What we cover in Spit Junction, and how quickly we can get there.
Spit Junction is part of the Lower North Shore, 5.7 km or so north-east of the GPO, and 2088 is a postcode we know well. Our technicians are through Spit Junction most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
Our Spit Junction work takes in the streets by Memory Park and Hunter Park, through to Sydney Harbour National Park at the other end.
This is the North Sydney, Mosman, Willoughby, Lane Cove and Hunters Hill area, and our runs here also take in Mosman, Cremorne and Clontarf. The mix here is older houses and converted blocks near the water, where moisture under the floor is usually part of the story.
The bulk of our Spit Junction work is waterfront and near-waterfront homes with damp sub-floors and mature gardens. Mention the detail when you call 1300 313 373 - it decides how long we need on site.
Our Spit Junction runs also take in Bradley Bushland Reserve and the area near Bridge Point Shopping Centre, so the whole postcode is served.
When you book, we confirm the 2088 run the day before and give you an arrival time rather than a window. If we are already out at Mosman or Cremorne that morning, we will usually offer you the earlier slot.
Timing a treatment just before the spring hatch does far more for a Spit Junction property than treating in midsummer once the spiderlings have already dispersed.
Bushland blocks get the most funnel-web activity and the most wandering spiders after rain. That is where ground treatment matters most.
A white outdoor light draws flying insects from a long way off, and the spiders follow them to the wall it is mounted on. Switching a Spit Junction entry light to a warm or yellow globe makes a visible difference within weeks.
Two of these warrant real care. The rest are mostly a nuisance, but they are why webs reappear.

Glossy and black, 2 to 4 cm, in silk-lined burrows in cool sheltered ground under rocks, logs and houses. Summer and autumn bring wandering males. Any bite is a medical emergency.

Black, with the red stripe on the female's back, and untidy webbing in dry sheltered positions - under outdoor seating, letterboxes, pot rims, pool fencing and sheds. Bites can be severely painful; seek medical advice.

Dark and stocky, with lacy, funnel-shaped webs in window frames, brick gaps and eaves. It is timid, but its webs collect dust and return quickly without treatment.

A dark slender hunter marked by a pale tip to the abdomen. It roams indoors at night hunting other spiders, occasionally into bedding and clothes. Painful bites, though a large study recorded no ulcers.

Large, flat and fast, living under bark, in wall cavities and behind curtains. Alarming in a car or bedroom, but shy. It hunts rather than webbing, so fewer huntsmen tend to return once the insects they eat are controlled.

Taken on an Elite inspection in Sydney: a huntsman found outside. The eaves, window heads, meter boxes and garden edges are all checked before treatment starts.
General guidance based on Australian Museum and healthdirect advice. It is not a substitute for medical care. In an emergency call 000, and for advice call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26.
| Spider | Risk | First aid | Get help |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney funnel-web | Among the most dangerous spiders in the world; the venom acts on the nervous system | Pressure immobilisation bandage, as for a snake bite, and keep the person completely still | Call 000 immediately |
| Mouse spider | Bites are unusual, though some have caused funnel-web-like illness | Apply pressure immobilisation, treating any large black spider bite as funnel-web | Call 000 immediately |
| Redback | Severe pain is common, along with sweating and feeling unwell; antivenom is available | Do NOT apply a pressure bandage. Wash it, then put on a cloth-wrapped cold pack | Seek medical care if pain is severe or symptoms develop |
| White-tailed spider | A painful bite causing redness and itch; no ulcers in a study of 130 confirmed cases | Wash the area, then use a cold pack | See a doctor if symptoms worsen or persist |
| Black house spider, huntsman and others | Generally just local pain and swelling | Clean the bite and use a cold pack | See a doctor if you feel unwell or symptoms persist |
If you are not sure what bit you and it was a large black spider, assume funnel-web and call 000. A pest treatment reduces spider numbers; it cannot guarantee a funnel-web will never wander in.
One call to a licensed Sydney technician gets you straight advice and a fixed quote within 30 minutes.
Male funnel-webs abandon their burrows chiefly in summer and autumn to look for females, says the Australian Museum. That is the season people meet them.
Humid nights after rainfall bring the males out. They take shelter in shoes left outdoors, in laundry on the floor, in garages and under doors.
Males wandering at night fall into backyard pools and can stay alive for hours underwater. Use the skimmer net - never your hand.
Its range runs from the Central Coast south as far as the Georges River, and west to about Baulkham Hills, concentrated in bushy sheltered suburbs.
Outside first, because that is where most spiders live and breed.
Together we walk the property, checking the eaves, window frames, fences, rockeries, retaining walls, subfloor vents and garden edges.
We clear the webs and egg sacs from eaves, pergolas, outdoor furniture and garages so new spiderlings do not emerge into the treated area.
Product is applied to the places they rest - walls outside, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes.
On properties where funnel-webs are a risk we treat the cool sheltered ground beside the house - rockeries, retaining walls, sleepers, subfloor edges.
Corners, skirting and wardrobes are spot treated where needed, and the roof void and subfloor are dusted where accessible.
Spiders that web and then sit on treated walls, eaves and frames - black house spiders, redbacks, the garage daddy long-legs.
The hunting species - huntsmen, white-tails - cross fewer treated surfaces. Controlling what they eat is what lowers their numbers gradually.
That no wandering male funnel-web will ever cross the yard on a humid night. Treatment reduces harbourage near the house; first aid knowledge and sensible habits still matter.
Garden orb weavers do no harm even when a web crosses the path. Webs near doors and walkways come down; the others stay and control flying insects.
Simple habits that matter most in funnel-web and redback country.
| Season | What spiders are doing | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Spring (Sept to Nov) | Spiderlings hatch and webs multiply over eaves and fencing | Book treatment and clear webs ahead of the spiderlings spreading |
| Summer (Dec to Feb) | Male funnel-webs begin wandering, and redbacks are busy around outdoor furniture | Check the pool, the shoes and outdoor areas, and keep door seals intact |
| Autumn (Mar to May) | Funnel-web males are still on the move, especially after wet weather | Stay alert on humid nights and keep gloves on in the garden |
| Winter (Jun to Aug) | Fewer webs outside; huntsmen shelter indoors and in cars | Good time for pest-proofing gaps before spring |
Most spiders found indoors in Spit Junction homes came in by accident - under a door, through a vent, or on something carried in. They are not establishing; they are lost, which is why door seals do more than spraying skirting boards.
We go through the specific risks on a Spit Junction property with you - where redbacks are likely, whether the block is in funnel-web country - so the advice fits the house rather than being general.
Pool pump housings are sheltered and dry, which makes them classic redback sites. We check them on every Spit Junction property that has one.
You are told which species we found and what each one means for your household.
Not just the eaves - the ground harbourage next to the house is treated too.
