Postcode 2756 covers Mulgrave and the streets immediately around it. At about 45.2 km north-west of the CBD it falls in the Hawkesbury & the Rural North-West, where we have vans out daily. We travel out to Mulgrave on planned runs through the Hawkesbury & the Rural North-West, so booking a day ahead gets you the best slot.
The Mulgrave addresses we attend cluster around Kingdom Estate Hawkesbury River Golf Club and Windsor Golf Course. Mulgrave station is another part of the suburb we are called to often.
We work under the Hawkesbury area here, and Windsor, Mcgraths Hill and South Windsor are all on the same route, which matters when ant problems are moving between adjoining properties. With acreage the problem is often outside the house entirely - sheds, woodpiles and outbuildings get inspected too.
The ant calls we take from Mulgrave are mostly larger blocks where the shed or the woodpile turns out to be the source. If yours is one of them, mention it when you ring 1300 313 373 - it changes what the technician brings.
The rest of 2756 is covered too, including the pockets around Windsor station and Howe Park.
The 2756 run is set the day before and you are given an arrival time. Where Windsor and Mcgraths Hill fall on the same round, we can usually bring the visit forward.
Where we find ants in a Mulgrave wall or frame, we look for the water first. Fix the leak and the timber dries; leave it and another colony will use the same cavity.
Ants lay a pheromone trail that other workers follow, which is why the line is so precise and why it reappears in exactly the same place after you wipe it. Cleaning a Mulgrave kitchen removes the smell for a few hours, not the colony that laid it.
In a dry spell ants move indoors looking for moisture, which is why a spotless Mulgrave kitchen still gets trails in January. The sink, the pet bowl and the shower recess are the attractions.
Each of these behaves differently, so the bait and the placement change too. Two photos come from our own jobs.

Small, shiny and black, and one of the most common kitchen ants in Sydney. It trails along skirting boards, window frames and power cables, and nests in wall voids, roof spaces and garden edges. It readily takes sweet baits.

Small brown ants that include a bigger-headed soldier caste. Sandy soil pushed up between pavers and along slab edges gives them away. Colonies run to many nests, and oil-based granular bait is what works.

Fast-moving, small and dull brown, in thick trails. Its nests are multi-queen and interconnected with neighbouring nests, so it spreads across properties - and repellent sprays accelerate exactly that.

Large ants that come out at night and nest in soil, hollow trees or damp timber. Unlike the overseas carpenter ants they seldom threaten structure - but a nest in a wall tells you there is moisture there.

Photo from an Elite job: an ant nest emerging from a mortar joint. Weep holes and cracked mortar lead straight into the wall cavity, which is where many black house ant colonies live.

From an Elite job - gel bait set down on a live trail. The ants feed and carry it back to the nest, which is why we ask you not to wipe or spray that trail afterwards.
Where ants appear usually tells us where the nest is and which species we are dealing with.
A trail in from the outside wall means the colony is in the cavity or the garden edge - the entry point is what we follow.
Fine sand pushed up through paving, driveway and slab joints is coastal brown ants underneath, almost without exception.
Electrical fittings and switches stay warm, which is why ants nest in them. Do not spray into them; let us know and we will handle it properly.
Winged ants swarming in the warmer months are reproductives on a mating flight. Indoors, that can indicate an established colony within the structure.
Trails around the shower, vanity or toilet often mean moisture in the wall or a colony drinking from a slow leak.
Bull and jumper ants live in lawn and garden-bed nests. The sting hurts, and for some people it brings on a serious allergic reaction.

Argentine ants and a number of house ants carry multiple queens. Spray them with a repellent and a queen plus a few hundred workers simply moves out and starts again nearby.
Repellent means detectable, and detectable means avoided. Non-repellent products let foragers walk through and transfer the active to the rest of the nest.
Ants will ignore bait that does not suit their current needs. Because they alternate between sugar and protein depending on the brood, we test preference rather than assume.
Give it days, not hours. Bait has to be carried through the colony, and spraying the trail afterwards destroys the couriers doing that work. Our blog covers budding in more detail.
Tracing first, then baits and non-repellent products that do the work after we leave.
First the species, then the trails - followed back to where they enter and to nests in the wall, under paving, at garden edges or in the roof space.
Small amounts of sweet, protein and oil-based bait show what the colony is feeding on right now.
Gel bait goes along trails, window frames and skirting where ants travel, out of reach of children and pets.
The perimeter gets a non-repellent product - foundation, weep holes, door frames, paths - which intercepts ants before they are inside.
For nests beneath pavers and in lawn edges - typically coastal brown ants - we use granular bait or treat the nest directly.
You receive the job summary in writing, guidance on what to leave alone, and 6 months of warranty on the general treatment.
The same bait does not suit every ant. This is how we choose.
| Species | Usually feeding on | Treatment approach | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black house ant | Sweet liquids and honeydew; protein while the colony is raising young | Gel bait placed on trails, non-repellent applied at weep holes and window frames | Wiping trails clean daily, so the colony simply forages on a different route |
| Coastal brown ant | Protein and oily foods | Oil-based granular bait over paving and lawn margins | Attacking a single visible nest while the rest of the colony's nests carry on |
| Argentine ant | Sugar for the most part, with periodic protein demand | Slow baits and a non-repellent applied along the property line | Using a repellent barrier spray - it divides the multi-queen colony |
| Sugar ants (Camponotus) | Insects and sweet foods, taken mainly at night | A night inspection of the trails, bait near the nest, and moisture in timber repaired | Daytime-only treatment, which misses them entirely |
| Bull ants and jumper ants | Insects and nectar outdoors | Direct nest treatment in lawns and garden beds | Digging into the nest by hand and getting stung |
| Time of year | What is happening | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Early spring (Sept to Oct) | Colonies become active and start on brood, which shifts them onto protein | Early indoor trails, and sand piles returning to the paving |
| Late spring to summer (Nov to Feb) | Peak foraging, mating flights after warm humid weather | Winged ants, heavy trails after storms and heatwaves |
| Autumn (Mar to May) | Colonies are at full size and stock up before cooler weather | Trails into pantries and pet food |
| Winter (Jun to Aug) | Quiet outside, but colonies in warm wall cavities keep working | Ants around the heater, the hot water unit and the kitchen |
Most failed ant treatments come down to what happens in the week after.
Ants in the cavity of a Mulgrave house will appear at power points, architraves and ceiling roses - anywhere the cavity opens into the room.
Nests under paving are sheltered, warm and almost impossible to flood out. They need bait placed at the active entrances, not a hose.
Honeydew is a sugar supply the colony will defend. We point out the plant on a Mulgrave job because otherwise the trail simply re-establishes.
Trails lead somewhere, so we follow them to the colony instead of spraying the sighting.
Sweet, protein or oil-based, picked to suit the ant and the point in the season.
Sprays that scatter a colony are avoided entirely in favour of non-repellents the ants deliver themselves.
If ants return within 6 months of a general treatment, we return at no charge.

Get a Free QuoteAnt treatment starts from $89. We quote on the property rather than the postcode, so a unit in Mulgrave and a large house are priced differently. The figure is fixed before any work starts. Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty.
We cover it on scheduled runs, so a day's notice gets you the best slot. Mulgrave is about 45.2 km north-west of the CBD in the Hawkesbury & the Rural North-West, and we give you a firm arrival time rather than an all-day window.
There is simply more harbourage on a block this size. Sheds, stacked timber, feed stores and open ground all hold ants populations long before the house is involved.
Larger blocks with outbuildings, so sheds, stables and stored timber are part of the inspection rather than an afterthought.
We do all of those. A good share of the Mulgrave jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
It is, applied properly. We put product into cracks, voids and stations rather than across open surfaces, and we will tell you what to stay off and for how long before we leave.
In the great majority of jobs, no. If one area needs to be left for an hour or two we say so before we start rather than after.
Most ant control jobs in a Mulgrave home take between one and two hours on site, depending on the size of the property and how much of it is affected.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. That is the point of the warranty - you do not pay twice for the same problem.
All of them. Mulgrave sits alongside Windsor, Mcgraths Hill, South Windsor and Oakville in our coverage, and they are serviced on the same schedule.
