What we cover in Alexandria, and how quickly we can get there.
We treat cockroaches right across 2015. Alexandria is roughly 4.7 km south of the city, which puts it well inside the Inner South & City Fringe run our technicians work. Our technicians are through Alexandria most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
Most weeks we are somewhere between St Peters station and Alexandria Technology Park in Alexandria, and Jack Floyd Reserve is close enough to be on the same run.
City of Sydney and Bayside is the council area for Alexandria, and we treat Erskineville, Beaconsfield and Newtown on the same schedule. Terraces, semis and converted blocks share cavities and risers, which is why a single-unit treatment often does not hold on its own.
The cockroach calls we take from Alexandria are mostly older semis with a paved rear courtyard and a sub-floor that no longer dries out. If yours is one of them, mention it when you ring 1300 313 373 - it changes what the technician brings.
We cover the remainder of 2015 as well, from Park Sydney Village through to The Australian Golf Club.
You get a confirmed time, not a window. We plan the 2015 run the day before, and if Erskineville or Beaconsfield is on the same round there is often an earlier slot going.
Floor wastes, overflow pipes and the gap where a waste pipe passes through a cupboard base are all cockroach routes. A dry floor waste in a Alexandria laundry is an open door, and a cup of water down it once a week closes it.
The health case is mostly about allergens. Droppings and cast skins are a recognised asthma trigger, and in a Alexandria flat with a long-standing population that material works its way into carpet and soft furnishings.
Get the species wrong and the treatment fails. The small ones breeding under your Alexandria sink want gel bait placed where they feed. The big ones wandering in from the garden want a perimeter barrier. Doing the second when you needed the first wastes the visit.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, roughly 12 to 15 mm long. It lives indoors near warmth, food and moisture, and it is the species that breeds fastest inside a kitchen.

Large and reddish-brown, up to about 4 cm. It lives in sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps and subfloors, and comes up through drains at night rather than breeding in the kitchen.

Similar in size to the American cockroach, told apart by the yellow margins at the head and wing edges. An outdoor species - gardens, mulch, the subfloor - that makes its way in.

A small species with pale bands across the body that prefers warm, dry spots higher up, such as behind picture frames, in electrical housings and inside cupboards away from water.

One of our Sydney inspections, showing German cockroach activity. The harbourage itself tells the story: droppings, cast skins and egg cases give us both the species and the scale.

Photo from an Elite job: cockroach harbourage inside commercial kitchen equipment. Motor housings, door seals and hollow legs stay warm overnight and are rarely cleaned.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cockroaches barely 15 mm out in the open by day, with dark pepper-like specks where cupboards meet | German cockroach, and an established one | Inside hinges, appliance cavities, the kickboard void, the housings of the appliances themselves | Gel baits rotated through the job, a growth regulator, and crack-and-crevice application indoors |
| A single big one after dark by the laundry tub, the bathroom or a floor drain | American cockroach | Stormwater and sewer pits, the space under the floor, floor wastes that have dried out | Treating the pits and drains, the subfloor, and sealing the gaps where pipes pass through |
| Big cockroaches with pale yellow margins, usually in the garage or arriving from outside | Australian cockroach | Garden mulch, leaf litter, stacked firewood and the roof cavity | Perimeter treatment outside, dusting the roof void, and dealing with garden harbourage |
| Small cockroaches turning up in bedrooms and living rooms, never around the sink | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry furniture, and the inside of electrical appliances | Bait placed through the living and sleeping areas where they actually are |
| An apartment where they come back a few weeks after you treated it yourself | German cockroach travelling between lots | The service risers, the bin room and the wall cavities the units share | Treating the building as one job. See strata pest control |

A German cockroach egg case holds about 30 eggs and travels with the female until hatching is close. Kill the adults you can see and the next generation still arrives.
One female produces several egg cases, and in a warm kitchen the young reach maturity within weeks. That is how a handful becomes a serious problem in a short time.
A repellent product scatters rather than clears - deeper into the wall void, through to the unit next door - and leaves residue where food is prepared.
Cockroach droppings, saliva and cast skins are recognised triggers for allergies and asthma, so a lingering infestation is a health issue as well as a nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Species confirmation comes first, then the search. Torch and inspection mirror into cupboard hinges, appliance housings, the kickboard void and the wall cavity, so the treatment is aimed rather than general.
Where build-up is feeding them, you will get a short list of what to clean and the order to do it in - bait has to out-compete everything else available.
We place gel in precise dots along their travel routes rather than spraying. They feed, return to the harbourage, and the effect spreads through the population by contact and feeding.
The growth regulator keeps nymphs from ever breeding; dust handles the wall voids and cavities that no gel dot can reach.
American and Australian cockroaches are treated at source: pits, floor wastes, subfloor and roof void. Treating the kitchen alone just handles the ones that already made it in.
You receive a written summary of what was found and done. Heavy activity after two weeks, or a return within the 6-month general-treatment warranty, brings us back free of charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Quick on a cockroach you can actually reach | No effect on egg cases or harbourage, and it pushes the others deeper into cavities |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Treats the exposed surfaces of a room in one go | Nothing reaches the hiding places, residue settles on food surfaces, and the colony scatters |
| Retail bait stations | Can help if you have only seen a few | The bait volume is small, and competing food such as grease wins out |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Carried home and shared where they shelter; if they start refusing one gel we rotate to another | Requires a clean kitchen and patience - days to a couple of weeks, not overnight |
| Insect growth regulator | Prevents the young reaching breeding age, which ends the egg-case cycle | Slow by design, so we never use it on its own - it goes in with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Seeing more of them at first is expected. They come out, move slowly and die - the bait and growth regulator doing their job. Sweep up and leave everything else alone.
Expect activity to taper off. The bait dots in hinges and cracks need to stay put, and nothing should be sprayed over them - that is what makes cockroaches avoid bait.
Tell your agent or building manager if activity continues, as cockroaches often travel between lots. Our apartment pest control page explains building-wide options.
Steady activity at the two-week mark, or a return inside 6 months of a general treatment, means a warranty re-treatment - ring 1300 313 373.
For a Alexandria cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
Where Alexandria housing shares walls and roof voids - semis, terraces, unit blocks - the population is usually shared too. We say so up front rather than treating one flat and letting you discover it a month later.
Sydney does not give cockroaches an off-season. Around Alexandria the warm, humid stretch from October through March drives breeding hardest, but a heated Inner South & City Fringe home keeps a kitchen population going through winter without pause.
What we use depends on what you have: baits and growth regulators for German cockroaches, pit and subfloor treatment for the drain species.
We bait into cracks and hinges instead of spraying benchtops, because that is where food is prepared.
One flat or a whole commercial kitchen - food premises are done outside trading hours.
A general treatment is covered for 6 months. Cockroaches inside that period mean a free return visit.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. What changes the figure is the size of the building, how many areas are affected and the access. You get that number up front for Alexandria 2015, with no call-out fee. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
Same-day attendance is usually available. Alexandria is about 4.7 km south of the CBD in the Inner South & City Fringe, and we give you a firm arrival time rather than an all-day window.
Joined housing is the reason. Where walls, roof voids and sub-floors are continuous between properties, cockroaches are a street-level problem rather than a house-level one.
Joined housing with ageing drainage. That combination decides where product goes far more than the floor plan does.
Yes - freestanding homes, townhouses, apartments, rentals and business premises in Alexandria 2015 are all covered, with documentation suitable for an agent or a strata manager.
It is, applied properly. We put product into cracks, voids and stations rather than across open surfaces, and we will tell you what to stay off and for how long before we leave.
You do not normally need to leave. Anything requiring an empty room is short, and you will know about it before the work starts.
An hour to two hours covers most jobs. The size of the building and the extent of the problem are what change it.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. Call us if activity picks up again and we will arrange the return visit.
We do. Alexandria and Erskineville, Beaconsfield, Newtown and St Peters are all on the same route, which helps if you own more than one property in the area.
