Seeing more of them at first is expected. They come out, move slowly and die - the bait and growth regulator doing their job. Sweep up and leave everything else alone.

What we cover in Cronulla, and how quickly we can get there.
Postcode 2230 covers Cronulla and the streets immediately around it. At about 21.6 km south of the CBD it falls in the Sutherland Shire, where we have vans out daily. We run Cronulla on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
If you are near Monro Park, Gunnamatta Foreshore Bushland Reserve or Cronulla Beach, that is ground we cover constantly - it is the busiest part of Cronulla for us.
The suburb sits in the Sutherland Shire area. Burraneer, Dolans Bay and Bundeena are all covered on the same day, so a problem that has spread across a boundary can be handled in one visit. Backing onto bush means re-entry is the issue, so proofing and the perimeter do the real work here.
Around Cronulla the pattern is fairly consistent: properties where the fence line matters as much as the kitchen. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
We cover the remainder of 2230 as well, from Cronulla Golf Course through to Cronulla station.
Your appointment is confirmed the day before with a real arrival time. Because Burraneer and Dolans Bay are covered on the same round, 2230 often has an earlier slot available.
The population is not on your bench. It is in the warm, dark, humid gaps - behind the kickboard, inside the dishwasher housing, under the fridge motor, in the hinge of a cupboard door. A Cronulla treatment that only covers surfaces has not touched the nest.
Roughly forty juveniles come out of one case, and they are breeding themselves inside ten weeks. Unless a Cronulla treatment carries something that stops nymphs maturing, you are only ever resetting the clock.
One at night is a cockroach. One at midday is a population. When harbourage fills up they are forced into the open to find somewhere else, which is why daytime activity changes how we scope the job.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

At 12 to 15 mm and light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, this is the species we find living permanently indoors. Warmth, food and moisture are all it needs, and it reproduces faster than any other cockroach here.

Up to roughly 4 cm long and reddish-brown. You find it in sewers, pits, grease traps and under the floor, and it travels up through drains after dark rather than nesting indoors.

As big as the American but marked with pale yellow along the edge of the wings and behind the head. The name misleads: this one lives outside in mulch and garden beds and only comes indoors to look about.

A small cockroach with light bands across the body, found away from water in warm dry positions: behind frames, in electrical fittings, in cupboards at height.

Photo from an Elite job: German cockroach activity found during a Sydney inspection. Droppings, cast skins and egg cases in the harbourage tell us the species and how established it is.

Taken on an Elite commercial job - harbourage inside the equipment itself. Motor cavities, door seals and hollow legs stay warm all night and rarely see a cloth.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches moving about in daylight, and droppings like ground pepper along shelf edges | German cockroach, well established by the time they show in the day | Door hinges, the voids behind white goods, the kickboard space, the inside of appliances | Indoor work: bait rotation, a growth regulator, and placement into every crack and crevice |
| Large cockroaches turning up at night around wet areas, usually one at a time | American cockroach | The pit system, the subfloor, and any floor-waste trap that has lost its water seal | Pit and drain work, subfloor treatment, and closing off pipe penetrations |
| Large cockroaches edged in pale yellow, around the garage or just inside a back door | Australian cockroach | Mulch and leaf litter, woodpiles, and up in the roof void | Perimeter work outside, a dusting of the roof void, and clearing the garden harbourage |
| Little cockroaches well away from the kitchen: bedrooms, the TV unit, behind wall hangings | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry spots in furniture and inside appliances | Bait placed where they actually are, in the living and sleeping areas |
| A flat that clears for a fortnight and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach moving through the building | Shared risers, the bin room, and cavities running between walls | A coordinated treatment across the block. See strata pest control |

One call to a licensed Sydney technician gets you honest advice and a fixed quote within 30 minutes.
Roughly 30 eggs sit in a single case, and the female keeps it with her until it is nearly ready to hatch. Nothing you spray on a surface touches it.
A female will make several egg cases, and in kitchen warmth her young are breeding within weeks. Small numbers do not stay small.
Because they repel, bombs and aerosols spread the problem: deeper into the walls, into the neighbouring unit, and over the surfaces you prepare food on.
Cockroach droppings, saliva and cast skins are recognised triggers for allergies and asthma, so a lingering infestation is a health issue as well as a nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Species confirmation comes first, then the search. Torch and inspection mirror into cupboard hinges, appliance housings, the kickboard void and the wall cavity, so the treatment is aimed rather than general.
Grease and food residue keep a colony going, so we show you the spots that matter most. Bait only wins if it is the best meal in the room.
Small dots of professional gel bait go into the cracks cockroaches travel through. They eat, return to harbourage and the effect passes through the population.
An insect growth regulator stops nymphs becoming breeding adults, and dust goes into wall voids and cavities where gel cannot reach.
With American and Australian cockroaches the work is outside the kitchen: the pits, the floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void, because that is where they breed.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Kills the cockroach you can see | Does not reach egg cases or voids, and repels others deeper into walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers open surfaces in a room | Misses harbourage, leaves residue on benches, and can scatter the colony |
| Retail bait stations | A sensible first try on a light problem | Bait volume is too low for a colony, and competing food beats it |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Eaten in the hiding place and passed between cockroaches; formulations rotate if one is avoided | Depends on a clean kitchen, and the result comes over days to a fortnight |
| Insect growth regulator | Keeps nymphs from becoming breeding adults, so the egg-case cycle stops | It acts gradually, which is why it is always paired with a bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Seeing more of them at first is expected. They come out, move slowly and die - the bait and growth regulator doing their job. Sweep up and leave everything else alone.
Numbers should drop away through this period. Do not wipe the bait out of hinges and cracks, and do not spray over it - cockroaches will stop taking bait that has been sprayed.
Keep the agent or building manager informed if it does not settle; cockroaches travel between flats. Our apartment pest control page covers the options for a whole block.
If you still see steady activity after two weeks, or cockroaches return within 6 months of a general treatment, call 1300 313 373 for a warranty re-treatment.
In older Cronulla buildings a cockroach population can live entirely in the drain line and come up at night. Treating the kitchen and ignoring the pipework means you are treating the visitors, not the residents.
Humidity is the driver. In the Sutherland Shire the summer months bring the fastest breeding, and the mild winters mean a population indoors never really slows - it just gets quieter.
For a Cronulla cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
Identify first, then treat: bait and growth regulator for German cockroaches, pit and subfloor work for the species that come up the drains.
Precise gel placement into cracks and hinges rather than spraying the surfaces you cook on.
One flat or a whole commercial kitchen - food premises are done outside trading hours.
If cockroaches return inside 6 months of a general treatment, we come back free of charge.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. Two things move it: how big the place is, and how far it has already spread. We work that out on the phone or on site and tell you the figure before anything starts in Cronulla. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
Same-day attendance is usually available. We are about 21.6 km south of the city here, and Cronulla is covered by the Sutherland Shire team.
Leaf litter, fallen timber and undisturbed ground right up to the boundary keep cockroaches populations healthy next door to you, whatever you do indoors.
Detached houses on bush edges, where re-entry is the issue rather than the initial treatment.
We do all of those. A good share of the Cronulla jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
It is, as long as you follow what we tell you on the day - usually keeping off treated surfaces for a couple of hours. Let us know at booking about young children, pets or an aquarium.
Usually not. Most of the work is done with you in the house, and where a room does need to be clear it is for a short period we will tell you about on arrival.
Most cockroach control jobs in a Cronulla home take between one and two hours on site, depending on the size of the property and how much of it is affected.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. That is the point of the warranty - you do not pay twice for the same problem.
We cover the whole of Cronulla, from the streets around Gunnamatta Foreshore Bushland Reserve out to the suburb boundary and on into Burraneer.
