What we cover in Bligh Park, and how quickly we can get there.
We treat cockroaches right across 2756. Bligh Park is roughly 45.8 km north-west of the city, which puts it well inside the Hawkesbury & the Rural North-West run our technicians work. We travel out to Bligh Park on planned runs through the Hawkesbury & the Rural North-West, so booking a day ahead gets you the best slot.
A lot of our Bligh Park jobs are in the streets around Windsor Downs Nature Reserve and Windsor Golf Course, and we are out near Bligh Park Shopping Centre regularly enough that the technician usually knows the access before they arrive.
This is the Hawkesbury area, and our runs here also take in South Windsor, Windsor Downs and Windsor. On larger blocks the outbuildings, sheds and woodpiles are usually where the problem is sitting, so they are part of the inspection.
What we see in Bligh Park is larger blocks where the shed or the woodpile turns out to be the source. Describing it accurately when you book saves a second visit.
The whole of 2756 is on our regular run.
When you book, we confirm the 2756 run the day before and give you an arrival time rather than a window. If we are already out at South Windsor or Windsor Downs that morning, we will usually offer you the earlier slot.
Where Bligh Park housing shares walls and roof voids - semis, terraces, unit blocks - the population is usually shared too. We say so up front rather than treating one flat and letting you discover it a month later.
Worth knowing before you blame yourself: this species is almost always introduced. Flatten cardboard rather than storing it, and check any used appliance before it comes inside.
The population is not on your bench. It is in the warm, dark, humid gaps - behind the kickboard, inside the dishwasher housing, under the fridge motor, in the hinge of a cupboard door. A Bligh Park treatment that only covers surfaces has not touched the nest.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

The small indoor one - about 12 to 15 mm, light brown, with a pair of dark bands just behind the head. It stays close to warmth and water, which is why kitchens and bathrooms are where it establishes.

Large and reddish-brown, up to about 4 cm. It lives in sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps and subfloors, and comes up through drains at night rather than breeding in the kitchen.

Similar in size to the American cockroach, told apart by the yellow margins at the head and wing edges. An outdoor species - gardens, mulch, the subfloor - that makes its way in.

A small cockroach with light bands across the body, found away from water in warm dry positions: behind frames, in electrical fittings, in cupboards at height.

From one of our own inspections: German cockroach harbourage in a Sydney kitchen. The droppings, shed skins and egg cases are what we read to judge the species and the size of the population.

Taken on an Elite commercial job - harbourage inside the equipment itself. Motor cavities, door seals and hollow legs stay warm all night and rarely see a cloth.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cockroaches barely 15 mm out in the open by day, with dark pepper-like specks where cupboards meet | German cockroach, and an established one | Inside hinges, appliance cavities, the kickboard void, the housings of the appliances themselves | Gel baits rotated through the job, a growth regulator, and crack-and-crevice application indoors |
| One or two large cockroaches at night near the laundry, bathroom or floor waste | American cockroach | Sewer and stormwater pits, subfloor, dry floor-waste traps | Drain and pit treatment, subfloor, sealing gaps around pipes |
| Large cockroaches edged in pale yellow, around the garage or just inside a back door | Australian cockroach | Mulch and leaf litter, woodpiles, and up in the roof void | Perimeter work outside, a dusting of the roof void, and clearing the garden harbourage |
| Small cockroaches turning up in bedrooms and living rooms, never around the sink | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry furniture, and the inside of electrical appliances | Bait placed through the living and sleeping areas where they actually are |
| A flat that clears for a fortnight and then has cockroaches again | German cockroach moving through the building | Shared risers, the bin room, and cavities running between walls | A coordinated treatment across the block. See strata pest control |

The egg case - around 30 eggs, carried by the female until just before hatching - is shielded from anything applied to a surface. That is why the population reappears after a DIY attempt.
One female produces several egg cases, and in a warm kitchen the young reach maturity within weeks. That is how a handful becomes a serious problem in a short time.
Bombs and supermarket sprays push cockroaches deeper into wall voids and into the unit next door, and can contaminate the surfaces you prepare food on.
Cockroach droppings, saliva and cast skins are recognised triggers for allergies and asthma, so a lingering infestation is a health issue as well as a nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
We confirm the species and use a torch and inspection mirror to find harbourage: hinges, appliance housings, kickboards and wall voids. The treatment follows what we find, not a standard routine.
We identify the build-up that is feeding them and tell you what to deal with first. The less competing food there is, the harder the bait works.
Dots of professional gel are placed in the cracks they run through. One feeds, carries it back to the harbourage, and it works through the colony from the inside.
Two products with different jobs: the growth regulator stops nymphs maturing, and dust carries the treatment into voids and cavities beyond the reach of gel.
With American and Australian cockroaches the work is outside the kitchen: the pits, the floor wastes, the subfloor and the roof void, because that is where they breed.
Everything is recorded in writing. Still seeing heavy activity after a fortnight, or it returns inside the 6-month warranty on a general treatment? We return at no cost.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Deals with the individual in front of you | Never touches the egg cases or the voids, and drives the rest further into the walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers a whole room's open surfaces at once | Harbourage is untouched, benches end up with residue, and the population spreads out |
| Retail bait stations | A sensible first try on a light problem | Bait volume is too low for a colony, and competing food beats it |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Taken into the harbourage and shared around; if they tire of one gel we change it | Needs the kitchen clean behind it, and works over days rather than hours |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops the next generation maturing, breaking the cycle of egg cases | Deliberately slow, so bait does the knockdown alongside it |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Seeing more of them at first is expected. They come out, move slowly and die - the bait and growth regulator doing their job. Sweep up and leave everything else alone.
Expect activity to taper off. The bait dots in hinges and cracks need to stay put, and nothing should be sprayed over them - that is what makes cockroaches avoid bait.
Where activity continues, raise it with your agent or strata manager, because they cross between lots. See apartment pest control for how a building-wide treatment runs.
Ring 1300 313 373 for a warranty re-treatment if steady activity continues past two weeks, or if cockroaches return within 6 months of a general treatment.
In older Bligh Park buildings a cockroach population can live entirely in the drain line and come up at night. Treating the kitchen and ignoring the pipework means you are treating the visitors, not the residents.
For a Bligh Park cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
We are around Bligh Park Shopping Centre and the streets behind it most weeks, and we cover every address in 2756, not just the main roads.
Treatment follows identification. Indoor German cockroaches need bait and a growth regulator; drain-dwelling species need the pits and subfloor treated.
We bait into cracks and hinges instead of spraying benchtops, because that is where food is prepared.
Apartments through to commercial kitchens, with food businesses serviced when they are closed.
Cockroaches back within 6 months of a general treatment? We return at no charge.
