Expect more sightings, not fewer - slow-moving cockroaches out in the open or dead on the floor. That is the bait and growth regulator taking effect. Sweep them up.

Where Silverwater sits, who covers it and what it costs.
Silverwater is part of the Greater Parramatta & Cumberland, 15.7 km or so west of the GPO, and 2128 is a postcode we know well. We run Silverwater on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
A lot of our Silverwater jobs are in the streets around Auburn station and Clyde station, and we are out near Hume Park regularly enough that the technician usually knows the access before they arrive.
Under City of Parramatta and Cumberland, we cover Silverwater and Newington, Camellia and Clyde alike. The building stock is close-packed, so we look at what the property adjoins before deciding where product goes.
The bulk of our Silverwater work is apartments and converted blocks where the kitchen backs onto a service riser. Mention the detail when you call 1300 313 373 - it decides how long we need on site.
We also work the streets near Deakin Park and across toward Lidcombe Shopping Centre - the whole of 2128 is covered.
When you book, we confirm the 2128 run the day before and give you an arrival time rather than a window. If we are already out at Newington or Camellia that morning, we will usually offer you the earlier slot.
Where Silverwater housing shares walls and roof voids - semis, terraces, unit blocks - the population is usually shared too. We say so up front rather than treating one flat and letting you discover it a month later.
Cockroaches avoid light, so seeing one in daylight is not a chance encounter - it usually means the harbourage is crowded enough to push individuals out into the open. A daytime sighting in a Silverwater kitchen is a sign of scale, not bad luck.
Cockroaches want warmth, moisture and a tight space. In most Silverwater kitchens that is the motor cavity of the fridge or dishwasher, the void behind the splashback, and the gap where the benchtop meets the wall. That is where the gel goes.
Knowing the species tells us where the nest is and which treatment will work. Two of these photos are from our own Sydney jobs.

Around 12 to 15 mm, light brown, two dark stripes running back from the head. It never really leaves the building - warmth, a food source and a little moisture keep it going, and it out-breeds every other cockroach in a kitchen.

The largest one we deal with, around 4 cm and reddish-brown. Pits, sewers, grease traps and subfloors are where it breeds; the kitchen is somewhere it passes through at night.

About the same size as the American, distinguished by pale yellow margins behind the head and along the wing edges. It is an outdoor cockroach - mulch, garden beds and subfloors - that wanders inside.

A small banded cockroach that favours warmth and dryness rather than moisture. Look for it high up: behind frames, inside electrical enclosures and in cupboards well away from the sink.

Photo from an Elite job: German cockroach activity found during a Sydney inspection. Droppings, cast skins and egg cases in the harbourage tell us the species and how established it is.

Where and when you see them is often a better clue than size. Use this to tell us what you are seeing when you call.
| What you see | Likely species | Where the nest usually is | What treatment focuses on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daytime sightings near the sink, plus specks of droppings along the joins in cupboards | German cockroach - the one species that lives and breeds indoors | Hinges and drawer runners, the gap behind fridge and dishwasher, behind kickboards, inside motor housings | A bait rotation paired with a growth regulator, placed into cracks rather than sprayed about |
| Large cockroaches turning up at night around wet areas, usually one at a time | American cockroach | The pit system, the subfloor, and any floor-waste trap that has lost its water seal | Pit and drain work, subfloor treatment, and closing off pipe penetrations |
| Big yellow-margined cockroaches that seem to come from the garden rather than the kitchen | Australian cockroach | Garden mulch, leaf litter and woodpiles, plus the roof cavity | Treating outside: the perimeter, the roof void, and the harbourage in the beds themselves |
| Small cockroaches behind frames and in the TV cabinet, nowhere near a tap | Brown-banded cockroach | Warm dry furniture, and electrical appliances that run warm | Baiting concentrated in the rooms you live and sleep in |
| A unit where the problem never quite ends, weeks after a DIY attempt | German cockroach spreading from a neighbouring lot | Shared risers and bin rooms, plus the cavities inside shared walls | A building-wide, coordinated treatment. See strata pest control |

A German cockroach egg case holds around 30 eggs, and the female carries it until shortly before hatching. Killing adults on the surface leaves the next generation untouched.
One female produces several egg cases, and in a warm kitchen the young reach maturity within weeks. That is how a handful becomes a serious problem in a short time.
Bombs and supermarket sprays push cockroaches deeper into wall voids and into the unit next door, and can contaminate the surfaces you prepare food on.
The allergen load - droppings, saliva, cast skins - is a recognised trigger for asthma and allergies, which is why clearing an infestation properly matters beyond the nuisance.
What the technician does on the day, in the order it happens.
First we establish which cockroach it is, then map where it lives - torch and mirror into hinges, motor cavities, behind kickboards and into wall voids. Everything after this depends on that map.
Where build-up is feeding them, you will get a short list of what to clean and the order to do it in - bait has to out-compete everything else available.
Professional gel goes down as small dots inside the cracks they already use. A cockroach feeds, goes home, and the product moves through the rest of the colony from there.
Two products with different jobs: the growth regulator stops nymphs maturing, and dust carries the treatment into voids and cavities beyond the reach of gel.
American and Australian cockroaches are treated at source: pits, floor wastes, subfloor and roof void. Treating the kitchen alone just handles the ones that already made it in.
Everything is recorded in writing. Still seeing heavy activity after a fortnight, or it returns inside the 6-month warranty on a general treatment? We return at no cost.
Some DIY options help with a few stray cockroaches. An established German cockroach colony is a different job.
| Method | What it does well | Where it falls short |
|---|---|---|
| Aerosol surface spray | Effective on the one you are aiming at | Leaves egg cases and wall voids untouched, and scatters the rest further in |
| Bug bombs and foggers | Covers open surfaces in a room | Misses harbourage, leaves residue on benches, and can scatter the colony |
| Retail bait stations | Useful for a light problem | Low bait volume, and easily out-competed by crumbs and grease |
| Professional gel bait rotation | Fed on inside the harbourage and shared through the colony, with the option to swap formulations | Only works with the food competition removed, and needs days to two weeks |
| Insect growth regulator | Stops nymphs maturing into breeding adults, which breaks the egg-case cycle | Works slowly, so it is always paired with bait |
Ten minutes of preparation lets the bait reach more cockroaches.
Expect more sightings, not fewer - slow-moving cockroaches out in the open or dead on the floor. That is the bait and growth regulator taking effect. Sweep them up.
Through the second week activity should fall away. Leave the bait in place in hinges and cracks, and resist spraying anything over it, which puts cockroaches off feeding.
If it keeps going, let the agent or building manager know - cockroaches move between units readily. There is more on co-ordinated work on our apartment pest control page.
If you still see steady activity after two weeks, or cockroaches return within 6 months of a general treatment, call 1300 313 373 for a warranty re-treatment.
We are around Lidcombe Shopping Centre and the streets behind it most weeks, and we cover every address in 2128, not just the main roads.
Sydney does not give cockroaches an off-season. Around Silverwater the warm, humid stretch from October through March drives breeding hardest, but a heated Greater Parramatta & Cumberland home keeps a kitchen population going through winter without pause.
In older Silverwater buildings a cockroach population can live entirely in the drain line and come up at night. Treating the kitchen and ignoring the pipework means you are treating the visitors, not the residents.
Identify first, then treat: bait and growth regulator for German cockroaches, pit and subfloor work for the species that come up the drains.
Precise gel placement into cracks and hinges rather than spraying the surfaces you cook on.
We cover everything from one apartment to a full commercial kitchen, scheduled around your trading hours.
General treatments carry 6 months: a return within that window brings us back at no cost.

At roughly 15.7 km west of the city, Silverwater is on a route we run regularly. Same-day attendance is usually available. You will be given a time, not a window.
Most of this area is terrace, semi and converted block, and those share more than people realise - cavities, roof spaces, drainage. cockroaches use all of it.
Terraces and semis, often with a paved rear courtyard that traps damp against the wall - both of which shape the job.
We do. A lot of our Silverwater work is rentals and strata, so the report, the products used and the areas treated are all recorded in writing for whoever needs them.
Yes. The products are registered for this use and applied at label rates, and placement keeps them away from where children and animals go. Let us know at booking about pets, fish tanks or anyone with asthma and we will plan the visit around it.
Most of the time you can carry on as normal. If a particular area needs to be empty we will flag it when we arrive and it is rarely more than a couple of hours.
For a standard Silverwater home, one to two hours. We would rather tell you it will take longer up front than rush it.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. Ring us if activity picks up again inside that period and we will arrange the return.
Yes - we work right across the City of Parramatta and Cumberland area, which takes in Silverwater and the suburbs around it.
