where activity continues, raise it with your agent or strata manager, because they cross between lots. See apartment pest control for how a building-wide treatment runs.
Ring 1300 313 373 for a warranty re-treatment if steady activity continues past two weeks, or if cockroaches return within 6 months of a general treatment.
Humidity is the driver. In the Eastern Suburbs the summer months bring the fastest breeding, and the mild winters mean a population indoors never really slows - it just gets quieter.
A good share of our Rushcutters Bay work sits close to Double Bay Beach, though the back streets and the Elizabeth Bay boundary are just as familiar.
A cockroach sighting in a Rushcutters Bay food business is a compliance problem before it is a pest problem. The program we run is built so the paperwork exists before anyone asks for it.
German cockroaches get baits and growth regulators, and drain species get pit and subfloor work. The species decides the treatment.
We bait into cracks and hinges instead of spraying benchtops, because that is where food is prepared.
We cover everything from one apartment to a full commercial kitchen, scheduled around your trading hours.
If cockroaches return inside 6 months of a general treatment, we come back free of charge.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. We quote on the property rather than the postcode, so a unit in Rushcutters Bay and a large house are priced differently. The figure is fixed before any work starts. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
Same-day attendance is usually available. Rushcutters Bay is about 1.9 km east of the CBD in the Eastern Suburbs, and we give you a firm arrival time rather than an all-day window.
The sea air is the factor people miss. It keeps sub-floors and ground-floor bathrooms damp long after summer, which is enough to keep cockroaches going.
Units near the water and houses set back from it, with damp sub-floors the common factor in both.
We do. A lot of our Rushcutters Bay work is rentals and strata, so the report, the products used and the areas treated are all recorded in writing for whoever needs them.
It is, provided the instructions are followed. We will tell you what to keep clear of and for how long before we leave. Let us know about children, pets or fish tanks when you book.
Generally no. We will tell you on arrival if any part of the job means keeping out of a room for a while, so there are no surprises.
Between one and two hours covers the majority of jobs. We do not book so tightly that a technician has to cut a job short.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. Ring us if activity picks up again inside that period and we will arrange the return.
Yes. As well as Rushcutters Bay we cover Elizabeth Bay, Woolloomooloo, Edgecliff and Darling Point on the same runs, so a job that crosses a boundary can be handled in one visit.
