Local technicians, fixed prices and a written report for every job in Canada Bay.
Canada Bay sits about 8.8 km west of the CBD in the Inner West, and postcode 2046 is one we are in most weeks. Our technicians are through Canada Bay most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
Our Canada Bay work takes in the streets by Westfield Burwood and Massey Park Golf Course, through to Burwood station at the other end.
This is the Inner West, Burwood, Strathfield and Canada Bay area, and our runs here also take in Concord, Five Dock and Croydon. Most of the housing here shares a wall, a roof void or a sub-floor with something else, so we check what adjoins the property rather than treating it in isolation.
What we see in Canada Bay is apartments and converted blocks where the kitchen backs onto a service riser. Describing it accurately when you book saves a second visit.
Beyond that we are regularly around Cintra Park Tennis and Sports Centre, and out as far as Five Dock Leisure Centre. If you are anywhere in 2046, you are inside the area we run.
Bookings for 2046 are confirmed the day before with a set arrival time, not an all-day window. Jobs at Concord and Five Dock often share the same run, which is how earlier slots come up.
One at night is a cockroach. One at midday is a population. When harbourage fills up they are forced into the open to find somewhere else, which is why daytime activity changes how we scope the job.
The usual route into a Canada Bay home is carried, not crawled. Appliance deliveries, recycled cartons and second-hand white goods are the three we trace most often.
Nobody gets bitten by a cockroach. The risk is what comes off their feet onto a Canada Bay benchtop after a trip through the drain line, which matters most in a house with small children or anyone with a weakened immune system.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

The small indoor one - about 12 to 15 mm, light brown, with a pair of dark bands just behind the head. It stays close to warmth and water, which is why kitchens and bathrooms are where it establishes.

The largest one we deal with, around 4 cm and reddish-brown. Pits, sewers, grease traps and subfloors are where it breeds; the kitchen is somewhere it passes through at night.

Similar in size to the American cockroach but with pale yellow edges near the head and along the wings. Despite the name it is an outdoor species that comes in from gardens, mulch and subfloors.

Small and marked with pale bands. It is the one that does not want water, so it settles high and dry - behind pictures, inside electrical housings, in the top cupboards.

An Elite job photo of German cockroach activity on a Sydney inspection. Egg cases, shed skins and droppings in the harbourage are how we work out what we are dealing with.

Taken on an Elite commercial job - harbourage inside the equipment itself. Motor cavities, door seals and hollow legs stay warm all night and rarely see a cloth.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small cockroaches moving about in daylight, and droppings like ground pepper along shelf edges | German cockroach, well established by the time they show in the day | Door hinges, the voids behind white goods, the kickboard space, the inside of appliances | Indoor work: bait rotation, a growth regulator, and placement into every crack and crevice |
| A large cockroach or two after dark, always near a drain, the laundry or the bathroom | American cockroach | The sewer and stormwater pits, the subfloor, and floor-waste traps that have dried out | Pit and drain treatment, the subfloor, and sealing the gaps around pipe penetrations |
| Sizeable cockroaches with pale edging that appear in the garage or at a back door | Australian cockroach | Leaf litter and mulch, stacked timber, and the roof cavity | Treating the perimeter, dusting the roof void, and reducing harbourage in the garden |
| Small cockroaches turning up in bedrooms and living rooms, never around the sink | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry furniture, and the inside of electrical appliances | Bait placed through the living and sleeping areas where they actually are |
| Cockroaches that always come back to the flat no matter how well you treat your own kitchen | German cockroach moving around the block | Shared service risers, the bin room, and cavities inside the party walls | Treating the whole building together. See strata pest control |

Each German cockroach egg case carries roughly 30 eggs and stays with the female almost until they hatch. Surface sprays never reach it, so the following generation arrives regardless.
Multiply several egg cases per female by nymphs that mature in a few warm weeks and you have the reason a minor sighting turns into an infestation.
Bombs and supermarket sprays push cockroaches deeper into wall voids and into the unit next door, and can contaminate the surfaces you prepare food on.
What they leave behind matters: droppings, saliva and cast skins are known asthma and allergy triggers, so this is a health question as much as a comfort one.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
We identify the species, then go looking with a torch and mirror - hinges, inside appliances, behind the kickboards, into the wall voids. What we find decides the treatment, not a set routine.
If grease or food residue is sustaining the population, we point out exactly what to clean and in what order. Bait competes with whatever else is available, so this step changes the result.
Rather than spray, we put small amounts of gel exactly where they travel. They eat and return to shelter, and that is how the treatment reaches the ones you never see.
A growth regulator prevents the young reaching breeding age, while dust treats the wall voids and cavities that gel placement cannot get into.
American and Australian cockroaches are treated at source: pits, floor wastes, subfloor and roof void. Treating the kitchen alone just handles the ones that already made it in.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Takes care of the one in front of you | Does nothing to egg cases or voids, and drives the rest deeper into the walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Easy coverage of the exposed parts of a room | Never reaches the hiding places, leaves residue where you cook, and scatters them |
| Retail bait stations | Useful for a light problem | Low bait volume, and easily out-competed by crumbs and grease |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Taken back into the harbourage and passed on; we can change formulation if they go off one | Wants a clean kitchen behind it, and takes days to a fortnight rather than minutes |
| Insect growth regulator | Prevents the young reaching breeding age, which ends the egg-case cycle | Slow by design, so we never use it on its own - it goes in with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Cockroaches coming out in daylight and moving sluggishly is the normal first sign. The bait and growth regulator are working. Sweep up what you find and carry on.
You should see a steady decline. Leave the gel where we put it in hinges and cracks, and keep your own insecticide away from it, or they will refuse to feed.
Where activity continues, raise it with your agent or strata manager, because they cross between lots. See apartment pest control for how a building-wide treatment runs.

If cockroaches keep appearing in a Canada Bay bathroom rather than the kitchen, the drain is the first thing we check. They travel the pipework between units and come up wherever the seal has dried out.
The pattern we see across Canada Bay and the wider Inner West is a surge after the first properly warm week, then steady pressure until autumn. Treating before that surge is far cheaper than treating after it.
A good share of our Canada Bay work sits close to Westfield Burwood, though the back streets and the Concord boundary are just as familiar.
The species sets the method - gel and growth regulator indoors for German cockroaches, pits and subfloor for the drain dwellers.
Precise gel placement into cracks and hinges rather than spraying the surfaces you cook on.
From single apartments to commercial kitchens serviced outside trading hours.
A general treatment is covered for 6 months. Cockroaches inside that period mean a free return visit.

Older inner suburbs combine shared structure with ageing drainage, and cockroaches exploit both. Rear courtyards that have been paved over make it worse by trapping damp against the walls.
Older joined housing. The treatment takes account of shared walls, continuous sub-floors and roof voids that run between properties.
