Days 1 to 3
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.

Local technicians, fixed prices and a written report for every job in Spit Junction.
Spit Junction is part of the Lower North Shore, 5.7 km or so north-east of the GPO, and 2088 is a postcode we know well. Our technicians are through Spit Junction most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
The Spit Junction addresses we attend cluster around Bridge Point Shopping Centre and Cremorne Town Centre. Memory Park is another part of the suburb we are called to often.
The suburb sits in the North Sydney, Mosman, Willoughby, Lane Cove and Hunters Hill area. Mosman, Cremorne and Clontarf are all covered on the same day, so a problem that has spread across a boundary can be handled in one visit. A lot of the housing here is older and close to the water, so sub-floors and lower levels hold damp - and damp is what keeps a population going.
Spit Junction jobs tend to be period houses and converted blocks where the lower level is the problem. Let us know which when you ring and we will plan the visit around it.
We also work the streets near Hunter Park and across toward Sydney Harbour National Park - the whole of 2088 is covered.
We confirm your slot the day before and arrive at a stated time. Mosman and Cremorne sit on the same run, so earlier appointments in 2088 come up regularly.
A cockroach can last weeks on almost nothing to eat but only days without water. That is why perfectly clean Spit Junction kitchens still get them: a dripping tap, a sweating pipe or a damp dishwasher seal is enough.
Find the harbourage and the job is most of the way done. We look for the places that stay warm overnight and are never cleaned: appliance housings, the underside of drawers, cable entries and the back of the kickboard.
Cockroach numbers do not climb steadily, they jump. A single egg case hatching behind a Spit Junction dishwasher puts forty juveniles into the room at once, and those reach breeding age in about ten weeks. Treating only what is visible resets nothing.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Small, 12 to 15 mm, light brown, marked with two dark stripes behind the head. This is the indoor breeder: it wants warmth, food and damp, and a kitchen supplies all three.

Large and reddish-brown, up to about 4 cm. It lives in sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps and subfloors, and comes up through drains at night rather than breeding in the kitchen.

Similar in size to the American cockroach, told apart by the yellow margins at the head and wing edges. An outdoor species - gardens, mulch, the subfloor - that makes its way in.

Small, with light bands across the back. Unlike the others it avoids damp, preferring warm dry places up high - behind wall hangings, inside appliance housings and in upper cupboards.

One of our Sydney inspections, showing German cockroach activity. The harbourage itself tells the story: droppings, cast skins and egg cases give us both the species and the scale.

Photo from an Elite job: cockroach harbourage inside commercial kitchen equipment. Motor housings, door seals and hollow legs stay warm overnight and are rarely cleaned.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cockroaches barely 15 mm out in the open by day, with dark pepper-like specks where cupboards meet | German cockroach, and an established one | Inside hinges, appliance cavities, the kickboard void, the housings of the appliances themselves | Gel baits rotated through the job, a growth regulator, and crack-and-crevice application indoors |
| One or two large cockroaches at night near the laundry, bathroom or floor waste | American cockroach | Sewer and stormwater pits, subfloor, dry floor-waste traps | Drain and pit treatment, subfloor, sealing gaps around pipes |
| Sizeable cockroaches with pale edging that appear in the garage or at a back door | Australian cockroach | Leaf litter and mulch, stacked timber, and the roof cavity | Treating the perimeter, dusting the roof void, and reducing harbourage in the garden |
| Small cockroaches in bedrooms, in the TV unit or behind frames, away from the kitchen | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm, dry furniture and electrical appliances | Targeted baiting in living and sleeping areas |
| An apartment where they come back a few weeks after you treated it yourself | German cockroach travelling between lots | The service risers, the bin room and the wall cavities the units share | Treating the building as one job. See strata pest control |

The egg case - around 30 eggs, carried by the female until just before hatching - is shielded from anything applied to a surface. That is why the population reappears after a DIY attempt.
Multiply several egg cases per female by nymphs that mature in a few warm weeks and you have the reason a minor sighting turns into an infestation.
Because they repel, bombs and aerosols spread the problem: deeper into the walls, into the neighbouring unit, and over the surfaces you prepare food on.
What they leave behind matters: droppings, saliva and cast skins are known asthma and allergy triggers, so this is a health question as much as a comfort one.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Step one is knowing which cockroach you have. Step two is finding where it shelters: torch and inspection mirror through hinges, appliance cavities, kickboards and wall voids.
If grease or food residue is sustaining the population, we point out exactly what to clean and in what order. Bait competes with whatever else is available, so this step changes the result.
We place gel in precise dots along their travel routes rather than spraying. They feed, return to the harbourage, and the effect spreads through the population by contact and feeding.
Two products with different jobs: the growth regulator stops nymphs maturing, and dust carries the treatment into voids and cavities beyond the reach of gel.
With American and Australian cockroaches the work is outside the kitchen: the pits, the floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void, because that is where they breed.
We leave you a written record of the job. If it is still heavy at two weeks, or comes back inside the 6 months a general treatment carries, we return at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Effective on the one you are aiming at | Leaves egg cases and wall voids untouched, and scatters the rest further in |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Reaches open floor and bench area without effort | Misses the harbourage entirely, leaves residue where you prepare food, and disperses them |
| Retail bait stations | Worth using when numbers are genuinely low | There is very little bait in them, and crumbs or grease will beat them every time |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Fed on inside the harbourage and shared through the colony, with the option to swap formulations | Only works with the food competition removed, and needs days to two weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Prevents nymphs maturing, so the cycle of egg cases stops | Slow on its own, which is why it is never used without bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
The first few days usually look worse: cockroaches in the open, slow, or dead on the floor. It means the treatment has started. Just sweep them away.
Activity should fall steadily. Leave bait spots in hinges and cracks alone, and avoid spraying your own insecticide over them, which can make cockroaches refuse the bait.
Keep the agent or building manager informed if it does not settle; cockroaches travel between flats. Our apartment pest control page covers the options for a whole block.
If you still see steady activity after two weeks, or cockroaches return within 6 months of a general treatment, call 1300 313 373 for a warranty re-treatment.
From Bridge Point Shopping Centre through to the Mosman side of Spit Junction, it is all one service area for us - same price, same response time.
For a Spit Junction cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
Floor wastes, overflow pipes and the gap where a waste pipe passes through a cupboard base are all cockroach routes. A dry floor waste in a Spit Junction laundry is an open door, and a cup of water down it once a week closes it.
What we use depends on what you have: baits and growth regulators for German cockroaches, pit and subfloor treatment for the drain species.
Gel goes into the cracks and hinges. Nothing gets sprayed across the bench you prepare food on.
From single apartments to commercial kitchens serviced outside trading hours.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. Two things move it: how big the place is, and how far it has already spread. We work that out on the phone or on site and tell you the figure before anything starts in Spit Junction. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
Same-day attendance is usually available. Spit Junction is about 5.7 km north-east of the CBD in the Lower North Shore, and we give you a firm arrival time rather than an all-day window.
Harbourside blocks are often steep, with the lower level cut into the slope. Those lower levels stay cool and damp, which is where we usually find cockroaches.
Older houses and converted blocks, frequently on a slope with a lower level cut into it - which is where we usually start.
We do. A lot of our Spit Junction work is rentals and strata, so the report, the products used and the areas treated are all recorded in writing for whoever needs them.
It is, as long as you follow what we tell you on the day - usually keeping off treated surfaces for a couple of hours. Let us know at booking about young children, pets or an aquarium.
Normally you can stay. Some treatments mean keeping out of a particular room briefly, and we will flag that when we arrive so you can plan around it.
An hour to two hours covers most jobs. The size of the building and the extent of the problem are what change it.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. Call us if activity picks up again and we will arrange the return visit.
We cover the whole of Spit Junction, from the streets around Bridge Point Shopping Centre out to the suburb boundary and on into Mosman.
