Expect more sightings, not fewer - slow-moving cockroaches out in the open or dead on the floor. That is the bait and growth regulator taking effect. Sweep them up.

Where Greystanes sits, who covers it and what it costs.
Greystanes sits about 24.4 km west of the CBD in the Greater Parramatta & Cumberland, and postcode 2145 is one we are in most weeks. We run Greystanes on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
Our Greystanes work takes in the streets by Benaud Street Park and Hyland Road Reserve, through to Greystanes Shopping Centre at the other end.
City of Parramatta and Cumberland is the council area for Greystanes, and we treat Merrylands West, Pemulwuy and Pendle Hill on the same schedule. Terraces, semis and converted blocks share cavities and risers, which is why a single-unit treatment often does not hold on its own.
Greystanes jobs tend to be apartments and converted blocks where the kitchen backs onto a service riser. Let us know which when you ring and we will plan the visit around it.
We also work the area near Cumberland Country Golf Course, and the rest of 2145 with it.
We confirm your slot the day before and arrive at a stated time. Merrylands West and Pemulwuy sit on the same run, so earlier appointments in 2145 come up regularly.
In older Greystanes buildings a cockroach population can live entirely in the drain line and come up at night. Treating the kitchen and ignoring the pipework means you are treating the visitors, not the residents.
The allergen is the part people underestimate. Cockroach droppings and shed skins are a recognised asthma trigger, and in a Greystanes unit with an established population the load builds up in soft furnishings.
The population is not on your bench. It is in the warm, dark, humid gaps - behind the kickboard, inside the dishwasher housing, under the fridge motor, in the hinge of a cupboard door. A Greystanes treatment that only covers surfaces has not touched the nest.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

At 12 to 15 mm and light brown with two dark stripes behind the head, this is the species we find living permanently indoors. Warmth, food and moisture are all it needs, and it reproduces faster than any other cockroach here.

Large and reddish-brown, up to about 4 cm. It lives in sewers, stormwater pits, grease traps and subfloors, and comes up through drains at night rather than breeding in the kitchen.

About the same size as the American, distinguished by pale yellow margins behind the head and along the wing edges. It is an outdoor cockroach - mulch, garden beds and subfloors - that wanders inside.

A small species with pale bands across the body that prefers warm, dry spots higher up, such as behind picture frames, in electrical housings and inside cupboards away from water.

One of our Sydney inspections, showing German cockroach activity. The harbourage itself tells the story: droppings, cast skins and egg cases give us both the species and the scale.

From an Elite commercial job: harbourage found inside kitchen equipment. The motor housing, the door seal and the hollow leg hold warmth after close and almost never get cleaned out.
Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| A dozen small cockroaches on the bench in broad daylight, with dark specks in the cupboard corners | German cockroach, already a heavy infestation | The hinge of a cupboard door, behind the dishwasher and fridge, the kickboard void, inside appliances | Bait rotation and a growth regulator, applied into cracks and crevices right through the kitchen |
| The occasional large cockroach at night in a wet area rather than a group in the kitchen | American cockroach | Pits, the subfloor, and floor wastes that are no longer holding water | Drain and pit treatment plus subfloor work, with pipe gaps sealed afterwards |
| Large cockroaches with yellow edging, seen in the garage or coming in from the garden | Australian cockroach | Mulch, leaf litter, woodpiles, roof void | External perimeter, roof void dusting, garden harbourage |
| Little banded cockroaches behind a picture frame or inside the TV unit, away from any water | Brown-banded cockroach | Dry warm spots in furniture and inside electrical gear | Targeted baiting in the rooms you live and sleep in, not the kitchen |
| A unit where the problem never quite ends, weeks after a DIY attempt | German cockroach spreading from a neighbouring lot | Shared risers and bin rooms, plus the cavities inside shared walls | A building-wide, coordinated treatment. See strata pest control |

A German cockroach egg case holds about 30 eggs and travels with the female until hatching is close. Kill the adults you can see and the next generation still arrives.
Several egg cases per female, and nymphs maturing in weeks where it is warm - the arithmetic is why cockroach numbers climb so steeply once they are established.
A repellent product scatters rather than clears - deeper into the wall void, through to the unit next door - and leaves residue where food is prepared.
Droppings, saliva and shed skins are established asthma and allergy triggers. An infestation left in place is a health problem, not only an unpleasant one.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
Step one is knowing which cockroach you have. Step two is finding where it shelters: torch and inspection mirror through hinges, appliance cavities, kickboards and wall voids.
Where grease or food build-up is feeding the colony, we show you what to clean first. Bait works far better when it is the most attractive food in the room.
We place gel in precise dots along their travel routes rather than spraying. They feed, return to the harbourage, and the effect spreads through the population by contact and feeding.
The growth regulator keeps nymphs from ever breeding; dust handles the wall voids and cavities that no gel dot can reach.
The outdoor species need outdoor treatment - stormwater pits, floor wastes, under the floor and the roof cavity, which is where they actually live before they reach your kitchen.
We leave you a written record of the job. If it is still heavy at two weeks, or comes back inside the 6 months a general treatment carries, we return at no charge.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Takes care of the one in front of you | Does nothing to egg cases or voids, and drives the rest deeper into the walls |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers open surfaces in a room | Misses harbourage, leaves residue on benches, and can scatter the colony |
| Retail bait stations | Worth using when numbers are genuinely low | There is very little bait in them, and crumbs or grease will beat them every time |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Carried home and shared where they shelter; if they start refusing one gel we rotate to another | Requires a clean kitchen and patience - days to a couple of weeks, not overnight |
| Insect growth regulator | Keeps nymphs from becoming breeding adults, so the egg-case cycle stops | It acts gradually, which is why it is always paired with a bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Expect more sightings, not fewer - slow-moving cockroaches out in the open or dead on the floor. That is the bait and growth regulator taking effect. Sweep them up.
Through the second week activity should fall away. Leave the bait in place in hinges and cracks, and resist spraying anything over it, which puts cockroaches off feeding.
Where activity continues, raise it with your agent or strata manager, because they cross between lots. See apartment pest control for how a building-wide treatment runs.
If you still see steady activity after two weeks, or cockroaches return within 6 months of a general treatment, call 1300 313 373 for a warranty re-treatment.
Humidity is the driver. In the Greater Parramatta & Cumberland the summer months bring the fastest breeding, and the mild winters mean a population indoors never really slows - it just gets quieter.
Cockroaches do not respect a lease boundary. In a Greystanes block they move through service risers, shared drains and the cavity between units, so treating one kitchen in a building with a problem is money spent on a holding pattern.
For a Greystanes cafe or restaurant the standard is different: a documented program, a site plan with numbered monitoring points, and a report an auditor will accept. We work to that rather than turning up with a spray pack.
The species sets the method - gel and growth regulator indoors for German cockroaches, pits and subfloor for the drain dwellers.
Gel goes into the cracks and hinges. Nothing gets sprayed across the bench you prepare food on.
One flat or a whole commercial kitchen - food premises are done outside trading hours.
General treatments carry 6 months: a return within that window brings us back at no cost.

Get a Free QuoteA cockroach treatment starts from $89. Two things move it: how big the place is, and how far it has already spread. We work that out on the phone or on site and tell you the figure before anything starts in Greystanes. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
Same-day attendance is usually available. Greystanes sits roughly 24.4 km west of the CBD, inside our Greater Parramatta & Cumberland run, so we book a time and keep to it.
The housing stock is old and joined together. A shared wall cavity or a continuous sub-floor lets cockroaches travel from one property to the next, which is why your neighbour matters.
Joined older housing, often with a paved rear courtyard holding damp against the wall. Both things shape the treatment.
Yes. Houses, townhouses, units, strata common property, rentals and commercial sites in Greystanes 2145 are all part of what we do, and the paperwork is the kind agents accept.
It is, applied properly. We put product into cracks, voids and stations rather than across open surfaces, and we will tell you what to stay off and for how long before we leave.
Usually not. Most of the work is done with you in the house, and where a room does need to be clear it is for a short period we will tell you about on arrival.
Usually between one and two hours on site. Bigger properties and heavier infestations take more, and that is included in the quote rather than added afterwards.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. That is the point of the warranty - you do not pay twice for the same problem.
We do. Greystanes and Merrylands West, Pemulwuy, Pendle Hill and Guildford West are all on the same route, which helps if you own more than one property in the area.
