Budding splits the colony
Argentine ants and a number of house ants carry multiple queens. Spray them with a repellent and a queen plus a few hundred workers simply moves out and starts again nearby.

What we cover in Wetherill Park, and how quickly we can get there.
We treat ants right across 2164. Wetherill Park is roughly 27.6 km west of the city, which puts it well inside the South West Sydney run our technicians work. We cover Wetherill Park on scheduled runs through the South West Sydney, and we will give you a firm time rather than a window.
Most weeks we are somewhere between Bossley Park Shopping Centre and Wetherill Park Reserve in Wetherill Park, and Emerson Park is close enough to be on the same run.
We work under the Liverpool, Fairfield and Cumberland area here, and Prairiewood, Fairfield West and Smithfield are all on the same route, which matters when ant problems are moving between adjoining properties. Newer estate housing sits close together on small blocks, so what happens next door matters. We check the boundary and the fence line, not just the house.
Around Wetherill Park the pattern is fairly consistent: recently built homes where the activity started at the boundary. Tell us which it is on the phone and we will come prepared for it.
We cover the remainder of 2164 as well, from Hyland Road Reserve through to Fairfield City Golf Course.
Bookings for 2164 are confirmed the day before with a set arrival time, not an all-day window. Jobs at Prairiewood and Fairfield West often share the same run, which is how earlier slots come up.
What looks like a queue is a chemical road. Each worker reinforces it on the way back, so the trail gets stronger the better the food is - and re-forms along the same skirting the moment the cleaning dries.
What you are looking at is a supply line, not a population. Treat the line and the colony sends another one tomorrow along a slightly different route.
Where we find ants in a Wetherill Park wall or frame, we look for the water first. Fix the leak and the timber dries; leave it and another colony will use the same cavity.
Each of these behaves differently, so the bait and the placement change too. Two photos come from our own jobs.

Small and shiny black. It is the usual kitchen ant here, trailing along skirting boards, window frames and power cables from nests in wall voids, roof spaces and the garden edge, and it takes sweet bait easily.

Tiny and brown, with a distinct large-headed soldier. The sign is loose sand appearing between pavers, along the slab edge and in grout lines. Many nests to a colony, which is why we use oil-based granular baits.

Small and flat brown in colour, running in dense fast trails. Because nests hold many queens and join with those next door, the infestation is usually bigger than one property. Never spray a repellent on it.

Large and mostly nocturnal, nesting in soil, hollow trees and damp or softened timber. They rarely damage structure here, though a nest inside a wall is a reliable sign of moisture that needs attention.

Taken on an Elite job: a mortar joint with a nest behind it. Weep holes and failed mortar are a direct path into the cavity, where many black house ant colonies establish.

An Elite photo of gel bait on an active trail. The whole point is letting them feed and take it home, so the trail must be left alone once we have treated it.
Where ants appear usually tells us where the nest is and which species we are dealing with.
A trail coming in from the external wall normally means a nest in the cavity or at the garden edge, and that entry point is where the tracing begins.
Fine sand pushed up through paving, driveway and slab joints is coastal brown ants underneath, almost without exception.
Ants nesting in switches and electrical fittings are drawn to the warmth. Do not spray into power points; tell us so we can treat safely.
Swarms of winged ants in spring and summer are mating flights. Seen indoors, they can mean a mature colony inside the building.
Trails in the bathroom point to water in the wall or a slow leak the ants have found.
Bull ants and jumper ants nest in the lawn and garden beds. The sting is genuinely painful and in some people causes a serious allergic reaction.

Argentine ants and a number of house ants carry multiple queens. Spray them with a repellent and a queen plus a few hundred workers simply moves out and starts again nearby.
The difference matters. Retail sprays are repellent - ants sense them and avoid the treated area. Non-repellent products cannot be detected, so foragers cross them, pick up the active and take it back to the nest.
A colony only takes bait if it wants that food at that moment. Ants switch between sugar and protein as their brood needs change, so we test preferences and change baits when needed.
Results come over days as the bait spreads. Spray the trail the next morning and you have killed the ants that were carrying it home. Our blog explains budding in more detail.
Tracing first, then baits and non-repellent products that do the work after we leave.
Species confirmed, then trails traced to entry points and to the nests - walls, paving, garden edges, roof space.
We put out small quantities of sweet, protein and oil-based bait to see which the colony is actually taking today.
Gel bait goes along trails, window frames and skirting where ants travel, out of reach of children and pets.
A non-repellent treatment around the foundation, weep holes, door frames and paths intercepts ants coming in.
Coastal brown ant nests under paving and along lawn edges get granular bait or direct treatment.
A written summary, clear advice on what not to spray afterwards, and a 6-month warranty on the general treatment.
The same bait does not suit every ant. This is how we choose.
| Species | Usually feeding on | Treatment approach | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black house ant | Mostly sweet liquids and honeydew, with protein demand during brood rearing | Gel bait along the trail, plus non-repellent treatment to weep holes and door frames | Daily detergent wiping of trails - it moves the foraging rather than stopping it |
| Coastal brown ant | Oils and protein rather than sugars | Granular bait with an oil base, spread on paving and at the lawn edge | Boiling water down one hole - there are dozens of other nests |
| Argentine ant | Sugars, with protein at times | Slow-acting baits plus non-repellent treatment across the property line | Repellent barrier sprays, which split multi-queen nests |
| Sugar ants (Camponotus) | Sweet foods and insects, foraging after dark | Inspecting trails at night, baiting close to the nest, and fixing damp timber | Working only in daylight hours, when these ants are not out |
| Bull ants and jumper ants | Insects and nectar, always outside | The nest itself is treated directly, in lawn or garden bed | Hand-digging a nest, which reliably ends in stings |
| Time of year | What is happening | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Early spring (Sept to Oct) | The colony restarts and begins brood production, raising its protein needs | First trails inside, and sandy soil showing up in paving joints |
| Late spring to summer (Nov to Feb) | Foraging at its height, and mating flights whenever it turns warm and humid | Winged ants indoors, and much heavier trails after storms and heatwaves |
| Autumn (Mar to May) | Colonies reach full size and start stocking up ahead of the cold | Trails heading for the pantry and the pet food bowl |
| Winter (Jun to Aug) | Outdoor activity slows, but nests in heated walls keep going | Ants around heaters, hot water units and kitchens |
Most failed ant treatments come down to what happens in the week after.
Our Wetherill Park runs take in Market Town Shopping Centre and continue across to the Prairiewood boundary - all the same service area.
Mulch against the wall, a shrub touching the eaves and a damp garden bed along the footings all put ants within reach of the building. In Wetherill Park we routinely find the colony is in the garden, not the house.
Nests under paving are sheltered, warm and almost impossible to flood out. They need bait placed at the active entrances, not a hose.
Trails lead somewhere, so we follow them to the colony instead of spraying the sighting.
Which bait we use depends on the ant and the season: sweet, protein or oil-based.
We use non-repellents the foragers carry back, not sprays that split the colony up.
A general ant treatment carries 6 months of cover - if they return inside it, so do we.

Get a Free QuoteAnt treatment starts from $89. Two things move it: how big the place is, and how far it has already spread. We work that out on the phone or on site and tell you the figure before anything starts in Wetherill Park. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
We cover it on scheduled runs, so a day's notice gets you the best slot. Wetherill Park is about 27.6 km west of the CBD in the South West Sydney, and we give you a firm arrival time rather than an all-day window.
Uniform houses on small lots means uniform conditions. Whatever suits ants at your address suits them at the ten around it, so these problems move along a street rather than stopping.
Estate housing on small lots, which means the outside of the building matters as much as the inside.
We do. A lot of our Wetherill Park work is rentals and strata, so the report, the products used and the areas treated are all recorded in writing for whoever needs them.
It is, as long as you follow what we tell you on the day - usually keeping off treated surfaces for a couple of hours. Let us know at booking about young children, pets or an aquarium.
Usually not. Most of the work is done with you in the house, and where a room does need to be clear it is for a short period we will tell you about on arrival.
Most ant control jobs in a Wetherill Park home take between one and two hours on site, depending on the size of the property and how much of it is affected.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. So if they turn up again within the warranty, ring us and we will attend.
We cover the whole of Wetherill Park, from the streets around Market Town Shopping Centre out to the suburb boundary and on into Prairiewood.
