Days 1 to 3
You may see cockroaches out in daylight, moving slowly or dying on the floor. This is the bait and growth regulator starting to work. Sweep them up and keep going.

Where Laughtondale sits, who covers it and what it costs.
Laughtondale is part of the Hawkesbury & the Rural North-West, 51.6 km or so north of the GPO, and 2775 is a postcode we know well. We travel out to Laughtondale on planned runs through the Hawkesbury & the Rural North-West, so booking a day ahead gets you the best slot.
Del Rio Golf Course is the part of Laughtondale we attend most often.
We work under the Hawkesbury area here, and Lower Hawkesbury, Maroota and Singletons Mill are all on the same route, which matters when cockroach problems are moving between adjoining properties. On larger blocks the outbuildings, sheds and woodpiles are usually where the problem is sitting, so they are part of the inspection.
What we see in Laughtondale is rural-residential homes where it started in a stable or a feed store. Describing it accurately when you book saves a second visit.
Every part of 2775 is covered as standard.
Your appointment is confirmed the day before with a real arrival time. Because Lower Hawkesbury and Maroota are covered on the same round, 2775 often has an earlier slot available.
A cockroach can last weeks on almost nothing to eat but only days without water. That is why perfectly clean Laughtondale kitchens still get them: a dripping tap, a sweating pipe or a damp dishwasher seal is enough.
Cockroaches do not respect a lease boundary. In a Laughtondale block they move through service risers, shared drains and the cavity between units, so treating one kitchen in a building with a problem is money spent on a holding pattern.
The egg case is what beats most people. Forty young in a case the female keeps with her until hatching is close, and nothing you spray on a surface gets near it. A Laughtondale kitchen can go quiet for two weeks and then be busier than before.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

At 12 to 15 mm and light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, this is the species we find living permanently indoors. Warmth, food and moisture are all it needs, and it reproduces faster than any other cockroach here.

Large and reddish-brown, up to about 4 cm. It lives in sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps and subfloors, and comes up through drains at night rather than breeding in the kitchen.

As big as the American but marked with pale yellow along the edge of the wings and behind the head. The name misleads: this one lives outside in mulch and garden beds and only comes indoors to look about.

A small cockroach with light bands across the body, found away from water in warm dry positions: behind frames, in electrical fittings, in cupboards at height.

Photo from an Elite job: German cockroach activity found during a Sydney inspection. Droppings, cast skins and egg cases in the harbourage tell us the species and how established it is.

From a commercial kitchen we service: cockroach harbourage inside the machinery. Hollow legs, door seals and motor housings keep their heat overnight and are almost never cleaned.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cockroaches barely 15 mm out in the open by day, with dark pepper-like specks where cupboards meet | German cockroach, and an established one | Inside hinges, appliance cavities, the kickboard void, the housings of the appliances themselves | Gel baits rotated through the job, a growth regulator, and crack-and-crevice application indoors |
| Big cockroaches seen after dark near a floor waste, the bathroom or the laundry | American cockroach | Sewer and stormwater pits and the subfloor - plus dried-out waste traps as the way in | We treat the pits, the drain lines and the subfloor, then seal around the pipework |
| Yellow-edged cockroaches in the garage, or coming through a door from the garden | Australian cockroach | Mulch and leaf litter, woodpiles, and the roof void | External perimeter, a dusting through the roof void, and clearing garden harbourage |
| Little banded cockroaches behind a picture frame or inside the TV unit, away from any water | Brown-banded cockroach | Dry warm spots in furniture and inside electrical gear | Targeted baiting in the rooms you live and sleep in, not the kitchen |
| Cockroaches returning to a unit however often you treat your own kitchen | German cockroach crossing between units | Common service risers, bin rooms, and the wall cavities that link lots | Treatment coordinated building-wide. See strata pest control |

One call to a licensed Sydney technician gets you honest advice and a fixed quote within 30 minutes.
A German cockroach egg case holds around 30 eggs, and the female carries it until shortly before hatching. Killing adults on the surface leaves the next generation untouched.
Several egg cases per female, and nymphs maturing in weeks where it is warm - the arithmetic is why cockroach numbers climb so steeply once they are established.
Supermarket sprays and bombs repel. The colony moves further into the cavity, or next door, and your benchtops end up with residue on them.
The allergen load - droppings, saliva, cast skins - is a recognised trigger for asthma and allergies, which is why clearing an infestation properly matters beyond the nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Step one is knowing which cockroach you have. Step two is finding where it shelters: torch and inspection mirror through hinges, appliance cavities, kickboards and wall voids.
If grease or food residue is sustaining the population, we point out exactly what to clean and in what order. Bait competes with whatever else is available, so this step changes the result.
We place gel in precise dots along their travel routes rather than spraying. They feed, return to the harbourage, and the effect spreads through the population by contact and feeding.
An insect growth regulator stops nymphs becoming breeding adults, and dust goes into wall voids and cavities where gel cannot reach.
American and Australian cockroaches are treated at source: pits, floor wastes, subfloor and roof void. Treating the kitchen alone just handles the ones that already made it in.
You get a written summary. If activity is still heavy after two weeks or returns within 6 months of a general treatment, we come back at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Kills the cockroach you can see | Does not reach egg cases or voids, and repels others deeper into walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Treats the exposed surfaces of a room in one go | Nothing reaches the hiding places, residue settles on food surfaces, and the colony scatters |
| Retail bait stations | Reasonable for a minor, early problem | Too little bait to clear a colony, and easily out-competed by crumbs and grease |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Eaten and shared in the hiding places; formulations can be rotated if cockroaches avoid one | Needs a clean kitchen and time to work, usually days to a couple of weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Prevents the young reaching breeding age, which ends the egg-case cycle | Slow by design, so we never use it on its own - it goes in with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
You may see cockroaches out in daylight, moving slowly or dying on the floor. This is the bait and growth regulator starting to work. Sweep them up and keep going.
Activity should fall steadily. Leave bait spots in hinges and cracks alone, and avoid spraying your own insecticide over them, which can make cockroaches refuse the bait.
Tell your agent or building manager if activity continues, as cockroaches often travel between lots. Our apartment pest control page explains building-wide options.
Steady activity at the two-week mark, or a return inside 6 months of a general treatment, means a warranty re-treatment - ring 1300 313 373.
For a Laughtondale cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
We are around Del Rio Golf Course and the streets behind it most weeks, and we cover every address in 2775, not just the main roads.
In older Laughtondale buildings a cockroach population can live entirely in the drain line and come up at night. Treating the kitchen and ignoring the pipework means you are treating the visitors, not the residents.
What we use depends on what you have: baits and growth regulators for German cockroaches, pit and subfloor treatment for the drain species.
Bait placed in cracks and hinges, not a blanket spray over food preparation surfaces.
From single apartments to commercial kitchens serviced outside trading hours.
General treatments carry 6 months: a return within that window brings us back at no cost.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. Two things move it: how big the place is, and how far it has already spread. We work that out on the phone or on site and tell you the figure before anything starts in Laughtondale. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
We cover it on scheduled runs, so a day's notice gets you the best slot. We are about 51.6 km north of the city here, and Laughtondale is covered by the Hawkesbury & the Rural North-West team.
On larger blocks the house is usually not where it starts. Sheds, woodpiles, feed stores and outbuildings give cockroaches somewhere established to live before they ever reach the house.
Acreage and rural-residential homes. We inspect the outbuildings and woodpiles alongside the house.
We do. A lot of our Laughtondale work is rentals and strata, so the report, the products used and the areas treated are all recorded in writing for whoever needs them.
Yes, applied correctly. Products are registered for this use, placed out of reach rather than across open surfaces, and you will know what to stay off and for how long.
Usually not. Most cockroach control work is done with you there, and anything that needs the room vacated is for a short period we will tell you about beforehand.
For a standard Laughtondale home, one to two hours. We would rather tell you it will take longer up front than rush it.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. Call us if activity picks up again and we will arrange the return visit.
Yes - we work right across the Hawkesbury area, which takes in Laughtondale and the suburbs around it.
