Repairing the damage
Hold off on repairs until we confirm the colony is no longer active. Replacing timber too early can remove the bait termites were feeding on. A builder should assess structural members like bearers, studs and roof timbers.
Termite Control in Potts Point 2011 — local technicians, fixed prices and a written report. Termite treatment starts from $179 and a full timber pest inspection from $159.

What we cover in Potts Point, and how quickly we can get there.
Potts Point is part of the Sydney CBD & Inner City, 1.4 km or so east of the GPO, and 2011 is a postcode we know well. Our technicians are through Potts Point most days, so same-day attendance is usually available.
Our Potts Point work takes in the streets by Westfield Sydney and Westfield 111 Castlereagh, through to Kings Cross station at the other end.
Our runs through Potts Point also take in Woolloomooloo, Elizabeth Bay and Rushcutters Bay. In a tower the population is usually shared. We treat your unit and tell you plainly if the source is common property, because that is what the building has to act on.
The termite calls we take from Potts Point are mostly flats where the neighbouring lot is the actual source. If yours is one of them, mention it when you ring 1300 313 373 - it changes what the technician brings.
Our Potts Point runs also take in St James station and the area near Beare Park, so the whole postcode is served.
You get a confirmed time, not a window. We plan the 2011 run the day before, and if Woolloomooloo or Elizabeth Bay is on the same round there is often an earlier slot going.
No standard home policy in NSW covers termite damage. That is the single fact that changes how Potts Point owners think about an annual inspection - there is no safety net behind it, so the inspection is the safety net.
Anything that puts soil or timber against the structure is a bridge - planter boxes, sleeper walls, firewood stacked on the ground. Clearing those does more for a Potts Point home than most products.
Blistered or rippled paint over a flat surface is worth a second look. In Potts Point homes that is frequently workings pushing the paint film up from behind.
Photos from our own Sydney termite jobs. Most properties need one primary method, and some need two working together.

We install stations in the soil around the perimeter. They hold timber first; when termites start feeding on it we replace that with bait, and they take it home to the nest.

Scheduled visits to inspect feeding and replace consumed bait. A baiting program only works if it is kept topped up, which is why the checks are part of it.

Where termites are working inside a wall or door frame, bait can be fixed directly over the active workings so the colony starts feeding straight away.

Termiticide applied into a trench along the footings, or injected through drilled holes in paths and slabs, creating a treated zone in the soil around the building.

Where the floor is suspended we treat the soil around each pier and along the internal walls - the subfloor is where hidden activity usually starts.

We mark up where the timber has gone so a builder can assess structural work - scheduled after, not before, the colony is confirmed eliminated.
What you do in the first day or two affects how quickly the colony can be eliminated.
Surface sprays and insect bombs kill the workers in sight and make the rest abandon that feeding site, leaving nothing for bait to work on.
Leave the mud tubing and the damaged timber as you found it. Once broken open it dries out and termites abandon it.
Photograph mud tubes, damaged timber or winged insects and note where you saw them. It helps us plan the visit.
Have a look for a dripping tap, a hot water overflow or an air conditioner drain near where you found them. Damp soil is an attractant and has to be dealt with as well.
Subterranean termites feed continuously, so waiting costs timber. Same-day and next-day inspections are available right across Sydney.
In a unit or townhouse, activity in one lot often involves common property, so let the strata manager know early.

Both are recognised approaches for existing buildings under AS 3660.2. The right choice depends on your property.
| Consideration | Baiting system | Chemical soil barrier | Combination |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Elimination of the colony feeding on the structure | A treated band of soil that affects termites travelling through it | Both: the active colony goes, and new ones are deterred |
| Installation | In-ground stations around the perimeter, with bait fixed to any live workings | A trench along the footings, plus drilling and injection where there is paving or slab | Baiting to start, and the soil work once the colony has gone |
| Disruption to the property | Very little - no paths drilled, no garden beds dug up | Small holes through paving, sealed afterwards, and trenching along garden beds | Shared out over several staged visits |
| Maintenance | Scheduled checks of each station, which also serve as monitoring | Longevity depends on the label and the site, and it can be renewed | Ongoing station checks run in parallel with the barrier |
| Best suited to | Live activity, properties with a lot of paving, or where chemical use must be kept down | Houses with decent access to open soil along the footings | Serious activity, properties attacked before, or high-risk blocks near bush |

Termite treatment is a program over several visits, not a one-off spray.
We confirm which termite it is and how far it has gone, following the tubing and checking roof void, subfloor and garden for the nest.
You receive a fixed quote that names the method, the areas, the products and the return visits required.
The active colony is treated either by baiting - directly on the workings or via in-ground stations - or by applying termiticide to the soil on their route.
Follow-up visits continue until activity has stopped, checking and topping up bait each time. Colony size and season set the timeline.
Once it is dead we talk about keeping the next one out - soil barrier, ongoing station checks, or both.
The job finishes with a written record of products and areas, and a recommended next inspection date.
Treatment starts from $179. Your fixed quote comes after we've seen the activity.
| Factor | Why it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Extent of the attack | Contained activity in a single frame costs far less than termites spread across the subfloor and wall framing |
| The approach taken | Bait above ground, stations in the ground and a complete soil barrier are not comparable on product or labour |
| How big and how reachable | Time goes up with perimeter length, and again with low subfloor clearance or narrow side access |
| Paved areas | Any path, patio or garage slab needing drilling and injection adds time over open soil |
| Number of follow-ups | Return visits carry on until the colony is gone - larger colonies take more of them |
| What sort of property | A strata block, a commercial site or a house with an extension or granny flat is quoted individually |
For typical scenarios, read how much termite treatment costs in Sydney. Warranty terms for termite work are confirmed in writing with your quote.
Hold off on repairs until we confirm the colony is no longer active. Replacing timber too early can remove the bait termites were feeding on. A builder should assess structural members like bearers, studs and roof timbers.
You will have in-ground stations sitting flush with locking lids. Keep them clear of mulch and concrete, leave them in place, and call before landscaping so we can relocate them.
Treated soil works best left undisturbed. New garden beds, pavers or a deck against the house can break the treated zone, so call us before those works.
Inspections at least every 12 months is the AS 3660.2 recommendation, with shorter intervals in high-risk areas. Post-treatment, that is what finds the next colony while it is small.
Treatment removes the colony. These property conditions attract the next one, and most are cheap to fix.
Coptotermes is the species that does most of the structural damage in Sydney, and it can nest inside a tree or a wall cavity as well as in soil. Identifying what is in the workings decides the Potts Point treatment.
Termites will nest inside a living tree. If there is a mature gum close to a Potts Point house, that is worth including in the inspection rather than assuming the risk is only in the soil.
Colonies forage over a wide area underground - tens of metres - so a stump, a timber retaining wall or an untreated deck on the adjoining block feeds a colony that can reach your Potts Point house.
NSW licence 5122967. Work on existing buildings is planned against AS 3660.2.
Source first, method second. Spraying the termites in front of you leaves the colony untouched.
Products, areas and follow-ups all recorded, so you have the paperwork for your file, your insurer or a sale.
The program includes its own follow-ups, so baiting is never left part-done.

Get a Free QuoteTermite treatment starts from $179 and a full timber pest inspection from $159. We quote on the property rather than the postcode, so a unit in Potts Point and a large house are priced differently. The figure is fixed before any work starts. Treatments carry a 6-month warranty and we re-inspect annually.
Same-day attendance is usually available. Potts Point sits roughly 1.4 km east of the CBD, inside our Sydney CBD & Inner City run, so we book a time and keep to it.
Density is the whole answer. Shared walls, shared risers and shared bins mean termites move between lots freely, which is why single-unit treatments here often do not hold.
Apartments throughout, which means treating your lot and scoping the building where the pattern points at common property.
We do all of those. A good share of the Potts Point jobs we run are tenanted or strata properties, so the written record comes as standard.
It is, applied properly. We put product into cracks, voids and stations rather than across open surfaces, and we will tell you what to stay off and for how long before we leave.
Usually not. Most termite control work is done with you there, and anything that needs the room vacated is for a short period we will tell you about beforehand.
Most termite control jobs in a Potts Point home take between one and two hours on site, depending on the size of the property and how much of it is affected.
Treatments carry a 6-month warranty and we re-inspect annually. That is the point of the warranty - you do not pay twice for the same problem.
We do. Potts Point and Woolloomooloo, Elizabeth Bay, Rushcutters Bay and Darlinghurst are all on the same route, which helps if you own more than one property in the area.
