Where Manly sits, who covers it and what it costs.
We treat spiders right across 2095. Manly is roughly 10.5 km north-east of the city, which puts it well inside the Northern Beaches run our technicians work. We run Manly on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
If you are near Bower Street Reserve, Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve or Collins Flat Beach, that is ground we cover constantly - it is the busiest part of Manly for us.
This is the Northern Beaches area, and our runs here also take in Fairlight, Queenscliff and Balgowlah Heights. Salt air and sandy ground keep sub-floors damp here, and damp is what sustains a population.
Around Manly the pattern is fairly consistent: apartments where the problem is really in the building rather than the flat. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
All of 2095 falls inside the area we service.
The 2095 run is set the day before and you are given an arrival time. Where Fairlight and Queenscliff fall on the same round, we can usually bring the visit forward.
We treat the fence line and the first few metres of garden on a bush-backed Manly block, because that is the crossing point.
Funnel-webs live in burrows in moist, shaded ground - garden beds, under rocks, in rockeries and beneath logs. Spraying the eaves of a Manly house does nothing about the spider people are actually worried about.
Treating spiders without reducing what they eat gives a shorter result. We will tell you what is drawing the insects to a Manly property as part of the job.
Two of these warrant real care. The rest are mostly a nuisance, but they are why webs reappear.

Glossy black, 2 to 4 cm, burrowing into cool sheltered ground under rocks, logs and buildings and lining it with silk. Summer and autumn bring wandering males. A bite is a medical emergency.

Females are black with a red dorsal stripe, spinning untidy webs in dry sheltered places - beneath outdoor chairs, in letterboxes, under pot rims, on pool fences and in sheds. A bite can be severely painful and needs medical advice.

Dark, stocky, and responsible for the lacy funnel webs in window frames, brick gaps and eaves. Timid - though the webs gather dust and rebuild rapidly if untreated.

A slender dark roaming hunter, pale at the tip of the abdomen. Active indoors at night hunting other spiders, sometimes in bedding and clothes. Bites hurt; a large study found no ulceration.

Large, flattened and fast-moving, sheltering under bark, in wall cavities and behind curtains. Alarming to find in the car or bedroom, yet timid. It hunts instead of webbing, so fewer come back once their prey insects are controlled.

A huntsman found on an Elite exterior inspection in Sydney. We work through eaves, window heads, meter boxes and garden edges before anything is applied.

| Spider | Risk | First aid | Get help |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney funnel-web | Venom that attacks the nervous system and can be life-threatening | Pressure immobilisation bandage, exactly as for a snake bite, and keep them still | Call 000 immediately |
| Mouse spider | Bites are rare, but some have produced funnel-web-like effects | Any bite from a large black spider is treated as a funnel-web bite: pressure immobilisation | Call 000 immediately |
| Redback | Pain that can become severe, sweating and feeling unwell; antivenom exists | Do NOT apply a pressure bandage. Wash, then apply a cold pack wrapped in cloth | Seek medical care if pain is severe or symptoms develop |
| White-tailed spider | A painful bite with redness and itching; a study of 130 confirmed bites found no ulcers | Wash the site and apply a cold pack | See a doctor if symptoms worsen or persist |
| Black house spider, huntsman and others | Generally just local pain and swelling | Clean the bite and use a cold pack | See a doctor if you feel unwell or symptoms persist |
If you are not sure what bit you and it was a large black spider, assume funnel-web and call 000. A pest treatment reduces spider numbers; it cannot guarantee a funnel-web will never wander in.

Male funnel-webs abandon their burrows chiefly in summer and autumn to look for females, says the Australian Museum. That is the season people meet them.
Rain followed by a humid night means more wandering males, and they shelter in outdoor shoes, laundry on the floor, garages and under-door gaps.
They fall into pools while wandering and survive hours underwater. Use the skimmer net and never reach in with your hand.
Its range runs from the Central Coast south as far as the Georges River, and west to about Baulkham Hills, concentrated in bushy sheltered suburbs.
Outside first, because that is where most spiders live and breed.
We go round the property with you, checking eaves and window frames, the fences, rockeries and retaining walls, the subfloor vents and every garden edge.
Webs and egg sacs come down from eaves, pergolas, outdoor furniture and garages, so spiderlings cannot hatch into the treatment.
Residual product is applied where spiders actually rest: the external walls, the eaves, window and door frames, and the weep holes.
Where there is funnel-web risk, the sheltered ground alongside the house is treated: rockeries, retaining walls, sleepers, subfloor edges.
Inside the house it is spot treatment where required - corners, skirting, wardrobes - plus dusting of the roof void and subfloor where accessible.

Hunting spiders such as huntsmen and white-tails contact less of the treated area. Reducing their prey is the lever that works over time.
That a wandering male funnel-web will not come through the yard on a humid night. Treatment cuts harbourage near the house; first aid knowledge and good habits remain essential.
Harmless, the garden orb weavers that web across paths. Webs near doors and walkways are removed; some left in the garden control flying insects.
Simple habits that matter most in funnel-web and redback country.
| Season | What spiders are doing | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Spring (Sept to Nov) | Egg sacs are hatching and webs multiply across eaves and fences | Treat and clear the webs before the spiderlings disperse |
| Summer (Dec to Feb) | Funnel-web males begin wandering and redbacks are active outdoors | Pools and shoes checked, outdoor areas inspected, door seals kept in place |
| Autumn (Mar to May) | Wandering continues among funnel-webs, most of all after rain | Take care on humid nights and wear gloves when gardening |
| Winter (Jun to Aug) | Webs outside become scarce; huntsmen shelter indoors and in cars | A sensible time to pest-proof gaps before spring |
Every address in 2095, from Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve across to the Fairlight boundary - houses, units, sheds, pools and the gardens around them.
Treatment reduces risk; it does not remove the need for habits. Children should know not to pick spiders up and not to reach into a pool or a woodpile by hand.
Heavy rain pushes ground-dwelling spiders up and into garages, laundries and under-house areas around Manly. That is when the calls spike.
We identify what is on the property and explain what it means for your family.
Not just the eaves - the ground harbourage next to the house is treated too.
Honest about the limits, particularly where wandering funnel-web males are concerned.
A general spider treatment carries 6 months. If webs rebuild inside that, so do we.

Get a Free QuoteSpider treatment starts from $89. We quote on the property rather than the postcode, so a unit in Manly and a large house are priced differently. The figure is fixed before any work starts. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
Same-day attendance is usually available. Manly is about 10.5 km north-east of the CBD in the Northern Beaches, and we give you a firm arrival time rather than an all-day window.
Salt air and sandy ground keep sub-floors and ground-floor wet areas damp for most of the year, and sustained damp is exactly what spiders need to establish.
Apartments near the beach and houses behind them. Either way the sub-floor and the lower level are the parts that matter.
We do all of those. A good share of the Manly jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
Yes. The products are registered for this use and applied at label rates, and placement keeps them away from where children and animals go. Let us know at booking about pets, fish tanks or anyone with asthma and we will plan the visit around it.
In most cases you can stay. Where an area does need to be left clear it is for a couple of hours at most, and we say so before we start.
Allow an hour to two hours for most properties. A bigger building, or one where the problem has spread, takes longer - and we would rather tell you that when quoting than rush it.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. Call us if activity picks up again and we will arrange the return visit.
We do. Manly and Fairlight, Queenscliff, Balgowlah Heights and Balgowlah are all on the same route, which helps if you own more than one property in the area.
