Where Glenorie sits, who covers it and what it costs.
If you are in Glenorie or anywhere else in 2157, you are in our Hills District patch, 35.3 km north-west of the CBD. We cover Glenorie on scheduled runs through the Hills District, and we will give you a firm time rather than a window.
Around Glenorie we are most often working near Cattai National Park.
We cover Fiddletown, Middle Dural and Arcadia on the same runs as Glenorie, which helps when cockroach problems are moving between neighbouring properties. With bushland close by there is constant pressure from outside, so the perimeter and the fence line get as much attention as the house.
Around Glenorie the pattern is fairly consistent: properties where the fence line matters as much as the kitchen. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
Every part of 2157 is covered as standard.
You get a confirmed time, not a window. We plan the 2157 run the day before, and if Fiddletown or Middle Dural is on the same round there is often an earlier slot going.
The usual route into a Glenorie home is carried, not crawled. Appliance deliveries, recycled cartons and second-hand white goods are the three we trace most often.
Cockroaches do not respect a lease boundary. In a Glenorie block they move through service risers, shared drains and the cavity between units, so treating one kitchen in a building with a problem is money spent on a holding pattern.
The odour is a useful diagnostic. We can often tell from it how long a Glenorie problem has been running, and it is also why treatment includes advice on what to clean or discard afterwards.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

At 12 to 15 mm and light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, this is the species we find living permanently indoors. Warmth, food and moisture are all it needs, and it reproduces faster than any other cockroach here.

Reddish-brown and as long as 4 cm. It belongs to the drainage system - sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps, the subfloor - and arrives in the kitchen overnight from there.

As big as the American but marked with pale yellow along the edge of the wings and behind the head. The name misleads: this one lives outside in mulch and garden beds and only comes indoors to look about.

A small banded cockroach that favours warmth and dryness rather than moisture. Look for it high up: behind frames, inside electrical enclosures and in cupboards well away from the sink.

An Elite inspection photo showing German cockroach activity in Sydney. What we look for is the evidence - droppings, cast skins, egg cases - because it identifies the species and how long it has been there.

Photo from an Elite job: cockroach harbourage inside commercial kitchen equipment. Motor housings, door seals and hollow legs stay warm overnight and are rarely cleaned.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Little ones out on the bench while the lights are on, with gritty black specks in cupboard corners | German cockroach - daytime activity means a large population | Cupboard hinges, the warm cavities behind the dishwasher and fridge, under kickboards, inside appliance housings | Rotated gel baits, an insect growth regulator, and product worked into cracks and crevices |
| Big cockroaches at night in the wet areas, never a crowd of them in the kitchen | American cockroach | Down in the pits and the subfloor, coming up through floor wastes with no water in them | We treat the pits and drain lines and the subfloor, then seal where the pipes come through |
| Large cockroaches edged in pale yellow, around the garage or just inside a back door | Australian cockroach | Mulch and leaf litter, woodpiles, and up in the roof void | Perimeter work outside, a dusting of the roof void, and clearing the garden harbourage |
| Little cockroaches well away from the kitchen: bedrooms, the TV unit, behind wall hangings | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry spots in furniture and inside appliances | Bait placed where they actually are, in the living and sleeping areas |
| Cockroaches in a unit that keep returning weeks after your own treatment | German cockroach moving between units | Shared service risers, bin rooms and wall cavities | A coordinated building treatment. See strata pest control |

Each German cockroach egg case carries roughly 30 eggs and stays with the female almost until they hatch. Surface sprays never reach it, so the following generation arrives regardless.
Multiply several egg cases per female by nymphs that mature in a few warm weeks and you have the reason a minor sighting turns into an infestation.
Because they repel, bombs and aerosols spread the problem: deeper into the walls, into the neighbouring unit, and over the surfaces you prepare food on.
What they leave behind matters: droppings, saliva and cast skins are known asthma and allergy triggers, so this is a health question as much as a comfort one.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
First we establish which cockroach it is, then map where it lives - torch and mirror into hinges, motor cavities, behind kickboards and into wall voids. Everything after this depends on that map.
Grease and food residue keep a colony going, so we show you the spots that matter most. Bait only wins if it is the best meal in the room.
Rather than spray, we put small amounts of gel exactly where they travel. They eat and return to shelter, and that is how the treatment reaches the ones you never see.
An insect growth regulator stops nymphs becoming breeding adults, and dust goes into wall voids and cavities where gel cannot reach.
American and Australian cockroaches are treated at source: pits, floor wastes, subfloor and roof void. Treating the kitchen alone just handles the ones that already made it in.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Kills the cockroach you can see | Does not reach egg cases or voids, and repels others deeper into walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Puts product across everything out in the open | Does not get into harbourage, coats your benchtops, and can split the colony up |
| Retail bait stations | Worth using when numbers are genuinely low | There is very little bait in them, and crumbs or grease will beat them every time |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Taken into the harbourage and shared around; if they tire of one gel we change it | Needs the kitchen clean behind it, and works over days rather than hours |
| Insect growth regulator | Prevents nymphs maturing, so the cycle of egg cases stops | Slow on its own, which is why it is never used without bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Cockroaches coming out in daylight and moving sluggishly is the normal first sign. The bait and growth regulator are working. Sweep up what you find and carry on.
Expect activity to taper off. The bait dots in hinges and cracks need to stay put, and nothing should be sprayed over them - that is what makes cockroaches avoid bait.
Still seeing them? Tell the agent or building manager, since the source is often a neighbouring lot. Apartment pest control explains what a building-wide job involves.

Sydney does not give cockroaches an off-season. Around Glenorie the warm, humid stretch from October through March drives breeding hardest, but a heated Hills District home keeps a kitchen population going through winter without pause.
In older Glenorie buildings a cockroach population can live entirely in the drain line and come up at night. Treating the kitchen and ignoring the pipework means you are treating the visitors, not the residents.
For a Glenorie cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
The species sets the method - gel and growth regulator indoors for German cockroaches, pits and subfloor for the drain dwellers.
Gel goes into the cracks and hinges. Nothing gets sprayed across the bench you prepare food on.
