Where Turrella sits, who covers it and what it costs.
If you are in Turrella or anywhere else in 2205, you are in our Inner West patch, 9.5 km south-west of the CBD. Our technicians are through Turrella most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
If you are near Turrella station, Arncliffe Park or Debbie & Abbey Borgia Recreation Centre, that is ground we cover constantly - it is the busiest part of Turrella for us.
Turrella is in the Inner West, Burwood, Strathfield and Canada Bay area, and we cover Bardwell Valley, Arncliffe and Wolli Creek on the same runs - handy if you own more than one property or your spider problem has come from next door. Terraces, semis and converted blocks share cavities and risers, which is why a single-unit treatment often does not hold on its own.
Turrella jobs tend to be apartments and converted blocks where the kitchen backs onto a service riser. Let us know which when you ring and we will plan the visit around it.
Wolli Creek Regional Park and Bardwell Valley Golf Course are on the same round, which means every part of 2205 is within our area.
When you book, we confirm the 2205 run the day before and give you an arrival time rather than a window. If we are already out at Bardwell Valley or Arncliffe that morning, we will usually offer you the earlier slot.
Spiders follow their food. If webs are multiplying on your Turrella eaves, there are more flying insects than there were, and the lighting and the garden are usually why.
We brush down egg sacs as part of every job because leaving them means a hatch into treated ground a few weeks later. Spring is when this matters most.
We place product where people and animals do not go, and tell you what to keep clear of and for how long - usually a couple of hours on treated surfaces. Mention pets, chickens or fish tanks when booking a Turrella job.
Two of these warrant real care. The rest are mostly a nuisance, but they are why webs reappear.

A glossy black spider 2 to 4 cm long, living in a silk-lined burrow in cool sheltered ground beneath rocks, logs and houses. Males wander through summer and autumn looking for females, and any bite is a medical emergency.

The female is black with a red stripe on the back and builds untidy webs in dry, sheltered spots: under outdoor chairs, letterboxes, pot rims, pool fences and sheds. Bites can cause severe pain and need medical advice.

This is the dark stocky one with lacy funnel webs in window frames, brickwork gaps and eaves. It avoids people, but the webs collect dust and reappear fast without treatment.

Slim, dark, with a pale spot at the end of the abdomen. A roaming hunter that comes inside at night after other spiders, sometimes into bedding and clothing. Bites are painful but a large study found no ulcers.

The big flat fast one, found under bark, in wall cavities and behind curtains. Startling but shy. It hunts rather than spinning webs, so controlling the insects it eats means fewer come back.

From an Elite job - a huntsman located during an outside inspection. Eaves, window heads, meter boxes and garden edges are inspected before we treat.

| Spider | Risk | First aid | Get help |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sydney funnel-web | Life-threatening venom acting on the nervous system | Use a pressure immobilisation bandage as for snake bite; the person must stay still | Call 000 immediately |
| Mouse spider | Infrequent bites, some with serious effects resembling funnel-web envenomation | Any large black spider bite gets funnel-web first aid: pressure immobilisation | Call 000 immediately |
| Redback | Pain that may escalate, with sweating and nausea; an antivenom is available | Do NOT apply a pressure bandage. Wash the site and use a cold pack wrapped in cloth | Seek medical care if pain is severe or symptoms develop |
| White-tailed spider | Painful with redness and itching; a 130-bite study recorded no ulcers | Wash it and put on a cold pack | See a doctor if symptoms worsen or persist |
| Black house spider, huntsman and others | Usually nothing beyond local pain and swelling | Wash the bite and apply a cold pack | See a doctor if you feel unwell or symptoms persist |
If you are not sure what bit you and it was a large black spider, assume funnel-web and call 000. A pest treatment reduces spider numbers; it cannot guarantee a funnel-web will never wander in.

The Australian Museum records male funnel-webs leaving their burrows mainly through summer and autumn to find females - the period when encounters peak.
Humid nights after rain bring more wandering males. They shelter in shoes left outside, laundry on the floor, garages and gaps under doors.
They fall into pools while wandering and survive hours underwater. Use the skimmer net and never reach in with your hand.
The species ranges from the Central Coast south to the Georges River and west to about Baulkham Hills, favouring bushy sheltered suburbs.
Outside first, because that is where most spiders live and breed.
We go round the property with you, checking eaves and window frames, the fences, rockeries and retaining walls, the subfloor vents and every garden edge.
Eaves, pergolas, outdoor furniture and garages are brushed clear of webs and egg sacs, preventing a new hatch into the treated area.
A residual product goes on external walls, eaves, window and door frames, weep holes and the places spiders rest.
Funnel-web risk brings the ground into scope - the sheltered strip beside the house, rockeries, retaining walls, sleepers and subfloor edges.
Inside, we spot treat corners, skirting and wardrobes as needed, and dust the roof void and subfloor where access allows.

Hunting spiders such as huntsmen and white-tails contact less of the treated area. Reducing their prey is the lever that works over time.
Nobody can promise a wandering male funnel-web will never cross the yard on a humid night. Treatment reduces harbourage near the house - first aid and sensible habits do the rest.
The garden orb weavers stringing webs across paths are harmless. We clear webs near doors and walkways, though leaving some in the garden helps keep flying insects down.
Simple habits that matter most in funnel-web and redback country.
| Season | What spiders are doing | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Spring (Sept to Nov) | Spiderlings hatch and webs multiply over eaves and fencing | Book treatment and clear webs ahead of the spiderlings spreading |
| Summer (Dec to Feb) | Male funnel-webs begin wandering, and redbacks are busy around outdoor furniture | Check the pool, the shoes and outdoor areas, and keep door seals intact |
| Autumn (Mar to May) | Wandering funnel-webs remain active, particularly post-rain | Stay alert on humid nights and keep gardening gloves on |
| Winter (Jun to Aug) | Webs outside become scarce; huntsmen shelter indoors and in cars | A sensible time to pest-proof gaps before spring |
Funnel-webs regularly end up in pools and survive hours underwater. Do not assume one floating in a Turrella pool is dead.
The Inner West pattern is a build-up from September, heaviest through January and February, easing by April. Treating before the build-up is far more effective.
Treatment reduces risk; it does not remove the need for habits. Children should know not to pick spiders up and not to reach into a pool or a woodpile by hand.
Which spiders we found, and what they actually mean for your family - you get both.
Ground harbourage beside the building is part of it, not only the eaves above.

These houses were built joined together, and they have aged that way. Party walls, continuous roof voids and shared drainage give spiders a route your front door has no bearing on.
Older joined housing. The treatment takes account of shared walls, continuous sub-floors and roof voids that run between properties.
