What we cover in Bilgola, and how quickly we can get there.
Postcode 2107 covers Bilgola and the streets immediately around it. At about 27.2 km north-east of the CBD it falls in the Northern Beaches, where we have vans out daily. We cover Bilgola on scheduled runs through the Northern Beaches, and we will give you a firm time rather than a window.
The Bilgola addresses we attend cluster around Village Plaza and Palmgrove Park. Palmgrove Park is another part of the suburb we are called to often.
Under Northern Beaches, we cover Bilgola and Bilgola Beach, Bilgola Plateau and Avalon Beach alike. Salt air and sandy ground keep sub-floors damp here, and damp is what sustains a population.
What we see in Bilgola is ground-floor units with a damp sub-floor, and houses where the garage sits below the living level. Describing it accurately when you book saves a second visit.
We also work the streets near Eric Green Reserve and across toward Bilgola Bends Reserve - the whole of 2107 is covered.
Your appointment is confirmed the day before with a real arrival time. Because Bilgola Beach and Bilgola Plateau are covered on the same round, 2107 often has an earlier slot available.
The odour is a useful diagnostic. We can often tell from it how long a Bilgola problem has been running, and it is also why treatment includes advice on what to clean or discard afterwards.
Nobody gets bitten by a cockroach. The risk is what comes off their feet onto a Bilgola benchtop after a trip through the drain line, which matters most in a house with small children or anyone with a weakened immune system.
Heat is an accelerator. Through a Bilgola summer the cycle from egg case to breeding adult runs weeks faster than it does in July, which is why a small problem noticed in spring is worth dealing with before Christmas.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

The small indoor one - about 12 to 15 mm, light brown, with a pair of dark bands just behind the head. It stays close to warmth and water, which is why kitchens and bathrooms are where it establishes.

The largest one we deal with, around 4 cm and reddish-brown. Pits, sewers, grease traps and subfloors are where it breeds; the kitchen is somewhere it passes through at night.

Similar in size to the American cockroach but with pale yellow edges near the head and along the wings. Despite the name it is an outdoor species that comes in from gardens, mulch and subfloors.

A small species with pale bands across the body that prefers warm, dry spots higher up, such as behind picture frames, in electrical housings and inside cupboards away from water.

One of our Sydney inspections, showing German cockroach activity. The harbourage itself tells the story: droppings, cast skins and egg cases give us both the species and the scale.

Photo from an Elite job: cockroach harbourage inside commercial kitchen equipment. Motor housings, door seals and hollow legs stay warm overnight and are rarely cleaned.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches you can see without a torch, plus droppings like coarse pepper on cupboard edges | German cockroach - daytime sightings mean a lot of them | Hinges, the cavity behind the fridge, under the kickboards, in the housings of the appliances | Gel bait rotated through the job, a growth regulator, and crack-and-crevice work indoors |
| A single big one after dark by the laundry tub, the bathroom or a floor drain | American cockroach | Stormwater and sewer pits, the space under the floor, floor wastes that have dried out | Treating the pits and drains, the subfloor, and sealing the gaps where pipes pass through |
| Sizeable cockroaches with pale edging that appear in the garage or at a back door | Australian cockroach | Leaf litter and mulch, stacked timber, and the roof cavity | Treating the perimeter, dusting the roof void, and reducing harbourage in the garden |
| Small cockroaches found upstairs or in bedrooms rather than around the sink | Brown-banded cockroach | Dry, warm furniture and the inside of electrical appliances | Targeted bait placement through living and sleeping spaces |
| A flat that clears for a fortnight and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach moving through the building | Shared risers, the bin room, and cavities running between walls | A coordinated treatment across the block. See strata pest control |

A licensed Sydney technician will talk it through with you and give you a fixed quote within half an hour.
Roughly 30 eggs sit in a single case, and the female keeps it with her until it is nearly ready to hatch. Nothing you spray on a surface touches it.
Several egg cases per female, and nymphs maturing in weeks where it is warm - the arithmetic is why cockroach numbers climb so steeply once they are established.
A repellent product scatters rather than clears - deeper into the wall void, through to the unit next door - and leaves residue where food is prepared.
The allergen load - droppings, saliva, cast skins - is a recognised trigger for asthma and allergies, which is why clearing an infestation properly matters beyond the nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Species confirmation comes first, then the search. Torch and inspection mirror into cupboard hinges, appliance housings, the kickboard void and the wall cavity, so the treatment is aimed rather than general.
We identify the build-up that is feeding them and tell you what to deal with first. The less competing food there is, the harder the bait works.
Dots of professional gel are placed in the cracks they run through. One feeds, carries it back to the harbourage, and it works through the colony from the inside.
The growth regulator keeps nymphs from ever breeding; dust handles the wall voids and cavities that no gel dot can reach.
With American and Australian cockroaches the work is outside the kitchen: the pits, the floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void, because that is where they breed.
You get a written summary. If activity is still heavy after two weeks or returns within 6 months of a general treatment, we come back at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Takes care of the one in front of you | Does nothing to egg cases or voids, and drives the rest deeper into the walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers open surfaces in a room | Misses harbourage, leaves residue on benches, and can scatter the colony |
| Retail bait stations | Worth using when numbers are genuinely low | There is very little bait in them, and crumbs or grease will beat them every time |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Fed on where they shelter and passed between them, with formulations rotated as needed | Only works once competing food is gone, and takes days to a couple of weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops nymphs maturing into breeding adults, which breaks the egg-case cycle | Works slowly, so it is always paired with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
You may see cockroaches out in daylight, moving slowly or dying on the floor. This is the bait and growth regulator starting to work. Sweep them up and keep going.
Through the second week activity should fall away. Leave the bait in place in hinges and cracks, and resist spraying anything over it, which puts cockroaches off feeding.
Where activity continues, raise it with your agent or strata manager, because they cross between lots. See apartment pest control for how a building-wide treatment runs.
Call 1300 313 373 if activity is still steady after a fortnight, or if they come back within the 6 months a general treatment covers. The re-treatment is under warranty.
If your Bilgola neighbour has cockroaches, you have a supply line. The treatment still works, but it needs the entry points sealed and ideally the adjoining property done at the same time.
Humidity is the driver. In the Northern Beaches the summer months bring the fastest breeding, and the mild winters mean a population indoors never really slows - it just gets quieter.
We are around Barefoot Boulevard Shopping Village and the streets behind it most weeks, and we cover every address in 2107, not just the main roads.
Treatment follows identification. Indoor German cockroaches need bait and a growth regulator; drain-dwelling species need the pits and subfloor treated.
We bait into cracks and hinges instead of spraying benchtops, because that is where food is prepared.
We cover everything from one apartment to a full commercial kitchen, scheduled around your trading hours.
If cockroaches return inside 6 months of a general treatment, we come back free of charge.

At roughly 27.2 km north-east of the city, Bilgola is on a route we run regularly. We cover it on scheduled runs, so a day's notice gets you the best slot. You will be given a time, not a window.
The air never really dries out near the water, so sub-floors and lower rooms hold moisture through the year. cockroaches need that damp more than they need food, and here they always have it.
Units close to the water, houses further back, and sub-floors that hold moisture in both.
We do all of those. A good share of the Bilgola jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
Yes, with the usual care. Everything is APVMA-registered and used to label, and we will work around pets, aquariums and anyone in the house with a respiratory condition if you tell us when you book.
Generally no. We will tell you on arrival if any part of the job means keeping out of a room for a while, so there are no surprises.
Allow one to two hours for a typical Bilgola property. Larger homes, or ones where the problem has spread, take longer and we will say so when we quote.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. Call us if activity picks up again and we will arrange the return visit.
Yes. As well as Bilgola we cover Bilgola Beach, Bilgola Plateau, Avalon Beach and Avalon on the same runs, so a job that crosses a boundary can be handled in one visit.
