Budding splits the colony
Where a species has many queens, a repellent spray causes budding rather than death. Part of the colony, queen included, moves elsewhere, and you have doubled the problem.

What we cover in Arndell Park, and how quickly we can get there.
We treat ants right across 2148. Arndell Park is roughly 32 km west of the city, which puts it well inside the Blacktown & Mount Druitt run our technicians work. We cover Arndell Park on scheduled runs through the Blacktown & Mount Druitt, and we will give you a firm time rather than a window.
Around Arndell Park we are most often near Dog Kennel Reserve and Bungarribee Creek Reserve.
We work under the Blacktown City area here, and Huntingwood, Doonside and Eastern Creek are all on the same route, which matters when ant problems are moving between adjoining properties. Estate blocks are compact with narrow side passages, so access and the perimeter are where most of the work happens.
Arndell Park jobs tend to be estate houses with narrow side access and a shared fence line. Let us know which when you ring and we will plan the visit around it.
The whole of 2148 is on our regular run.
Bookings for 2148 are confirmed the day before with a set arrival time, not an all-day window. Jobs at Huntingwood and Doonside often share the same run, which is how earlier slots come up.
What looks like a queue is a chemical road. Each worker reinforces it on the way back, so the trail gets stronger the better the food is - and re-forms along the same skirting the moment the cleaning dries.
Ant control is colony control. Everything else - sprays, powders, wiping the bench - is managing symptoms, and around Arndell Park that is why the same trail comes back every spring.
A colony can occupy a garden bed, a paving slab and a wall cavity at once. That is why a single treated nest in Arndell Park changes very little on its own.
Each of these behaves differently, so the bait and the placement change too. Two photos come from our own jobs.

The small glossy black one you find in the kitchen. It runs along skirtings, window frames and cabling, nesting in wall cavities, roof voids and the edges of garden beds, and it takes sweet bait without much persuading.

Small brown ants that include a bigger-headed soldier caste. Sandy soil pushed up between pavers and along slab edges gives them away. Colonies run to many nests, and oil-based granular bait is what works.

A small, matt brown ant that moves quickly in heavy trails. Its nests have multiple queens and link up with others nearby, so the problem often spans several properties. Repellent spray is the worst thing to use on it.

Big ants, usually out after dark, nesting in soil, hollow trees and timber that has gone soft or damp. They are not the structural threat their overseas relatives are, but finding one in a wall usually means there is a leak behind it.

From an Elite job - a nest coming out of a mortar joint. Cracked mortar and weep holes open directly into the wall cavity, and that cavity is where a lot of black house ant colonies sit.

An Elite job photo: gel placed directly on an active trail. Leave it be - the ants feeding there are the ones delivering it to the colony.
Where ants appear usually tells us where the nest is and which species we are dealing with.
A trail coming in from the external wall normally means a nest in the cavity or at the garden edge, and that entry point is where the tracing begins.
That fine sandy soil appearing between pavers, along the driveway and at slab joints is the classic coastal brown ant sign - they are nesting below.
Ants nesting in switches and electrical fittings are drawn to the warmth. Do not spray into power points; tell us so we can treat safely.
Winged ants swarming in the warmer months are reproductives on a mating flight. Indoors, that can indicate an established colony within the structure.
When trails appear around the shower, vanity or toilet, moisture is the reason - often a slow leak the colony is drinking from.
Bull and jumper ants live in lawn and garden-bed nests. The sting hurts, and for some people it brings on a serious allergic reaction.
A licensed Sydney technician will talk it through and give you a fixed quote within half an hour.

The difference matters. Retail sprays are repellent - ants sense them and avoid the treated area. Non-repellent products cannot be detected, so foragers cross them, pick up the active and take it back to the nest.
If the bait is not what they want today, they will walk past it. Preference moves between sugar and protein with brood demand, so we test and change as needed.
It takes days for bait to move through a colony. Spraying the trail the day after our visit kills the very ants delivering it - our blog explains budding in more detail.
Tracing first, then baits and non-repellent products that do the work after we leave.
We identify the ant and follow trails back to entry points and nests in walls, paving, garden edges and roof spaces.
Before committing, we offer a little of each bait type and let the colony tell us which one it is on.
Gel is placed on the trails themselves - along window frames and skirting boards - and positioned out of reach of children and pets.
The perimeter gets a non-repellent product - foundation, weep holes, door frames, paths - which intercepts ants before they are inside.
Coastal brown ant nests under paving and along lawn edges get granular bait or direct treatment.
A written summary, clear advice on what not to spray afterwards, and a 6-month warranty on the general treatment.
The same bait does not suit every ant. This is how we choose.
| Species | Usually feeding on | Treatment approach | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black house ant | Honeydew and sugary liquids, switching to protein when there is brood | Sweet gel on active trails and a non-repellent perimeter at frames and weep holes | Washing the trail down each day, which only relocates the foraging route |
| Coastal brown ant | Oils and protein rather than sugars | Granular bait with an oil base, spread on paving and at the lawn edge | Boiling water down one hole - there are dozens of other nests |
| Argentine ant | Sugars, with protein at times | Slow-acting baits plus non-repellent treatment across the property line | Repellent barrier sprays, which split multi-queen nests |
| Sugar ants (Camponotus) | Nocturnal, on sweet foods and insects | Trails inspected at night, bait placed near the nest, timber moisture fixed | Only ever treating during the day, when there is nothing to see |
| Bull ants and jumper ants | Nectar and insects, outdoors | Treating the nest directly where it sits in lawn or garden bed | Digging the nest out by hand, which is how people get stung |
| Time of year | What is happening | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Early spring (Sept to Oct) | Colonies wake up and start raising new brood, so protein demand rises | First trails indoors, sand piles reappearing in paving |
| Late spring to summer (Nov to Feb) | Foraging at its height, and mating flights whenever it turns warm and humid | Winged ants indoors, and much heavier trails after storms and heatwaves |
| Autumn (Mar to May) | Colonies are at full size and stock up before cooler weather | Trails into pantries and pet food |
| Winter (Jun to Aug) | Outdoor activity slows, but nests in heated walls keep going | Ants around heaters, hot water units and kitchens |
Most failed ant treatments come down to what happens in the week after.
We are around Dog Kennel Reserve most weeks and cover every street in 2148, including the ones off the main roads.
A single trail across a Arndell Park prep bench during an inspection is enough to cause a problem. The program is built to prevent that rather than react to it.
A branch touching the roof is a bridge. Mulch banked against brickwork is harbourage. Most of what brings ants inside a Arndell Park home is in the garden immediately around it.
The trail gets traced to its source. Spraying where you saw ants achieves very little.
Sweet, protein or oil-based baits chosen for the ant and the season.
Non-repellent products only - they are taken back to the nest rather than scattering it.
A general ant treatment carries 6 months of cover - if they return inside it, so do we.

Get a Free QuoteAnt treatment starts from $89. We quote on the property rather than the postcode, so a unit in Arndell Park and a large house are priced differently. The figure is fixed before any work starts. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
We cover it on scheduled runs, so a day's notice gets you the best slot. Our Blacktown & Mount Druitt technicians cover Arndell Park daily, and you get a confirmed arrival time when you book.
Estates are built fast and close. Shared fence lines, narrow side access and uniform construction mean ants rarely stay at just one address.
Newer homes, tightly spaced, usually slab on ground - so the treatment concentrates on the perimeter and entry points.
We do all of those. A good share of the Arndell Park jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
Yes, with the usual care. Everything is APVMA-registered and used to label, and we will work around pets, aquariums and anyone in the house with a respiratory condition if you tell us when you book.
Usually not. Most of the work is done with you in the house, and where a room does need to be clear it is for a short period we will tell you about on arrival.
Allow an hour to two hours for most properties. A bigger building, or one where the problem has spread, takes longer - and we would rather tell you that when quoting than rush it.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. A return visit inside that period does not cost you anything.
We do. Arndell Park and Huntingwood, Doonside, Eastern Creek and Woodcroft are all on the same route, which helps if you own more than one property in the area.
