Where Palm Beach sits, who covers it and what it costs.
Postcode 2108 covers Palm Beach and the streets immediately around it. At about 31.5 km north of the CBD it falls in the Northern Beaches, where we have vans out daily. We cover Palm Beach on scheduled runs through the Northern Beaches, and we will give you a firm time rather than a window.
A lot of our Palm Beach jobs are in the streets around Wiltshire Park and McKay Reserve, and we are out near Sandy Beach regularly enough that the technician usually knows the access before they arrive.
Palm Beach is in the Northern Beaches area, and we cover Whale Beach, Avalon Beach and Clareville on the same runs - handy if you own more than one property or your spider problem has come from next door. Being this close to the coast, sub-floors and ground-floor bathrooms stay damp most of the year, which is the condition that keeps activity going.
Around Palm Beach the pattern is fairly consistent: unit blocks a street or two back from the water, plus the odd beachfront cafe. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
Wherever you are in 2108, you are inside the area our technicians cover.
When you book, we confirm the 2108 run the day before and give you an arrival time rather than a window. If we are already out at Whale Beach or Avalon Beach that morning, we will usually offer you the earlier slot.
Indoor sightings are usually a proofing issue rather than an infestation. Gaps under doors, unscreened vents and wall penetrations account for most of what we find inside.
Redbacks want dry, sheltered, undisturbed spots - the underside of outdoor furniture, pot rims, letterboxes, the shed, the meter box. Around Palm Beach that is where we concentrate rather than on the house walls.
The Northern Beaches pattern is a build-up from September, heaviest through January and February, easing by April. Treating before the build-up is far more effective.
Two of these warrant real care. The rest are mostly a nuisance, but they are why webs reappear.

This is the glossy black one, 2 to 4 cm, in a silk-lined burrow in cool sheltered ground beneath rocks, logs or the house itself. Males wander summer and autumn. A bite is a medical emergency.

Black, with the red stripe on the female's back, and untidy webbing in dry sheltered positions - under outdoor seating, letterboxes, pot rims, pool fencing and sheds. Bites can be severely painful; seek medical advice.

A dark, stocky spider whose lacy funnel-shaped webs appear in window frames, brick gaps and eaves. Timid by nature, though the webs gather dust and come back fast if untreated.

A slim, dark roaming hunter with a pale tip on the abdomen. It wanders indoors at night hunting other spiders, sometimes into bedding and clothes. Bites are painful but a large study found no ulcers.

The big flat fast one, found under bark, in wall cavities and behind curtains. Startling but shy. It hunts rather than spinning webs, so controlling the insects it eats means fewer come back.

A huntsman found on an Elite exterior inspection in Sydney. We work through eaves, window heads, meter boxes and garden edges before anything is applied.
General guidance based on Australian Museum and healthdirect advice. It is not a substitute for medical care. In an emergency call 000, and for advice call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26.
| Spider | Risk | First aid | Get help |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney funnel-web | Potentially life-threatening venom that acts on the nervous system | Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage as for a snake bite, keep the person still | Call 000 immediately |
| Mouse spider | Seldom bites, but serious funnel-web-like effects have occurred | Treat as a funnel-web bite - pressure immobilisation - for any big black spider | Call 000 immediately |
| Redback | Increasingly severe pain, sweating and feeling unwell; antivenom exists | Do NOT apply a pressure bandage. Wash the area, then a cloth-wrapped cold pack | Seek medical care if pain is severe or symptoms develop |
| White-tailed spider | A painful bite with redness and itching; a study of 130 confirmed bites found no ulcers | Wash the site and apply a cold pack | See a doctor if symptoms worsen or persist |
| Black house spider, huntsman and others | Mostly local pain and swelling only | Clean the area and use a cold pack | See a doctor if you feel unwell or symptoms persist |
If you are not sure what bit you and it was a large black spider, assume funnel-web and call 000. A pest treatment reduces spider numbers; it cannot guarantee a funnel-web will never wander in.

The Australian Museum records male funnel-webs leaving their burrows mainly through summer and autumn to find females - the period when encounters peak.
Rain followed by a humid night means more wandering males, and they shelter in outdoor shoes, laundry on the floor, garages and under-door gaps.
Males wandering at night fall into backyard pools and can stay alive for hours underwater. Use the skimmer net - never your hand.
Its distribution covers the Central Coast south to the Georges River and west to around Baulkham Hills, chiefly in bushy, sheltered areas.
Outside first, because that is where most spiders live and breed.
We go round the property with you, looking at eaves, window frames, fences, rockeries, retaining walls, subfloor vents and the garden edges.
Eaves, pergolas, outdoor furniture and garages are brushed clear of webs and egg sacs, preventing a new hatch into the treated area.
External walls, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes and resting spots all take a residual product.
We treat sheltered ground beside the house where funnel-webs are a risk: rockeries, retaining walls, sleepers and subfloor edges.
Spot treatments go into corners, skirting and wardrobes where they are needed, and accessible roof voids and subfloors are dusted.
The web-builders that rest on treated walls, eaves and frames: black house spiders, redbacks and garage daddy long-legs.
Hunting spiders such as huntsmen and white-tails, which touch fewer surfaces. Controlling the insects and spiders they eat helps reduce them over time.
That a wandering male will never cross the yard on a humid night. What treatment does is reduce harbourage near the house; first aid knowledge and simple habits still matter.
The garden orb weavers stringing webs across paths are harmless. We clear webs near doors and walkways, though leaving some in the garden helps keep flying insects down.
Simple habits that matter most in funnel-web and redback country.
| Season | What spiders are doing | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Spring (Sept to Nov) | Spiderlings hatch and webs multiply over eaves and fencing | Book treatment and clear webs ahead of the spiderlings spreading |
| Summer (Dec to Feb) | Funnel-web males are on the move and redbacks are active around furniture outside | Check pools, shoes and outdoor spaces; make sure door seals are in place |
| Autumn (Mar to May) | Funnel-web wandering continues, especially after rain | Stay alert on humid nights; keep gardening gloves on |
| Winter (Jun to Aug) | Fewer webs outside, and huntsmen move indoors and into cars | The right time for pest-proofing gaps ahead of spring |
Sheds, cubby houses and under-deck storage are the places people forget and the places spiders prefer.
We treat the fence line and the first few metres of garden on a bush-backed Palm Beach block, because that is the crossing point.
Anywhere in Palm Beach is the same price and the same response, whether it backs onto reserve or sits in the middle of the suburb.
We tell you what we found and what each species means for the people living there.
Ground harbourage beside the building is part of it, not only the eaves above.

Get a Free QuoteSpider treatment starts from $89. What changes the figure is the size of the building, how many areas are affected and the access. You get that number up front for Palm Beach 2108, with no call-out fee. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
We cover it on scheduled runs, so a day's notice gets you the best slot. We are about 31.5 km north of the city here, and Palm Beach is covered by the Northern Beaches team.
Humidity close to the coast does not fall away in winter the way it does inland, so spiders here get a longer active season than they would further west.
Units close to the water, houses further back, and sub-floors that hold moisture in both.
We do. A lot of our Palm Beach work is rentals and strata, so the report, the products used and the areas treated are all recorded in writing for whoever needs them.
Yes, applied correctly. Products are registered for this use, placed out of reach rather than across open surfaces, and you will know what to stay off and for how long.
You do not normally need to leave. Anything requiring an empty room is short, and you will know about it before the work starts.
An hour to two hours covers most jobs. The size of the building and the extent of the problem are what change it.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. Ring us if activity picks up again inside that period and we will arrange the return.
Yes. As well as Palm Beach we cover Whale Beach, Avalon Beach, Clareville and Bilgola Plateau on the same runs, so a job that crosses a boundary can be handled in one visit.
