Budding splits the colony
Where a species has many queens, a repellent spray causes budding rather than death. Part of the colony, queen included, moves elsewhere, and you have doubled the problem.
Ant Control in Woronora 2232 — local technicians, fixed prices and a written report. Ant treatment starts from $89.
Real, verified feedback from people we've helped — straight from Google.
Where Woronora sits, who covers it and what it costs.
We treat ants right across 2232. Woronora is roughly 23.5 km south-west of the city, which puts it well inside the Sutherland Shire run our technicians work. We run Woronora on a regular route, and same-day attendance is usually available.
A good share of our Woronora work is in the streets around Prince Edward Park and Sutherland station.
Under Sutherland Shire, we cover Woronora and Woronora Heights, Bangor and Sutherland alike. Backing onto bush means re-entry is the issue, so proofing and the perimeter do the real work here.
Woronora jobs tend to be properties where the fence line matters as much as the kitchen. Let us know which when you ring and we will plan the visit around it.
All of 2232 falls inside the area we service.
You get a confirmed time, not a window. We plan the 2232 run the day before, and if Woronora Heights or Bangor is on the same round there is often an earlier slot going.
People assume a trail means something was left out. Around Woronora it is just as likely to be the bathroom, because water is the scarcer resource in summer.
A colony's preference also shifts with the season. Spring brood-rearing wants protein; later in summer the same Woronora colony wants sugars.
A colony can occupy a garden bed, a paving slab and a wall cavity at once. That is why a single treated nest in Woronora changes very little on its own.
Each of these behaves differently, so the bait and the placement change too. Two photos come from our own jobs.

The small glossy black one you find in the kitchen. It runs along skirtings, window frames and cabling, nesting in wall cavities, roof voids and the edges of garden beds, and it takes sweet bait without much persuading.

Minute brown ants with larger-headed soldiers among them. Fine sand in paving joints, at slab edges and in grout is the tell. Because a colony holds many nests, oil-based granular baits are the right approach.

Small, dull brown and fast-moving in thick trails. Nests hold many queens and connect with neighbouring nests, so infestations can stretch across several properties. Repellent sprays are especially counter-productive with this species.

Large ants that come out at night and nest in soil, hollow trees or damp timber. Unlike the overseas carpenter ants they seldom threaten structure - but a nest in a wall tells you there is moisture there.

From an Elite job - a nest coming out of a mortar joint. Cracked mortar and weep holes open directly into the wall cavity, and that cavity is where a lot of black house ant colonies sit.

An Elite job photo: gel placed directly on an active trail. Leave it be - the ants feeding there are the ones delivering it to the colony.
Where ants appear usually tells us where the nest is and which species we are dealing with.
A trail in from the outside wall means the colony is in the cavity or the garden edge - the entry point is what we follow.
Fine sand pushed up through paving, driveway and slab joints is coastal brown ants underneath, almost without exception.
Ants nesting in switches and electrical fittings are drawn to the warmth. Do not spray into power points; tell us so we can treat safely.
Swarms of winged ants in spring and summer are mating flights. Seen indoors, they can mean a mature colony inside the building.
Trails around the shower, vanity or toilet often mean moisture in the wall or a colony drinking from a slow leak.
These are the bull ants and jumper ants nesting in lawns and beds - a painful sting, and a risk of serious allergic reaction for some.

Ants can detect a supermarket spray and will simply route around it. A professional non-repellent is undetectable, so they walk through it and carry the active home to the colony.
Ants will ignore bait that does not suit their current needs. Because they alternate between sugar and protein depending on the brood, we test preference rather than assume.
Give it days, not hours. Bait has to be carried through the colony, and spraying the trail afterwards destroys the couriers doing that work. Our blog covers budding in more detail.
Tracing first, then baits and non-repellent products that do the work after we leave.
First the species, then the trails - followed back to where they enter and to nests in the wall, under paving, at garden edges or in the roof space.
Small amounts of sweet, protein and oil-based bait show what the colony is feeding on right now.
Gel bait goes along trails, window frames and skirting where ants travel, out of reach of children and pets.
Outside, a non-repellent goes around the foundation, weep holes, door frames and paths, so ants coming in pick it up on the way.
Granular bait or direct treatment for coastal brown ant nests under pavers and in lawn edges.
A written summary, clear advice on what not to spray afterwards, and a 6-month warranty on the general treatment.
The same bait does not suit every ant. This is how we choose.
| Species | Usually feeding on | Treatment approach | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black house ant | Honeydew and sugary liquids, switching to protein when there is brood | Sweet gel on active trails and a non-repellent perimeter at frames and weep holes | Washing the trail down each day, which only relocates the foraging route |
| Coastal brown ant | Protein and oil | Oil-based granular bait applied to paving and lawn edges | Pouring insecticide into one pile and assuming that was the colony |
| Argentine ant | Sugars, with protein at times | Slow-acting baits plus non-repellent treatment across the property line | Repellent barrier sprays, which split multi-queen nests |
| Sugar ants (Camponotus) | Sweet foods and insects, active after dark | Night trail inspection, baiting near the nest, and dealing with damp timber | Inspecting in daylight when the colony is not foraging |
| Bull ants and jumper ants | Insects and nectar outdoors | Direct nest treatment in lawns and garden beds | Digging into the nest by hand and getting stung |
| Time of year | What is happening | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Early spring (Sept to Oct) | Colonies become active and start on brood, which shifts them onto protein | Early indoor trails, and sand piles returning to the paving |
| Late spring to summer (Nov to Feb) | The busiest foraging period, with mating flights after warm humid weather | Winged ants on the wing, and thick trails after a storm or a hot spell |
| Autumn (Mar to May) | Colonies are at full size and stock up before cooler weather | Trails into pantries and pet food |
| Winter (Jun to Aug) | Outdoor activity slows, but nests in heated walls keep going | Ants around heaters, hot water units and kitchens |
Most failed ant treatments come down to what happens in the week after.
Fine soil pushed up along paving joints, path edges and garden edging is excavation - there is a nest directly beneath. Around Woronora that is coastal brown ants more often than not.
Heavy rain floods shallow nests, and the colony moves to the nearest dry cavity - which is usually a wall, a subfloor or under a slab. A sudden indoor trail in Woronora after a storm is almost always this.
Activity climbs from early spring as colonies start brood-rearing, peaks through the hot months and tails off in autumn. Treating in early spring around Woronora gets ahead of it rather than chasing it.
Trails lead somewhere, so we follow them to the colony instead of spraying the sighting.
The bait is chosen for the species and the time of year - sweet, protein or oil-based.
Non-repellent products only - they are taken back to the nest rather than scattering it.
General ant treatments are covered. If ants come back within 6 months, so do we.

Backing onto bush means constant pressure from outside. ants are already established in the reserve, and the house is simply the next thing they reach.
Mostly detached housing backing onto reserve. Proofing and the perimeter are what actually hold here.
We do. A lot of our Woronora work is rentals and strata, so the report, the products used and the areas treated are all recorded in writing for whoever needs them.
Yes. The products are registered for this use and applied at label rates, and placement keeps them away from where children and animals go. Let us know at booking about pets, fish tanks or anyone with asthma and we will plan the visit around it.
Normally you can stay. Some treatments mean keeping out of a particular room briefly, and we will flag that when we arrive so you can plan around it.
Typically one to two hours on site. What extends it is size, access and how far the problem has gone, all of which are accounted for in the quote.
Every general treatment carries a 6-month warranty. So if they turn up again within the warranty, ring us and we will attend.
